"How do you acquire your sports news now? And why"

Me first thing is always okp and or rotoworld because I generally get all breaking news fast.

Rotoworld is slightly faster than okp, but I can give feedback and opinion on okp.
Twitter is faster than rotoworld but I like getting the aggregate in the more streamlined fashion of rotoworld without having to be on twitter or one of the twitter apps all day.

2nd ill hit clutchfans--the rockets fan site and message board. They break rockets stories quick and also have a general nba board that breaks news pretty quick--though I rarely post there.

If there's a particular news story after this I want to follow up on in addition to okp discussion, ill either google news it or hit twitter to find more opinions/articles.

Ill then hit yahoo and sports Ws to check my fantasy teams. Often in doing that ill see other interesting headlines I follow up on.

I honestly really don't read many other sites like grantland or deadspin for opinions cause I got y'all. Anything that's worth reading I feel like someone here eventually posts.

I'm guess I'm also a bit snobbish about where I get my info--if it doesn't get through y'all's vetting. For the most part it's not worth my time.

There's a couple other sites I read every couple days for combat sports --especially around a big fight week.

I used to read a lot more gambling sites before I retired.

Anyhow this post is more market research to th OKsports network. I was gonna keep it to the spreadsheet I sent out to people who were interested in helping but realized even ppl who don't wanna help or can't help have a way of acquiring information about sports I want to know about.

Hopefully we can get this list going for a bunch of y'all and a discussion going.

In doing some research I saw some challenges which Ill hold off on discussing for now til I get some more ideas from you guys.

I don't watch televised sports news, and I never go to a site like ESPN for news. Sometimes I go to Yahoo but they're much better with columnists than they are with breaking news.

Mainly I get my breaking news from OKP, and from a 10-year old sports email thread I have with like 6 of my boys, who are from all over the country.

I go to blogs for analysis, and the comments sections of a handful (mostly SBN sites for the Skins and Caps).

I haven't voluntarily watched sportscenter or ESPN news is literally probably 10 years or so.

I've pretty much narrowed my sports follows on Twitter down to where if anything I consider important happens, I'll find out about it.

OKP always seems to be out in front of any other media outlet. The opinions and insight here are a lot better (& funnier) than anywhere else.

Between the two, I'll be exposed to any article or video that is important.

i don't really need "breaking news" the second it drops...okp literally covers my needs..when my boy texts me 'rumors' i check here to see if its being talked about here.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

i used to have a slam subscription and picked uo additional mags (SI, various other NFL and Bball mags) at the store but that is close to zero now.
that stopped about 10 years ago. online took over but I still appreciate a well written mag when I pick one up occasionally.

espnews - just watch for highlights but i like the bottom scrollbar

local sports radio - usually has the best insight on my squads

But usually just for the headlines. Its a sickness, I know.

Usually come here after that.

During hoops season its straight to HoopsHype. They have the most recent news collected from across the web, plus their NBA journalist twitter feed is excellent.

Hornets/Saints boards next for the local spin and occasional madmaking.

Yahoo, Grantland, Rotoworld etc for articles and time killers after that.

Twitter's better for breaking news, but Reddit is unbelievable for news aggregation (and discussion once the news breaks).

The great thing about Reddit's voting algo is that the best news and comments float to the top, and the massive userbase means you get news from a ton of different sources.

Like the front page on the NFL subreddit right now:

http://i.imgur.com/Rpw3mrS.jpg

You can see the mix of big topics (Driver retiring, Foster's surgery) with random pictures (Belichick and Harbaughs), random topics (explaining NFL rules to an outsider, Lombardi's stance on anti-prejudice) and local news recently posted (Steve Young jealous of 49er's pistol offense).

follow your local sports beat writers and you will never need to check espn or sports sites anymore.

you will also gain insights into 'behind the scenes' issues that they pick up by just being in the locker room and near the bench during games

that's it. On Twitter I follow a few national guys but mostly targeted folks (pacers local guy, Purdue recruiting guys, etc)

And here.

5-10 years ago I went to espn.com multiple times a day, that almost never happens now. Or any other major site, unless it's thru a targeted lead (swipe)

Lakers, Yankees, Cowboys etc ... you practically don't even need to watch local coverage of your teams because you know you're getting plenty of air time on Sportscenter
