"Taking more money for less playing time"

The transfer window is currently open, and it looks like Demba Ba will move to Chelsea, which probably means less starts and games he'll be playing in. Other players have moved from starters at smaller clubs to benchwarmers at big clubs. Luka Modric comes to mind as well. These players are also making more money now while playing less.

So, is there ever a time when a player should look to go for the playing time over the payday, or should players always look out for their pockets? It's not only a soccer question, because it happens in other sports too.

You're such pests...now, what is it you want? In your depths of your ignorance, what is it you want? Well, whatever it is you want, I can't deliver because I just don't see it. - Orson Welles
