I don't see a huge disparity in winning percentages. Neither won a Superbowl and both got there only once. Andy had the more talented teams and superior ownership. Smith was in the NFCCG two years ago and just went 10-6. Andy has been in a hard nosedive for two years.

I can't see how Reid has been much more successful.

He's won more games, won a higher percentage of his games, won significantly more playoff games (Lovie's won 3 playoff games total in his career & went to the playoffs three times in nine years compared to nine times in fourteen) and just overall has a better resume.

Now I think he's clearly gone off the rails recently & stayed too long (this season's collapse is the only reason their winning percentages are even close) but I fail to see where Lovie has an advantage overall.

being the President of football operations

ala Holmgren and Belichik

you could give him more credit for the success of the franchise

than just a traditional coach

also, that translated into the franchise's most successful period in the superbowl era

i don't even like Andy Reid and wouldn't have minded if the Eagles had hired Smith as his replacement
but this is pretty obvious if the careers are looked at as a whole

so far.

Part of it is longevity, part of it is Jim Johnson, part of it is the divisions they played in.

But right now, if given equal teams and I need a coach? I'm picking Smith. Reid's last two years in Philly have been unbelievably bad

Golf clap to this. I can't see a Lovie team just tanking like these last two Andy squads. The mindset is stronger even if the individual 'talent' isn't. He's a better leader at this point. He just needed to get ONE offensive coordinator that meshed with his group. Martz was too much. Tice wasn't anywhere near enough. Maybe he just needed something in the middle.

Andy? Yeah...Jim Johnson was important, and it is tough to replace someone like that, but good lord did Andy screw the pooch with that task.

And it is pretty telling that several Bears were openly ticked at Lovie getting canned while the Eagles were basically shrugging their shoulders and ready to audition for the next cat. Part of that is knowing Andy was toast, but still...

Really...I'm afraid of both of these guys. I'm just not sure that either one can assemble a killer staff to carry them above their weaknesses and hold a team together through any major issues. And neither one has a 'look at these rings' card to lay down, so I just don't know.

Andy is the formerly successful but recently slumping coach of oksports' favorite football team.

Really, the comparison was inevitable.

81-63, 3-3 playoffs, one Super Bowl appearance, one NFC title game, three division titles.

vs

224-130 (.20 higher winning %, dump the outliers and his percentage is way higher), 10-9 playoffs, one Super Bowl appearance, five NFC title games, seven division titles.

Smith also missed the playoffs the same number of times as Reid in five fewer seasons as a head coach.

This not even debatable.

I guess I am also considering the level of talent they have had to work with. I never really thought of Andy Reid as being a far superior coach to Lovie but apparently I was alone in this opinion.

I was honestly curious as to why Lovie seems about ready to end up like Dennis Green (who was a better coach that Lovie or Andy) but Andy is still a very hot commodity. Clearly they are perceived by most people here as not being on the same level. Maybe that is how NFL execs see it too.

Lovie's did that maybe once or twice, and fell short plenty. I can't believe people were really going to the mat for him after the second half of this past season. Come on.

even when they broke strong i had no faith in this bears team. i dont know, for much of my life i feel like the whole culture there has been a little off. they often put together good defenses but never a really complete team.

Hold on, you thought Lovie's teams were underachievers?

We went to the NFCCG two years ago with the least talent of any NFCCG team in recent memory.

Went to the SB with Rex Grossman at QB.

I guess I am just unclear as to when Lovie had a wealth of talent and flubbed it.
