I think according to rWAR, the 1980 Athletics were in the mix for best OF of all time.

LF - Rickey Henderson: 8.7
CF - Dwayne Murphy: 6.7
RF - Tony Armas: 5.6

After a cursory search, the only team that I found better were the 1963 Giants:

LF - Willie McCovey: 6.2
CF - Willie Mays: 10.2
RF - Felipe Alou: 4.8

The 2004 Twins also had two Canadians who grew up aspiring to play hockey in the infield and *neither* of them had a mullet because it was 2004 and that's a pretty uncommon haircut in 2004.

Could probably add a parenthetical (Rogers Centre) after Sky Dome to add an extra dash of contempt.

And with apologies to Joe Carter, this is still my favorite moment in the history of the stadium:

Lloyd Moseby was the weak link in the Bell-Moseby-Barfield years. Good fielder/baserunner but if I remember correctly, his bat was a little weak for them to be considered the best.

3 years of Upton for 1 year of Prado, an expendable Delgado, and a bunch of stuff that might not even make the majors. At worst, that's going to be a really good defensive OF, and if they all hit that is probably the best OF in all of baseball. If they can get anything out of that 3b platoon they should be able to give the Nats a good run in the east.

lol, Waino IS a Georgia boy, but naw you know I bleed Cardinal red, but I WILL be checking for these dudes especially when the come to Busch, they remind me of the Cardinal teams of the 80's and early to mid 90's(pre-LaRussa) that I fell in love with. I long for the day we get another African-American star.

He had a down/injured/typical 2nd year and found his patience at the plate, feet and aggression on the pads and in the field last year while refining his swing. He's two years ahead of Trout and Bryce, no comparison to them until they put in three full seasons. Oh, and he's only 23 still. He's fine.

Heyward has been better than BJ and is 5 years younger. Although going to Atlanta and playing alongside Justin might rejuvenate BJ and I could see him playing better than Heyward, he certainly has the talent for it.

OF anything

since my almost 2 year old post was brought up

the original premise of the post was that there was an obvious agenda

to push a marketing campaign behind the "next" african american baseball star

and that was the reason he made the all-star team as a rookie

leading vote getter for the OF at that (if I remember correctly, same year CarGo threatened for the triple crown)

not his performance

which is even more ironic mentioning the Dodgers

why that wasn't Matt Kemp, IDK?

and to the Dominic Brown reply

that also demonstrated that a player can have a breakout initially

and then decline in performance after teams become familiar with that player (also pure snark)

oh, and I wasn't on the boards tough last summer because I moved across country

thanks for your concern

and the Phillies sucked, painful to follow, and I couldn't watch it anyway

which you denied multiple times in that thread?

All Star voting rewards established stars and early performers; Heyward's April and May were amazing that year. He was the third leading outfield vote getter, not the leader. Matt Kemp had a pretty dismal 2010. Gonzalez had a great year but did it pretty silently in a small market and out of nowhere.

And all over that thread you made all these claims about how overrated Heyward was and will continue to be, then you kicked it up the next year when he was hurt, then ghost on the subject last year...when you were moving...all summer...on foot?

my original post implicated ESPN as the reason

you calling me racist

and me saying MLB had an agenda are 2 different things

because I think I also said that in the initial thread

has he made the all-star team since his rookie year

if he is the 3rd best OF in the NL, as stated in a reply above

I would think you would be more upset that he wasn't selected the past 2 seasons

I checked out after 2011

I think promise of him being Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, etc...

has long been deaded

Even in years when his bat is kind of "meh" he'll provide a lot of value with his defense and baserunning. He's basically got to be injured or run out to center without a glove over and over again to not put up a 3-4 WAR season.
