"Mon. Fun: What would you/your team offer for Varejao?"

If he were actually available? Make the numbers match

The Cavs could trade Anderson Varejao, sources tell the Akron-Beacon Journal.
The report sounds more speculative in nature than based in firm fact, but trading Varejao has been an option for the Cavs since before the season started. After having drafted Tyler Zeller, the organization has come "to grips" with the idea that now "might be the time" to deal Varejao. His owners have to be mindful that a possible trade could have a negative impact on his fantasy value down the road.

The numbers
15.1 ppg, 15.2 rpg, 3.3 ass

His Salary Numbers
12-13: 8.4
13-14: 9.1
14-15: 9.8

In the last 3 seasons he's missed significant games, and more over the course of his career, but he has also played 81 twice and 78 games before.

Problem is most contenders have low picks that doesnt help the Cavs much. They also dont have young stars sitting on their bench to deal.

A team like OKC can maybe trade that Tor-Hou pick and Jeremy Lamb with throw ins to match salary, but I doubt Presti and small market OKC make a play.

Would be interesting for the Rockets to play him next to Asik but we'd have to give a lot of young talent and cap flexibility--Morey wouldnt do it unless he saw Varejao as a possible ma type player.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Kendrick Perkins, Jeremy Lamb, and maybe perry Jones + the picks for Andy.
Wouldnt be a bad deal for both teams.

Perkins is garbage...ass juice personified.
Dude is completely overrated...his "toughness" is a facade. Dude cried on twitter when Bron laughed at him getting dunked on by Blake.

If that deal is there for OKC...they should take it RIGHT TODAY...him AND Ibaka on the frontline is as formidable as it gets

Jeremy Lamb AND Perry Jones? that's almost a Redskins type deal. I think that with those young players we could definitely work that out though.

he hasnt been around for half a year. Celtics are okay without him. Sure he can help spell Rondo and JT, but like realrap said, Anderson solves your big man issues.

It does suck for Rondo in the big picture, long term thing once it fully becomes his team though--

But I think the Cavs would covet Bradley cause he can spell Kyrie and Dion or have Dion come off the bench.

all speculation of course

He has shown much improvement on the offensive side of the ball too. He could easily round out to be a championship role player..legit starter. I can understand not giving him up...

But 15 and 15 of pure hustle and grit would be wonderful for our non rebounding asses.

Let that team be young and talented, and have Scott work with all of them as a unit.

However, if I were Cleveland, I'd see about moving Tristan Thompson. Dude is Tyrus Thomas 2.0

ppat would have to go too. he and jones would be the two main assets, with cook in there to make the money work. varejao would start and morris would become the stretch four off the bench.

think cleveland could do better elsewhere.

so giving Kyrie a beast of a player in Boozer and a scoring PF might be that spark he needs. Tristan sucks and doesn't deserve tick.

Without Boozer we lose our top scorer so we will tank and be lottery bound which would be great for the cavs to build.

How is that bad for them. They get a Duke player and high pick and we get Anderson and a project.

Me neither...besides the real point that the Bulls are HURTING for a true second scoring/playmaker option that can get his own shot and not have Rose killing himself to put the ball in the hoop AND get the team involved...

The question is, what position do the Bulls need this scorer? If you guys got Boozer and Deng at the 3 and 4 spots, I'm assuming it's Rip. Boozer is a scorer, I'll give him that...Deng is, well Deng
Maybe Monta becomes available...or try to make a deal with SAC to get Tyreke

It's one of the biggest blunders for the Bulls and there have been many...

We need it at the 2 spot or at the 5 (see below)....

We had our chance at Mayo, but cheap ass Jerry decided to kill our bench and stay with old man Rip...On the real, I wouldn't mind them going after Rudy Gay in the off season....And if we can get our hands on D. Howard (I continue to hope for a complete meltdown in Laker land so dude can come to his senses and leave them high and dry) that would be exceptional...

It's a tricky situation...When you have a team owner that cares more about baseball than basketball, which has given him his biggest success in the sports arena, then hey, it is what it is...

Shit is fucked...We are a mediocre team this season, which is worse than sucking...Whatever happens, Rose can't continue to play like the bionic man on the court...We gotta make life easier for that kid...

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

varejao is a much better rebounder and that's it. varejao been passing but that's not historically a strong point for him and no one else in cleveland can right now.

to a certain extent you can't teach boards but varejao did get demonstrably better over the years, so maybe he could inspire his compatriot.

it really is a difference in hustle on the glass and vet savvy.

but do you realize theres a reason he isnt playing Varejao minutes despite spurs getting very little from Blair and Diaw?

Like you said above he doesnt have a Varejao motor. Thats not really something yu learn. Traditionally, you either have it or you dont.

How big is the Spurs window anyway?

that's going to depend more on parker/ginobili/duncan than anyone around them. diaw was absolute shit for ALL of last season but like 3 weeks. same with sjax. if that's how pop is playing it, i trust him.

i do want this team to have something in the post as duncan fades out, and as much as we love varejao, dude's career could end any week.

so the only people i wouldn't trade for varejao are parker, duncan, kawhi, and splitter.

and i do think splitter would get 30 a night in cleveland. 36 is insane, but varejao can't do that all season.

Splitter is showing some value but he's also showing some limitations. Sideshow Andy would be tremendous alongside Duncan. He doesn't have the smoothness of Splitter (hell he doesn't have the smoothness of Oberto) but other than that he is better in pretty much every way.

Cleveland would be after

Something with Young, Young or Hawes and Allen going would make $ work but doesn't seem all that attractive to Cleveland.

I don't think I'd give up on Turner for him, I mean that takes even the prospect of scoring off the table.

he's finally playing well - so deal his ass while there's value. varejao has been a top ten player this year and makes 8 mill. he also gives you someone who can play the C while bynum is out and PF should he ever return. plus turner is an OSU star, so that's appealing.

but they can do better, since philly doesn't have draft picks to deal.

And Varejao is perfect insurance in case Bynun can't come back to form. They would need a more reliable scorer, but that lineup would work

I agree, trade Turner while his stock is up...you don't want to be left with a bag of dildos

And I gotta find out where Sixer fans stand on him: they either love him or hate him

Be looking at Turner and another asset for him.

Why is this thread even here? Are they shopping him?

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

i'm not sure why any team would want to trade an excellent, versatile big man who makes $8M a season unless there was an exceptional return.

Playing on a bad team has always correlated w/ inflated stats. Dude was above average even during the current wack era of NBA big-men on a contender & I don't see why that wouldn't be the case today.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

"he's priceless" - *Austin Carr voice*

I'd only want to do a trade for a good young player & a top pick; basically OKC could only offer us a fair deal with the pick they have from Toronto. I don't even really want Perry Jones or Lamb, if the Cavs wanted those busters, we would have drafted them.
Plus this trade would send Andy to a champion contender, which would be ideal.

Come on, dog...He hasn't even played 25 games yet...All I'm saying is slow down...They call them rookies for a reason...

Kyrie needs to play more, too...He's a dope talent, but we don't know if he's a lock down franchise guy yet given his injuries in college and the nick nacks he's going through now....

These things take time, Basa....Let the young boys grow...I'll judge them after more than a year on the court together...

we was talking about tristan and dion as TALENTS...their SKILLSETS...there you go wanting to get in your lil kyrie injury shots.

look, your guy had them early bumps and bruises too, then he got completely fucked up. i hope that don't happen to kyrie, so i don't talk up niggas injuries.

if that's what you feel you need to do...go right ahead.

You being absurd, homie...lol

You calling out players who haven't even had a year under their belts...What I'm saying is Kyrie hasn't been in the league more than two years yet...He's part of the growing process too...He's gotta pay his dues just like all the other studs that get drafted on bad teams...

Rose had to do it...So did Durant...So did Bron...Just let them kids grow and live before declaring them beneath Kyrie...

This is why it's tough talking NBA with you...because you don't care about the game...And you could give less than a fuck about the Cavs....lol

You are being unreasonable because it's all about 1 guy in your mind...

Basically, I'm saying you got to give this team and some its players at least 3 years to start shitting on kids that are barely 22 years old...

How the fuck is Dion a miss? And even with Tristan being offensively challenged, he's far from a "miss"(only dude I would like over him from that draft is Faried)

We're already going to have a top pick because of our own record, one more this season would put us exactly where we need to be as far as accumalitted assets

Nobody said he's cripple....But we not talking about a dude that's been the league 5 years either...he's growing too, Basa...I want to see this Dion kid grow with Kyrie...I want to see him at least play an entire year together...Hell, how about 2 years?

james/wright/crowder/a pick fir varejao ... I believe that is adequate

I also believe that varejao is slightly overrated, considering he isn't even a career double/double guy. He is 30 years old, and his career avgs are 7/7

This could just be a peak year for him, and he could totally flatline next season.

Anderson Varejao (knee) needs surgery to repair a "a small longitudinal split in the vastus medialis" and is expected t be out for 6-8 weeks.
It's a split quad muscle for Varejao. This is just a brutal blow for owners who were holding on to Varejao expecting him to be back in the near future. We suspected that the injury was more severe than a knee contusion, and an MRI revealed exactly that. Tyler Zeller and Tristan Thompson are locked into major roles for the foreseeable future, while the injury likely lessens the interest in Varejao on the trade market.
Related: Tristan Thompson, Tyler Zeller
