whether it's justified or not iono but morey is kind of the face of AS right now i find it interesting that his two biggest acquisitions seem to have been less about analytics and more about opportunity though so i'm not sure how effective a tool it is for building a team as opposed to evaluating things in retrospect if he lands josh smith like i think he will try to do this offseason that will kind of underline the point

morey did manage to push for the playoffs with a team of 6'4" guards, i don't think any conventional GM would have done that. even with the slump, the team has overachieved slightly or at least performed to expectations.

it's entirely possible that morey could end up in the lottery for the 4th time in 6 yrs lin and harden are playing increased minutes for the first time and could hit the proverbial wall we'll see i guess either way any success the team has this yr will be attributed to harden and to a lessen extent lin the two acquisitions that i think were more about opportunity than anything else it was rumored that this was kind of a make or break yr for morey, he had to make some sort of splash (probably what lin was mostly about)

honestly not underperformed even if they do narrowly miss the playoffs this year and find themselves as a nonplayoff team for 4/6 seasons. it's not like they had some five-year plan that flopped, they had to undergo kind of a sinewy reloading/rebuilding process as their cornerstone players got old, hurt or both.
they are moving in the right direction now with the ability to add another star after adding harden. they are winning some more games. i think he has done a respectable job, though not a great one, of course.

you could argue that the rockets already gave Morey mad slack on the leash as is he was just on the hot seat *this* past summer not saying dudes garbage cause i think it's hard to rebuild nba teams since you need a lot of shit to fall ur way but i think his recent moves have been about saving his job and he's said as much so don't be surprised if he reaches on a name player who AS don't really support especially if they miss the playoffs again (assuming he still has a job if that happens)

first of all, you're making it sound as though the rockets hired him in the midst of a rebuild or right before they began one. six years ago they were still all about tmac and yao. you could say they had to be looking toward the future, but either way they were playing mcgrady until 2010 and yao until 2012.
so the actual rebuilding part was the past couple of seasons and they were fairly aggressive about it with some success, too.

and what did he do? scramble like hell to land a star, ultimately getting one after it seemed all (D12, Deron) was lost. he also put a more balanced team on the floor this season. to me, they are moving in the right direction. i dont have any real reason to think that other than being sincere. i am not that big on advanced stats (i am sure the proprietary ones they use are much more interesting) and i don't care one way or the other about the rockets or any of their players even.

yeah i mean this is the time where he gets to shape the team and start fairly fresh, so of course it's pivotal. rebuilding, i mean some teams are stuck doing it forever. the bobcats have been in a perpetual state of rebuilding since they came into the league.

i am not fully aware of their cap situation but i bet they will have to blow some money this summer, yeah, and if only crap is available, they will probably take it. i guess they have some trade assets so if they wanted to get something more concrete, they could make a deadline deal.
