"MJ Picks Bean over Bron (swipe)"

MJ: Give me Kobe over LeBron

Michael Jordan likes the bling of Kobe Bryant better than the King.

Michael Jordan said in an interview with NBA TV that, if given a choice, he would take Kobe Bryant over LeBron James.

Five beats one every time I look at it. And not that (James) won't get five. He may get more than that, but five is bigger than one.

” -- Michael Jordan, on why he would take Kobe Bryant over LeBron James.
Widely considered the greatest player of all-time, Jordan said it would be a tough choice between Bryant and James. However, Bryant's five titles with the Los Angeles Lakers compared to just one for James with the Miami Heat, would be his deciding factor.

"Five beats one every time I look at it," Jordan said. "And not that (James) won't get five. He may get more than that, but five is bigger than one."

Of course, Bryant has been around a lot longer than James to rack up his titles. Bryant is in his 17th season while James is in his 10th.

James, in the midst of a record run where he has put together at least 30 points and 60 percent shooting in six straight games, was not too worried about Jordan's choice.

"It doesn't matter to me," James said at the Heat's shootaround in preparation for Thursday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. "If you take Kobe one and I go second, it doesn't matter. I don't get too involved in what guys say about me or if you take Kobe or if you take LeBron. As long as I'm on the floor and I make plays for my teammates, I don't do what I do for other people's approval."

Jordan, who turns 50 years old on Sunday, won six championships with the Chicago Bulls and was named NBA MVP five times over his celebrated career.

If he doesn't squash it now people will keep asking him if he thinks Bron is better than he is. That will most certainly piss him off. As evidenced by his HOF speech he's got too much anger already, he doesn't need any more.

he's right - you can't argue with 5-1.
But if you ask people who they'd rather
draft at the beginning of their careers,
Kobe or Lebron -- I think a lot of people
would select Lebron.

If James had been drafted by a Rockefeller luxury franchise
like L.A. or NY - he'd have more rings by now,
simply because he'd actually have played more
years surrounded by championship-caliber talent.

For example, if James had been drafted by LA
and had the opportunity to play with Shaq from years
1-7, you think he'd honestly not have more rings right now?

Likely, if Kobe had been selected by Cleveland and only
surrounded by Larry Hughes, Mo Williams, and Anderson
Verrajo, you think he'd have 5 rings right now?

So if the question is: who is more accomplished?
It's def Kobe.

If the question is who is the better/more valuable player. That's
a diff. question.

Depends if Dwight's back was actually healthy, they didn't overreact and fire the coach, and suffer one injury after another. If those things don't happen, well then you're correct.

^^^Jordan + Kareem + Worthy + Scott et al or Jordan + DJ + McHale + Chief et al?

Bird or Magic in Chicago? Both them fools got NO rings in the 80's.

>For example, if James had been drafted by LA
>and had the opportunity to play with Shaq from years
>1-7, you think he'd honestly not have more rings right now?
>

Right, Right...and some people still think Magic is greater than MJ but MJ did more with less IMO.

See the thing is...LeBron is on the Jordan trajectory of accomplishment. Difference is, he got the individual accomplishment down pat but failed twice at the team accomplishment before last season. If bron was 3-0 in the finals right now or had won back to back last season I think MJ's answer is different. If he was 3-0 right now...he'd be in the GOAT discussion and on path to replace Mike.

As he isn't, he'll prolly need 2 more rings to enter the discussion without the current 'brush off' that the comparison gets and 3-5 more(possible but not plausible) before he retires to get that GOAT nod.

It's not all about rings but a LOT of what Bron is doing MJ has already done individually. Bron might be better in some aspects of the game but Jordan was better than Bron at some aspects too. That's why it's hard to annoint LBJ so soon. These reg season streaks are nice, his ability to control a game from multiple angles is nice, yeah, yeah, he's a marvel but his resume still falls short.

For every impressive feat LBJ has, MJ has an equally impressive one.

AND he has the awards and titles to add.

If watched both in their primes, you'd know that they are potent in their own ways and it's hard to pinpoint who's gifts you'd want if you had to pick. MJ was a cold bloodly efficient scoring machine, defensive staple and wouldn't let anyone best him without payback. Bron is a physically gifted basketball wizard that can mangle a team with all aspects of the game.

Losing to a guy who drops 39/12/11/2/2 on 57% shooting

or

Losing to a guy who drops 55/8/7/4/1 on 54% shooting

there's no right choice.

At this point there's only two things that Bron falls short on:
1) Clutch performances - he needs more in his lexicon to build the legend further along to MJ's level
2) More rings/accolaids - he'll be at a 'slight' disadvantage as no matter how much he wins, he lost twice and MJ never lost a title matchup but it won't matter much if he gets 4,5,6 rings. The body of work will speak.

Personally, I'm just looking foward to watching Bron develop.

So LeBron is penalized for advancing further into the playoffs than Jordan did at the same age because he didn't win? To be the GOAT he would have to go out and lose in first round when he was 22 Like Mike. Carrying your team to the finals at 22 is irrelevant in the discussion because failed to win. 22 year-old Jordan never would have lost in the finals, if only he could have got to the finals...

the first thing he says is the obvious, dominance wise, at this stage of the game, it's LeBron.

if you want the championships over their career, it's Kobe.

there's really no argument on what he actually said

bron took a busted cavs team to the finals, kobe can't do much with better parts.

kobe is a great player, however having shaq and phil jackson didn't hurt.

jordan still hatin on bron for teaming up with d wade, nobody is paying jordan any mind on this.

we ain't seen nothing like bron before and jordan's crazy behind deep down wants to put a jersey on and go against him badly.

They were trained since they were young to ONLY think in terms of winning.

That's why rings are the only measure in their minds. That's why you have fucking nut jobs saying Eli is better than Peyton.

those bulls teams wouldnt have won shit in the 60s, are you kidding me? jordan would have been oscar robertson. i am sure bill cartwright and luc longley could have banged with wilt, russell, reed, thurmond, et al while guys like john paxson and steve kerr d'ed up jerry west, clyde frazier, the big o, hal greer and a murderer's row of dominant guards on boston, right?
