"This Dwight-Kobe shit is now officially out of hand."
Thu Feb-07-13 01:52 PM by Frank Longo

Not to add to the dogpile of Negative Nancy Laker posts, but Dwight Howard, if he hadn't been to date, is now officially the most pathetic figure in sports. It's a full-blown public feud at this point, and I don't see how anyone can be on Dwight's side on this shit.

I'm watching this interview on ESPN, where he's asked about Kobe's comment from the below article... and his face is so goddamn pouty and self-pitying, dropping quips like "That's his opinion." and "He's not a doctor." and "I'm the only one looking out for my career."

At this point, he'd be better off refusing interviews and taking fines from the league. Who in the world wants to play with this sad-sack selfish bum at this point?

Hall-of-fame talent, D-league personality. What a waste.

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/story/_/id/8924249/kobe-bryant-challenges-dwight-howard-return-shoulder-injury-play-pain

Kobe Bryant again has urged Dwight Howard to play through some pain while claiming that the Los Angeles Lakers' center "worries too much" about media and fan criticism.

Howard has missed the past three games because of a torn labrum in his shoulder, aggravating an injury he initially suffered earlier this season.

Despite winning the three games Howard has missed, the Lakers (23-26) are 10th in the Western Conference playoff race. They also will be without star forward Pau Gasol, who has a tear in the plantar fascia of his right foot, an MRI revealed Wednesday. The Lakers fear Gasol could be sidelined four to six weeks, a source told ESPNLosAngeles.com.

"We don't have time for (Howard's shoulder) to heal," Bryant said Wednesday in an exclusive interview with ESPNBoston.com's Jackie MacMullan. "We need some urgency."

The interview with MacMullan came one day after Bryant publicly challenged Howard, stating that playing through an injury is "something that you have to balance out and manage."

Bryant also asserted that Howard is preoccupied with how he is perceived by fans and media.

"Dwight worries too much about what people think," Bryant told MacMullan. "I told him, 'You can't worry about that. It's holding you back.' He says, 'OK, OK, OK,' but it's always hovering around him. “

"He just wants people to like him. He doesn't want to let anyone down, and that gets him away from what he should be doing."

Bryant also speculated that Howard, in his first season with Los Angeles, may not be accustomed to the Lakers' standards.

"(Howard) has never been in a position where someone is driving him as hard as I am, as hard as this organization is," Bryant told MacMullan. "It's win a championship or everything is a complete failure. That's just how (the Lakers) do it. And that's foreign to him.

"When you think about it, there aren't many organizations that look at it that way. There are only two that can really honestly say that's what they live by -- Los Angeles and Boston."

Howard preached patience in a recent interview with ESPN's Stephen A. Smith, pointing to the fact that Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal needed three years before winning a championship with the Lakers.

But the 34-year-old Bryant, who is averaging 27.6 points per game in his 17th NBA season, is approaching this season with more desperation.

"We don't have three years," Kobe said. "We've got this year."

Howard is listed as day to day, and his status is uncertain for Thursday's game against the Boston Celtics.

The Lakers are hopeful Gasol's injury will prompt Howard to return "sooner than later," a team source told ESPNLosAngeles.com.

like, dwight is a bitch, but not here. money first, everything else later. he already took a chance with his money by coming back too early from the back.

put another way, if kobe wants dwight to play through an injury in a contract year, kobe should give dwight 100 million dollars.

Say what you will about Kobe, but he knows how to work the cameras and how to flame up the media. He's smart, confident, one might say conniving.

Dwight is so fucking clueless about how the media works, yet is so desperately for players and fan and the media to love him, that he subjects himself to this embarrassment time and time again. He thinks by pouting on my TV that he'll endear himself to the public, when the public and the media love Kobe far more than Dwight and always will.

If he was worrying foremost about money and having fun, he shoulda gone to Brooklyn in the first place. He knew who Kobe was before he arrived.

but he never has been & never will be.

Taking that shit to Jackie MacMullen as if that helps his team's situation in the short or long-term was asinine but since he's a well-established sociopath with the people-skills of Ty Cobb, it's hardly surprising.

Note: this does not absolve Dwight of being a wishy-washy pussy, just saying any comments he's made here (I didn't read or listen) are a byproduct of Kobe's fuckup.

Kobe is tied to being a Laker for the long term and I'm guessing Dwight isn't, this is the main difference:

>"We don't have three years," Kobe said. "We've got this
>year."

Kobester is old and knows he time is limited; Dwight is looking at the long term and isn't as pressed as Kobe is in the immediate to solidify his Laker legacy.

I'm no doctor and I don't know enough about the situation with Dwight's injuries, but I side with Dwight in this instance based on that fact he's injured his shoulder about two or three times already. I suppose there are those that will think he's faking things and will view him in a negative light regardless.

It's a last-ditch effort to get the team together for a playoff run, but what other option is there? Babying Dwight and then watching him walk away? Things can't get much worse, so either he responds to this and they're great again or he doesn't and things continue to suck. maybe this even sets the wheels in motion for a trade. that would be a moderate W for them at this point, might even set up next year's team pretty nicely.

because he's got a ham-fisted & myopically mutated concept of 'leadership' that he stays pushing which serves no agenda but his own.

If Dwight plays well it ain't gonna be based off Kobe dogging him out & questioning his heart/toughness to Jackie MacMullen while continuing to gloss himself as a tough-talking/hyper-competitive 'winner' in the eyes of the press & the public.

He's a tough guy who played through the pain, even if it shortens his career? During a season where his team is still a long shot to even make the play-offs?

Look, I think Dwight's a herb too, but challenging any player's "manhood" over playing through injury is always dumb.

If anything, this is a public relations win for Kobe: "I play hurt all the time, because I want to bring this organization titles." It makes him the martyr and it throws a public cloud of suspicion over how hurt Dwight really is.

This doesn't make much sense to me since Dwight is still coming back from his back surgery and has already injured his shoulder two times before this current stretch of him not playing.

88. "We live in a society where fans expect players to play hurt."
In response to Reply # 51

It may be assholish, it may be unfair, but it's the truth. Fans expect players to be gladiators-- we canonize the players who make miraculous plays while sick/injured.

So to the general public, no, I don't think Dwight earned any good will this season simply because he came back early and has been playing in pain. I think if Dwight had avoided all the drama in his departure from Orlando, then the public would be more forgiving and would be grateful that he's giving his all out there every chance he can.

But instead, it looks like the Side B of the exact same record. Sitting out of games, pouting in interviews, claiming he wants to be there when cameras capture the lie so clearly on his face. This is all familiar.

He might be more hurt this time. He might be a fucking hero for playing as hurt as he is. Kobe Bryant may be the biggest asshole of all time.

But thanks to the way Dwight left Orlando, and thanks to the way we worship the warrior who goes to war even when hurt, he's not going to win this PR battle between him and Kobe. Not unless he either stops pouting or simply stops talking to the media about it altogether.

This^^^^ is not true at this point...Right now, Kobe is catching hell from level headed Laker fans who understand that dude is fucking up the Lakers' future...

And the media has been on his ass for his latest comments because they see it as dude placing Howard under the bus...

Again, if you want to judge Howard for his past actions, that's on you...

But what's going on now has nothing to do with any of that shit...Especially when Howard came back four months early to help his team out...

Dude can barely lift his arm, his back is still fucked up AND in the interview he said his legs are starting to tingle.
All that and he STILL leads the league in rebounds and is 5th in blocks

I side with D12 on this...let him come back when he's ready.

Dwight about to get paid, so he needs to heal.

Fuck fighting and risking injury to try and make a 8th seed when he knows he is gone in the offseason.

You want to win and be a hero nigga, be a hero now...

Kobe got the nerve to say another person wants to be loved in the media more than he does with his Kobe system and legacy slanted quotes about himself and etc.

Dwight gone, and Kobe helped run him off, now he trying to throw Dwight under the bus...

...look how well playing through injury worked out for the previous Lakers center...

Dwight is smart to sit and protect his value, fuck LA and that mess of a team.

Dr. Klapper on Max and marcellus yesterday 'I understand why Dwight hasn't been able to come back and it's more to do with his back injury. This isn't like 1 injury + 1 injury = 2. It's like 1+1= 50'

When you already have a serious structural injury you are recovering from, another major injury exacerbates everything exponentially.

In response to Reply # 19

"Look, multiple doctors have told me going into games in my state would be extremely detrimental for my health and my long term career. I'd like to be a Laker for the future, and while I understand Kobe's passion for winning, and I share that passion down to my core, I can't help the Lakers if I have to sit out another season or two seasons due to making my current injury worse. It's killing me to sit out, but I can't help this franchise win championships now and into the future if I'm hobbled. I apologize to the fans for this awful set of bad luck, and I'm doing everything I can to come back as soon as medically possible to help the Lakers win the championship that their fans deserve, blah blah blah."

Instead, it's short curt one-liners with a pout. "It is what is is." "Kobe's not a doctor." "I have to think about me."

Even if his thought process is right (look out for one's longterm health), he is beyond horrible at playing the media and is even worse at selling to the franchise's fans that he wants to be there.

I said he needs to shut the fuck up and stop making himself look even worse than he looked in Orlando.

The perception of him not wanting to be there is entirely Dwight's fault. It doesn't have anything to do with Dwight's injury and has everything to do with Dwight refusing to shut the fuck up and stop acting like a self-pitying crybaby every time someone shoves a mic in his face.

First, what he did in Orlando>>>>>>>>>worse than what he's doing here. People are taking the history of what he did in Orlando and applying it here, which isn't right. Dude is probably significantly injured here.

>The perception of him not wanting to be there is entirely

Again, no one said Dwight is especially media saavy. But he's not necessarily wrong for how he's handling this and Kobe is very definitely in the wrong for how he's handling it now.

The response he gave is similar to what I expected based on everything I know about him and everything he has endured this season.

Kobe, as the alleged leader of this team, should know that, instead of doing this childish media shit. You can't treat every one on the team w the same asshole behavior. Different people need to be pushed different ways and it's been clear for years that Dwight doesn't respond to negativity well...yet Kobe continues to pour it on like you can suddenly just change the other person. You can't, you gotta work with them. Dude will never get it and it's the reason why Phil + D Fish were so important...they covered his absolute personal level deficiencies.

I respect YOU even more for that statement. lol

And once the athlete that says that finishes, if he's smart, he'd explain the compound detriment of the injury to his shoulder with his back and THEN explain he came back early from MAJOR back surgery to help.

That'd make this media "W" for Kobe an "L" because people would say, Kobe is going to hard cuz he old and desperate.

Would it REALLY be a bad thing for LA to miss the playoffs, get a high draft pick (from what I'm reading, if they land in the top 14, they keep their pick this yr) get some youth for the future to pair with Dwight when Kobe is gone, let Dwight and Pau heal?

-Re-up Dwight in the offseason (he'd be gracious for the patience if Kobe would shut the fuck up)
-Try to sign Pau for a yr or two or work on a S&T to net an asset
-Lock up Earl Clark

Come back next yr with a full training camp with the whole team and coach.

Get younger (Earl, top 13 draft pick, possible youth infusion for Pau trade), get healthy and make Kobe and Nash's last season Epic while securing their future.

Lakers management should tell Kobe to shut the hell up and that he has ONE last year to get it done if this one doesn't work. Injuries are injuries but his brashness to the situation might cost LA their next building block.

And I think Dwight's a bitch but he's obviously not Dwight the basketball player we're use to seeing.

Tell Kobe to stfu, re-sign Dwight, get the entire team back to 100% (Nash, J Hill, Dwight, Pau), resign Earl, utilize Pau's expiring contract to trade for youth, have a full camp and then have a fresh start for Kobe and Nash's last run.

Not to mention all the Cap room from Kobe, nash, MWP and possibly Pau's(unless they lock up a chunk of young assets via trade for him) deals being off the books.

Make a run at Kyrie or Bron or any of the young soon to be expiring stars out there.

MWP, Pau, and Kobe come off the books after next season. Nash has a very reasonable 10 million option for 2014-15. Other than Dwight (if he re-signs obviously) and Nash (and possibly Earl + any long-term youth you trade Pau for), no one else has a contract.

The whole damn thing hinges on Dwight re-signing. Kupchak and Buss hopefully have a sit down with Kobe to tell him to stfu and play.

Fuck Kobe.

Sit out. Smile. And be happy like you have been Dwight.

They ain't passing to you.

They want you to be a Rebounding/Shot Blocker to watch their back.

Bounce on their ass.

I wouldn't be mad, if Dwight held a press conference and told everyone to "Get Off My Dick" then kick over the podium.

FOH with this bullshit veiled in, "I'm trying to motivate him and make him better."

Nah dude, you trying to feed off of his talent to promote YOUR OWN LEGACY. You pointy nose vulture ass nigga probably eat baby fetuses too.

This has nothing to do with Dwight's actual health and everything to do with how badly he hurts himself every time he steps in front of a microphone.

No...but you continue to call him a bitch for not stooping to Kobe's asshole level...

We get it...Howard is an easy target...But Kobe is ALL in the wrong here...

There's no in between on this one...He's fucking up the Lakers' ability to re-tain Howard...And he's being that same ol' psycho which is not cute when you are an aging star and your team is barely on pace to make the playoffs...

Fuck all this pile-on shit...Nobody ever said Howard was the mentally toughest dude in the room...But this shit gotta stop...

U wanna call him out for his bitch-ass behavior in Orlando...I get that...U wanna laugh at him for backing down when asked about his "beef" with Kobe, by Kobe? Hey, I get that too...

But this? FOH...

This dude came back early from a injury for the good of the team...It's obvious that dude is 75 percent out there...And yet he rushed his rehab to comeback...

Now he has the biggest prick in sports history questioning his manhood?

And when he says Kobe ain't no doctor (this btw ain't no punk move...He was speaking truth, especially when he noted no one would give a fuck about him if he got injured) that's being a bitch?

Here's the straight dope...Howard is worried about his future worth...Not playing next to a future hall of famer who also happens to be one of the worst teammates in the history of the NBA...

Who cares if Kobe would cut off his left arm to win...What does that have to do with Howard's career...

Kobe is fucking up the Lakers'future by coming out of pocket on a PUBLIC tip...Like dog...you ain't getting any younger, even if you are killing niggas today...Instead, he's basically driving Howard to the airport out of LA...

Not smart, Kobe...But it's all about that ego....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

That said, I don't think this is AS bad as you're making it out to be...and he swears that he and Dwight like each other (they don't), but it's not the smartest thing to say about a guy you want staying here long term.

I'm sorry Ryan...fuck this dude...

If I was a Lakers fan I would be pissed...Kobe has effectively chased Howard out of town...And for what? Because Howard won't destroy his shoulder to get beat by OKC as a 8th seed?...

When Kobe pulls this kind of move, it's not him embracing his inner villain....It's embracing his inner stupidity...

It's not a given that these comments, or Kobe in particular, is the thing that's chasing him away. It's how bad this team is and how much they don't seem to like each other. It's Mike D'Antoni. It's a LOT of things. Kobe's assholishness is just part of that.

If Dwight leaves, it's not JUST on Kobe, but Kobe has certainly played a part in it.

I think Kobe is leading how he thinks he should and he's not just calling people out to be a dick. He's certainly done that before. Again - THIS ISNT HELPING. I think it's a stupid thing to say, just like the "big boy pants" comment was (and I said it in that thread too). He's not good with people, obviously. He'll never be a coach because he thinks people should be like him, and nearly nobody is.

Look, again - this is a stupid thing to say. Something that simply won't help the situation and can only hurt. But at least he's not trying to play that role that isn't him anymore.

It's got nothing to do with D'Antoni being a horrible coach?
It's got nothing to do with zero depth or draft picks?
It's got nothing to do with other destinations having good coaches and/or young talent and/or draft picks and/or tax breaks?
It's got nothing to do with the front office being a total mess?

It's got nothing to do with any of those things...it's all on Kobe?

Okay.

Nothing Troll about it....D'Antoni will be fired so fast this off-season, it won't even be funny...

So he's not even in the convo in terms of Howard's future...He's expendable...

The person that is not expendable is Howard...

Kobe is the one publicaly questioning the man's toughness...He's being his same prickly self...

Right now, it's all about Kobe's actions towards Howard...The Lakers will have the dough to spend on Howard...A HUGE contract to Howard cures all this talk about front office fuck-ups and tax issues...

But as long as Kobe continues to throw teammates under the bus, who wants to put up with that psycho?

So yeah...Kobe will get the blame....99.9 percent of it...And it will be well deserved...

It's bullshit, but they are.

Jim Buss is a hardheaded idiot who wants "his guy" to succeed. They're spending what, $8+ mil between Mike Brown and Mike D'Antoni next year? A coach they'd go after would cost at least $4 mil/year...then you're basically paying Phil. I don't see that happening.

Plus, all this nonsense just makes it look like it's not D'Antoni's fault so they'll cop pleas, keep him, and trade Pau. Probably lose D12 in the process. Can't wait!

Let's be real, Ryan...If the Lakers don't make the playoffs or get beat in the first-round D'Antioni is OUT...

It's just that simple...No amount of injuries will help him...Not when he bungled that lineup when they finally got healthy early on...

Pau's honestly taken just fine to it. Pau Gasol is a professional though. And while sometimes a pussy, he's never a bitch.

Your team needs you, they pay you a shitload of money to play basketball... go out there and suck it up...

As a Nets fan and a Brook Lopez supporter I still deep down know D12 would make the Nets better, but I wouldn't be able to stand rooting for this guy so for that reason alone I'd say no thanks

That team would be like the Magic on steroids...the Magic never had a player like Harden, and they have athleticism and shooters.

At this point the only reason he'd stay is the promise of a big name FA in 2014.

Remember, this is the dude who has said that drama and conflict are good for the team

(and save your long-winded rebuttals, "old school fans," I'm just paraphrasing what he's said, not necessarily agreeing with it)

Even if this so-called conflict is played out in the media

I really believe that he wants Dwight to clap back at him, especially since he couldn't do it "in private"

Anyone have an animated gif loop of the mini-press conference when Dwight Howard spoke to the press after Stan Van Gunder outed him last year or so? In particular, he made a pouty Ralph Furley face when refuting Stan Van Gundy's comments that is comedy gold.

i'd go as far as to say dwight should seriously consider shutting it down for the year
risking long term viability for a team whose best case scenario right now is looking like a 1st round L would be beyond idiotic
he's 27. might be a cornball but he gets the big picture apparently
not sure what dwight was supposed to say there anyway
was he supposed to agree with kobe a person that has repeatedly demonstrated that he only has his own interest at heart. fuck kobe really

I terms of simple self-preservation, it would hurt Dwight Howard to shut it down for the remainder of the season assuming he wants to bounce from the Lakers and command top dollar elsewhere. It's in his best interest to ball out and return healthy.

publicly saying that a teammate and fellow professional athlete should be playing with an injury is outrageous (not to mention the other digs about dwight not being accustomed to winning or wanting people to like him too much). it's very hard to believe dwight will consider playing two more seasons with this guy hanging around.

i like the cranky candid kobe, but his "i dont give a fuck" quotes are becoming a detriment to the team and can only get worse.

some team will give kobe 15 million a season, so the lakers won't even be on the hook for the full $60M. then reup dwight, make a strong push for CP3, deal pau (who's expiring), pickup shooters like ben gordon or dorrel wright.

$30 mil for next year. if it's only one year, i don't see them amnestying him due to the PR blowback (especially since dwight isn't exactly beloved).

that said, it's not like the lakers haven't jettisoned an aging star and kept the future face of the franchise before.

Hmmm, that sounds familiar.

in this league.
kobe once again provided a jump pass with this interview and acting like this the right thing to do or pointing to nash "look, he said it too" doesn't make it right.
it's just playing captain-save-a-kobe.

now if nash repeatedly belittles howard in the media while making sure that the reporters understand that he's a role model that everyone should but really can't follow because he's made of a different cloth, then fuck him too.

you asked about a belittling tone. A tone that I have no idea you could ascertain from written quotes. Just looking at the quotes from Kobe directly talking about playing with injuries and Nash's quote, I don't see how one can say what Kobe said was or sounded harsher than what Nash said.

>not me trying to defend some bitchassness in here.
>again, if nash belittles dwight the same way kobe does, then

I don't think either Dwight, Kobe or Nash are wrong in their quotes. I think Dwight's response is based on how Kobe's quotes were presented to him. They were presented to him by the media in a,"ah nigga...Kobe comin at yo thoat!! whatchoo gon' do?" kinda way. But what kobe said was accurate. Now, it was dumb to not think the media wasn't going to turn this shit into some next level shit. But I didn't see shade in what he said.

well, the truth is this is not the first time this season kobe is belittling dwight or throwing teammates under the bus. if you want to deny that too, cool. we can move on then because there's no point to debate shit that even the majority of kobestan has been admitting for along time now.
sure, maybe those particular quotes were taken out of context or whatever. but as LA2Philly pointed out, there's no need to even go there like that when talking to reporters.
but instead of just admitting that and letting the haters have fun in here you'd rather point out that he's basically right or at least he's not the only one saying it because nash said it too and then you back it up with this funny one liner from twitter. lol

my goodness. apologetics at its finest. you so forced by your defensiveness of the dude you already giving yourself the answers just to fall back to apologetics in your last statement.
the media is not to blame for doing some next level shit, which they don't even do with him imo. there are enough on the air quotes that tell us that this is right in line with the rest of the BS he's letting off. and he knows very well in what context he's saying those words so it doesn't even matter if you think that he might not really mean it that way or that we can't exactly read that from the written quotes.
you just don't feed the media any of this if you are the leader of the squad.
period.

First of all, you're problem is you assume that any time a laker fan doesn't completely agree that Kobe is the root to any and all that is wrong with the Lakers that they're copping pleas. I don't think what he said was throwing him under the bus. That doesn't mean I think Kobe hasn't before or is innocent.

>sure, maybe those particular quotes were taken out of context

And on this I completely agree. That was the mistake. He knows better. But I don't believe it was malicious or a challenge thrown to Dwight. What's making it sound worse is other muhfuckas adding to it. Like Shaq with his lying ass lol.

>but instead of just admitting that and letting the haters have

What he said was right. So is Dwight in his response. If you don't like to read rational opinions while you're hating, don't read it or respond to it. pretty simple if you ask me.

"blame" is your word. Not mine. The media did what they do. Kobe should've known better. It doesn't make what he said wrong or intentionally malicious. If you think what Nash said was malicious too, then fine. I don't. I'm defending the perceived intent and validity. that's it.

there are enough on the
>air quotes that tell us that this is right in line with the

lol FOH @ "enough on the air quotes". Kobe's raw and uncut ass would be far more blunt if he was trying to check Dwight's nuts in the media. Had he not followed up to clarify what he said after the craziness, I would be more inclined to believe it was intentional shade. But in this specific instance it was IMO.

Again, I agree. His fault was him talking to the media about this. Beyond that, we disagree. You apparently think what Kobe said was not accurate and meant to fuck with Dwight. So be it. Moving on.

sorry if i dared to question your rational opinion. lol
you can be mad that i call you out on defending kobe's bitchassness. cool. but i don't think kobe is the root to any and all that is wrong with them. i do believe he plays a huge part and i think it's fair that he should take the major blame for what is happening just like he does with the praise when they win.
oh yeah, people disagree on here. part of what makes posting here fun. sorry.
if you don't see how kobe belittles dwight once again by telling the media that he should stop being so sensitive i can't help you. no need in reading anything into it and it doesn't even matter if he does this 100% intentionally. i wouldn't be surprised if his bloated ego doesn't allow him to realize this.
imo your first reply and then presenting that twitter one liner either indicates that you either don't get it or that your opinion is not as rational as you'd like to think it is.

dog either you can't read or you're simply far more invested in needing me to agree with your opinion than you need to be. I said what he said regarding injuries and team urgency was not belittling. I didn't comment on anything else Kobe has said this year. The twitter post was a reply to your question. I didn't expect you to agree with it. I'm not sure what you want me to say at this point. I'm absolutely fine not agreeing with you. Keep it pushin

any different than what Nash said. Kobe mistake was saying anything to begin with. How it was delivered wasn't the issue. The team doesn't have time for niggas to nurse injuries. That's not calling Dwight a bitch. It's telling the truth about the team's current situation. He shouldn't have said anything to the media. But nobody not named Dwight on the team disagrees with Kobe's sentiment.

If it wasn't for losing the lottery pick this year, I wouldn't care if we didn't make the playoffs and if Dwight walked. I can't see this team winning with him being the guy during his prime. Not with the limitations in his game coupled with his ego.

and start fresh next season.

S&T D12 one place, Pau to another, amnesty Kobe, dangle Nash to see who wants him and for what. Resign EC and snatch up a marquee FA (CP3? Dreaming, I know) An excellent roster and/or draft picks could be had for all of that.

I'd really rather not see another season of old players, injuries, and Kobe's interviews. I'm done with this entire roster sans EC. The only thing left after that is Artests option, which he might reconsider if all of the above actually happened. I don't really care if we keep D12. I just want to field a team that can win a title.

I'm no Lebron apologist, but forced narrative? Dude had his jersey burned in effigy, and he was #1 hated athlete just for leaving as a free-agent. He was hated more than Ben Rapeistberger AND Tiger Woods

That shit wasn't forced, cats HATED him...and jumped for joy when Dirk and the Mavs beat them. Bron just had to go Game Genie next year to shut people up

Dwight's shoulder will start "acting up" again.

when the bromance x the gay raptor happened.....they didnt do well either in that first season....then they won.

im gonna say the same thing will happen here too. i wont say they will win next year but they wont be bad if this team is still around next year.

but yes. Howard being a bit of a bitch. Kobe shouldnt have said it in the media, but if the internal talks werent lighting a fire under his ass then this might.

but everyone is like he shouldnt play because he might get injured...sorry but.....winners play hurt. champion boxers fight with broken hands sometimes. curt schilling with the bloody sock. you may risk more injury but thats what winners do. they take risks.

he's 27 years old about to see the best payday in his life, and he came back from a back injury, which is one that can rob fantastic athletes of what makes them great. see johnson, larry. now he has a fucked up shoulder, and he's supposed to play on a sub 500 team, ill assembled, with damn near no shot to make the playoffs and no real chance to make noise if they get there...for who, for what?

This team isn't working. Nash, Kobe, and Dwight are a terrible fit and two of the three are old men while Dwight is a 10 year vet who lived off athleticism and power and his body is worn down because of it.

Could someone make it work? Maybe but that someone sure as hell isn't Mike D'Antoni.

told cats that Kobe is cries and pouts and gotta have his way and without the right folks around, teammates and head coach to handle that ego he comes undone 1)

kobe is getting a taste of his own medicine because dwight is the youngster and he is the old man and that team is flat as a pancake with no rise 2)

Phil knew it was a mess and he got all he could get out and didn't want back in, 3)

MIKE bROWN had the right ideas but Kobe didn't respect him and they didn't listen at all and d'antoni has arguably the most influential style of coaching over the past decade problem is other teams are doing it and using it better than he is. the clippers and the rockets are more d'antoniesque then this laker team will ever be 4)

and the cold hearted truth the lakers are going to stink until Kobe leaves and guess what? the Clippers are going to stay running LA also the lakers parted with the 2nd center and next the best center going so they are going to be stuck in Chris Mimms territory for a while or Travis knight lane. nobody wants to go there while Kobe is playing 5)

i love this Laker trainwreck its fantastic and deep down Shaq is like i told you so.

Jacked from a RealGM post:

KEVIN DING ‏@KevinDing
D'Antoni on Dwight's shoulder: "He's been (medically) cleared for a while. ... He felt better today. That's why he played."

@Tom_Layman D'Antoni on Howard: "He's cleared. He's always been cleared."

Serena Winters ‏@SerenaWinters
Mike D'Antoni also informed us on @TWCSportsNet that Dwight's been cleared to play for awhile...tonight he just decided to play...

Alex Kennedy ‏@AlexKennedyNBA
After hearing Mike D'Antoni say that Dwight Howard chose to sit out even though he had been cleared, Kobe Bryant's comments make more sense.

Yes, the best way to get your team together is to throw Dwight under the bus. No way in hell he re-signs. This is amazing.

They'll either take Lopez and Brooks (which they should just try to get now) or Howard can leave them with nothing and sign with Dallas or Atlanta or Houston.

If Dwight walks, fine. That's cap room. Otherwise, sign and trade him and figure out a three team scenario if need be. Amnesty Kobe, and that's more cap room. Pau's contract increases in value because it's expiring, and there are potential deals to be had for that reason. Tell Ron he'll be dealt if he resigns.

If they wanted to pull the trigger, they could blow it up and rebuild overnight. They are in a unique position in that they CAN blow it up and have assets that can be parlayed into value while keeping us competitive and getting younger.

I mean dude was down on the ground holding his arm and neck after Shannon came down on him...that still has to be in his head. Compound the fact that he's still dealing with his back injury...it's just a shitty situation all-around, exacerbated by the fact that we have a coach and star player who for some godforsaken reason still don't comprehend how to keep their mouths shut to the media.

And since the day he got here practically.

That being said, he is an unbelievably arrogant & irritable interview (particularly after losses) and he is never accountable at all with pleas and buck-passing/bus-tossing galore but I guess that's his way.

He's kinda emboldened by the fact that they really can't fire him this season and if they did he still gets paid anyway.

Honestly they sorta suck regardless & the divergent agendas between players would likely be the same.

But he certainly ain't helping.

for the LA scrutiny. That's not a diss. Not many stars are. It's a lot of bullshit you have to deal with that you can't let your play be affected by. The Lakers have some great fans and some really shitty ones. Plus the media agendas. You gotta fight through that shit. It's easier to be a solid ball player or one who improves every year with low expectations than it is to be an elite/star player in LA.

link: http://network.yardbarker.com/nba/article_external/kobe_bryant_walks_off_court_with_five_seconds_left_in_game_video/12282223

Swipe (with video evidence):

Kobe Bryant shoot poorly in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 106-98 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night, and he was so upset he walked off the court before the game actually ended.

Bryant had missed a three pointer that would have made it a five-point game with around 20 seconds left when he went back to the defensive side of the court. Rather than foul Memphis, the Lakers conceded defeat and allowed the Grizzlies to dribble out the clock. Bryant wasn’t in the mood to stick around for the Grizzlies’ celebration, so he began walking off the court and toward the locker room with about 12 seconds left. He made his complete exit from the court with about five seconds on the clock, and was the first member of the Lakers inside the tunnel.

Kobe shot 7-for-23 and scored 13 of his 30 points at the free throw line by shooting 13-14. He went 0-for-5 from the field in the final five minutes of the game, including three missed three-point attempts.

We have seen examples of players like Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo heading off the floor before a game ends, so this is nothing new. Highly competitive players often have a hard time accepting defeat or sticking around to congratulate opponents. Whether you like it or not, Kobe is not out there to make friends, but to win games, and we know he thinks being an a-hole is necessary in basketball.

Howard has likely been playing through pain all season. He does seem overly concerned with public perception and other little mickey mouse shit that doesn't have all that much to do with winning games. So does kobe, but like other successful narcissists in team sports, he has managed to incorporate winning into his goals. Howard is not there yet maybe.
