"So now the Raiders are going with tarps huh?"

http://www.raiders.com/tickets/seating-price-map.html

Missing are 8 sections in the 3rd deck and the upper level of Mt Davis... so they come back and fuck up the stadium for baseball by building seats they won't even be selling now... I would say it's unbelievable but we're talking about the Raiders and city of Oakland here

What a joke

*edit*
Found one showing the tarpped off areas

If you notice in the old pic I linked the bleachers were down at field level... I spent a lot of summer days sitting out there with a good view of the outfielders interacting with the likes of Reggie, Billy North, Dwayne Murphy & Rickey.. they were great seats for a great price. Mt Davis also changed the park configuration with the jagged edges jetting in and out as well as places where the wall had to be raised... this created a patch work and closed in feel to the whole park.

Aesthetically it not only took away the mountains (the view of the Oakland Hills at night was spectacular) but the grassy area above the bleachers (I think Reggie is the only one to ever hit it there)... had Mt Davis not been erected a huge hd center field replay board could have been placed here.. much like the one at AT&T Park

Bottom line... yeah Al fucked it up

Multi-purpose stadiums almost always shaft baseball to make things more comfortable for football.

I get that you're a Raiders fan, but you can't seriously believe Mt Davis doesn't hurt that place as a baseball stadium.

you would be pissed too.

really though, what makes the baseball stadium more important than the football field? you have a very one-sided view of the whole situation. you are basically saying 'fuck football, i want my baseball ambiance'. i'm pointing out that it can go both ways.

and last, your issues are not with the raiders or al davis. its with whomever agreed to let him have those renovations as part of the move back to oakland.

claiming it still had rights territorial rights to the LA market.

raiders fans unconditionally supporting Al's every move has been a quizzical head-scratcher of a case study.

Though I see OldPro's point, the team who stayed loyal to the city couldn't get a new park, but Oakland was plenty willing to fuck up their home to bring back the Raiders. But it's America, and the NFL makes the rules, so it's understandable.

But you asked how they fucked up the stadium for baseball, and the fact that the view, the closeness to the field and the closing off of the stadium have adversely affected the stadium for baseball fans would seem to answer your question.

Why did Al want to move back to Oakland to begin with? I'm not trying to snark, I know he wanted a new stadium in LA and wasn't getting it, was this just the next closest thing he could get? Because while they added the extra seats and boxes, it's still an old building that they would have to share with a baseball team (and the aforementioned dirt infield on the football field.)

thats a separate thread

this affects both teams, not just the raiders. it makes for 'not ideal' conditions, for both teams.

Raiders to block off top of Mt. Davis
February 6, 2013, 10:30 am

As part of a stadium "capacity adjustment" for the 2013 NFL season, the Raiders are going to block off the top of Mt. Davis on the east side of the O.co Coliseum -- sections 335 through 355 -- as well as upper deck sections 300 through 303 on the south side of the original stadium and sections 331 through 334 on the north side.

It is not yet known how many total seats are in those sections but with a pre-adjusted capacity of 63,132, the Coliseum had the second-lowest in the NFL, ahead of the Chicago Bears' Soldier Field, which is listed at 61,500.

The Raiders are going to announce Wednesday afternoon specifics to the new plan, which includes a price reduction on some season tickets.

Since returning to Oakland from Los Angeles in 1995, the Raiders struggled with selling enough tickets to avoid local television blackouts. But in 2011, the Raiders sold out every home game and in 2012, after taking advantage of the league's 85 percent threshold rule, meaning they did not have to sell every seat in the Coliseum to avoid blackouts, seven of eight home games were televised locally. The only blackout was against Cleveland on Dec. 2.

In fact, the Raiders have televised 15 of their last 16 home games, and since 1995, the Raiders have televised 64 home games and been forced to black out 80 games.

I doubt they will sell out whatever stadium they play in once the honeymoon is over. With the product they continue to put out and the cholo fan base. I doubt its going to bring in any one outside of the stereotypical fan base.
