"Knicks stay dreaming: CP3 to NY?"
Fri Jan-11-13 02:12 PM by melmag

Chris Paul turned down a three-year, $60 million contract extension from the Los Angeles Clippers, spurring New York Knicks fans to hold onto that wild idea that Paul could sign with New York.

This theory is not coming out of thin air, either. At Carmelo Anthony’s wedding two years ago, Paul gave a toast saying that he, Anthony, and Amar’e Stoudemire could their “own big three in New York,” referencing the recent moves by the Miami Heat in adding LeBron James and Chris Bosh to Dwyane Wade’s team.

Although he has been pleased with what the Clippers have been doing this season, Paul wouldn’t rule out New York as option. Anthony simply smiled when reporters asked him about the idea of he and Paul joining forces on the Knicks.

However, Paul may just be making a financial decision, here. At the end of the season, he can sign a five-year, $108 deal with L.A., so it wouldn’t make sense for him to take less money now.

There are definite signs that Paul could become a Knick in the future, though. After a Team USA Olympic practice over the summer, Paul and Anthony walked through the media room together, and ‘Melo said to reporters, “you’ll see him in New York in a couple years.”

In not signing Jeremy Lin to an outrageous deal over the off-season, New York left the door open for Paul to come to New York. Raymond Felton is playing great this season for the Knicks, but CP3 is the best point guard in the league.

The Knicks are 23-10, Anthony is playing at an MVP level, and here we are talking about bringing the NBA’s best PG to New York. Life is good for Knicks fans right now.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

kinda fucked their chances of getting another superstar to pair with harden this offseason
maybe the knicks would have kept Lin then (did any other teams even go after Lin besides houston?)
woulda been better off running with toney D this yr as a mulligan (what it is anyway)
but yea houston is going be about 6-7 mil short of being able to offer a true max
lin is a 8 mil hit next yr

for starters the 8mil that lin's salary 'jumps' too is the same 8mil on houston's books this year.

Assuming they decline Delfino's option, they will be in position to sign another max player.

...but why would Paul leave the Clippers for the...Knicks?

In all seriousness, all (Bulls) hate aside, how are the Knicks a better situation than the Clippers right now?

A ton of their money is tied up in Chandler and Amare' (who is a shell of his former self).
The only future on that squad is Shumpert, right?

I think we can beat you guys no problem with a focused Melo.
We just can't let both Melo & JR go off.
Jennings & Ellis lit us up couple nights ago.
So we have a chip too.

If ya'll win, ya'll still slated at the 5 overall, and 2nd in the Central.
If we win, we're still #1 in the Atlantic, and tied for the best record in the East.
