Multiple people saying the chant was "Past your bedtime". and I'm a UNC fan.
This isn't directed at you, but I'm kind of over the whole hating your rival thing. Sure I still don't like Duke, but I'm not going to invest energy into hating them. It comes across as pathetic to me. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy Duke's loss to Lehigh though.
It's also just sad and silly to see every fan base talk about how every other fan base is stupid/classless/etc. (In reference to the OP, you had an actual example to cite so I'm not talking shit about you, I just went on a tangent).

Pretty much every sports blog plus a few bigger outlets (USA Today among them) have all run with "The Cameron Crazies chanted about a kid's dead grandmother! Aren't the Cameron Crazies awful?"
Since, you know, that makes a better story than "a few kids at a wealthy Republican school turn out to be douchebags! Details at 11!"
They were chanting "Past Your Bedtime." They write onto a white board what they should chant when NC State players are shooting free throws near their side. Not to mention they have the chants on a "Chant Cheat Sheet" (which is unspeakably lame but true). "Past your bedtime" is the Tyler Lewis chant. Because he looks like a baby.
Is that incredibly lame? Yes. But its lameness is the only offensive thing about this.
If anyone chanted "How's Your Grandma?" in there, which I don't necessarily put it past every single student to do, then it's *maybe* a small section of kids. Because Duke does, strangely, have plenty of classless douchebags.
But the official chant for Lewis is "past your bedtime." And that's what the Crazies are yelling here. They put it on the white board and on the scoreboard monitor.
EDIT: Nolan Evans, who was on press row at the game, verified that the Crazies didn't chant that, as they were yelling "Past Your Bedtime," but a small handful of kids next to him yelled "How's Your Grandma." Even Alex Kennedy has since rowed way back on his initial tweet since, as was obvious to anyone at the game, the Crazies did not manufacture a chant about a grandmother's death, lol. As if the collective body of Duke students would be dumb enough.

It's far more believable that the person in charge of deciding which chant to do would make up a brand new chant on the spot, one about a dead grandmother, then the cameramen would project that onto the scoreboard, and an entire stadium would decide in great glee to mock a man's dead grandmother.
There's no way my story about a few douchebags deciding independently to be assholes can possibly be true!

That's why you won't see me reply to everyone who enters this post, reads the story blindly, posts "lulz Duke is awful," and moves along with their day. Duke is hated. This much I know.
I just thought I'd try to appeal to some of the more logical thinking posters before this post inevitably fills up with "HOW DARE THEY?" indignance.

They didn't blame the whole student body, but according to them it was definitely said, and they were in the vicinity where it was chanted. It was a couple of NC State fans that verified it, but one Duke fan spoke up too.

While what you said isn't wholly inaccurate, the fraternity and sorority sections of Duke-- roughly 40% of the student population-- are predominantly steeped in Southern traditions and affectations. And they're nearly exclusively the ones who get the university in trouble.

In fairness, you need to be pretty close to have an opinion about Duke's student body. Their alumni are notoriously tight-lipped about their experience there. Going to school elsewhere in the southeast probably gave you a good perspective, because it's not like a Duke graduate is just going to walk up to you and offer you some unsolicited chitchat about their basketball team or something.
