"Poll question: how you like your baseball?"

this year thus far is the year of the pitcher with all these cats having or fliritng with no hitters, and it also makes me flashback to a decade ago when it was all about the long ball. so which extreme do you prefer in baseball?

I'm cool either way as long as the Yankees are in first place. its all good.

Poll result (11 votes)
all these no hitters this year (8 votes)Vote
or more home runs (3 votes)Vote

I wanna say Lasorda had a recurring role as a genie on there.

Those Game Of The Weeks on NBC (with Scully) felt like events too because that was pretty much the only non-local baseball you were seeing (and baseball was still the country's biggest sport in the mid-80s).

Now you couldn't get me to sit through a full game of that Joe Buck Fox version without the Phillies or roofies being involved.

I like that the AL and NL are different but from a pure strategy perspective I fucks with the "NL" brand of baseball more. I actually do root for the NL in the All-Star Game because of it. I hate Josh Beckett about as much as I hate the Spankees, but watching Jack McKeon work that Marlins team back in '03 with "small ball" is what the game is all about.

For some reason, it's just ill when someone like Kerry Wood fucks around and hits a home run.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

To me the defense is what really stands out about the top level of baseball, also the precision of the pitchers. You can see guys just ripping the ball at much lower levels. I like "good bits of hitting" type ABs, where guys get down in the count and battle back or fight it off until they can do something with a two-strike pitch.

Just pure power hitting? Fun when it's your team or a real bomb but overall it's boring. Just watch the top ten defensive plays and then watch the top ten home runs. The former is exciting and distinct, the latter is boring and pretty uniform.

but at the ball park I'd say both are equally as exciting

I will never forget the sound of the moon shot Bo Jackson hit (post hip surgery!) at the Big A back in the day or the Howard's opposite-field jack in in the Series when we put that hurting on the Rays.

But most home runs, eh, I was just like "that's gone" then it sailed over the wall, then the guy ran around the bases and it was over. I've seen A LOT of baseball in person and the memorable homers were few and far between. Weird scoring, great defense, etc, that stuff I remember vividly.

There's no doubt in my mind the ball has been juiced up this year... that said the reason we're getting all these no nos and perf4ct games are due to the fact that most of these cats still can't hit (for average that is)

- Hitting 30 HR was a big deal and not something every second baseman could do
- Pitchers aren't afraid to throw inside in fear of hurting the batter's feelings
- When a batter gets brushed back and shakes it off as if it's part of the game (kind of goes hand-in-hand with the above)
- The Yankees were in the Don Mattingly years
