Mayweather seeks to serve jail sentence under house arrest
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.lvrj.com/news/mayweather-...158523405.html

Twelve days into his three-month jail sentence on a domestic battery count, undefeated champion boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. is asking to go home.

Or he contends he may never fight again.

An emergency motion obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal shows Mayweather's lawyers will ask Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa as early as Tuesday that the former Olympian bronze medal winner be allowed to serve the remainder of his sentence on house arrest.

The 35-year-old's physical conditioning is deteriorating under the stress of being jailed at the Clark County Detention Center and he's being held in "inhumane conditions," lawyer Richard Wright said in the motion filed Monday.

The boxer is being segregated from the general population and confined to his cell 23 hours a day in a locked-down section populated by felony defendants, Wright said. And in the hour each day Mayweather is allowed in a recreation area, he is alone and unable to use training facilities.

Wright stated that others who have committed similar misdemeanor offenses are treated differently and Mayweather's celebrity status "cannot be accommodated at the CCDC."

Prosecutors are expected to oppose the motion. Jail officials were not available for comment late Monday.

Mayweather was sentenced to the 90-day jail stint after pleading guilty for beating his ex-girlfriend in front of their children in September 2010. He began serving his sentence June 1. Las Vegas police have maintained that Mayweather would be held in isolation to protect him from other prisoners.

The 35-page motion, which included affidavits from Mayweather's trainer Leonard Ellerbe and personal physician Dr. Robert Voy, stated that if Mayweather remained in jail it would threaten his career. He had planned on fighting for at least two more years, according to the motion.

Voy, through a court order, examined the boxer for 90 minutes on Friday, while jail medical staff observed.

"Medical opinion shows that CCDC administrative segregation threatens to end or shorten Mr. Mayweather's boxing career," the motion stated.

Voy determined Mayweather is consuming less than 800 calories a day. He's eating fruit, bread and energy bars bought at the commissary. Under his normal daily training routine the boxer consumes between 3,000 and 4,000 calories.

Voy also investigated Mayweather's ability to exercise. He found Mayweather has no room to exercise in jail and he is not allowed to use the training areas because he's in isolation.

"After examining Mr. Mayweather, Dr. Voy was concerned with Mr. Mayweather's dehydrated appearance, his lack of muscle tone and his dry mucus membranes," the motion stated.

Dr. Voy also "expressed deep concern for Mr. Mayweather's health and explained that any lengthy period of time with an inappropriate diet, coupled with lack of regular exercise, will most likely lead to irreversible damage to Mr. Mayweather's physique," the motion stated.

"Such damage could and, most likely, would lead to Mr. Mayweather being unable to continue his boxing career," the motion stated.

Dr. Voy was also concerned that Mayweather was withdrawing into depression and developing anger issues that he normally can "dissipate" through his exercise routine.

Wright identified several differences between the way Mayweather is treated versus those in general population. Mayweather is only allowed access to shower, watch TV, use hot water to prepare food, use phones and exercise for an hour a day. Other inmates have access to phones, TV, and can play games with other inmates and are out of their cells "for most of the day."

Is that by choice? That's a starvation diet. Surely the prison isn't trying to starve him to death.

jail does suck that's for sure. and i'm sure he's very anxious and stressed, which is going to affect his appetite, etc.

jail isn't fun for a reason.

he's not eating it. jailhouse food sucks. he's probably living off the vending machines. but that's his choice.

not like he had a great diet anyway. he was eating pollo loco or popeyes, or whatever on 24/7.

the reason why he's in 23 hour a day confinement is the reason why police who are on trial can't be in general population and have to be locked up 23 hours a day. it's too risky otherwise

part of that protection is that you don't have none of the common areas as options

a) He plead guilty to a lesser charge. The felony
would have carried a faaar greater sentence.

b) Distraction of a trial is negateed. He can
actually financially plan for the next year rather
than have everything up in the air.

c) With his sentence locked in, he was in
better position to argue that his May 5 fight
was good for the city of Las Vegas, which it was.
(and is the reason he won that appeal)

d) The kids aren't dragged through a trial where every
detail (whatever they were) was re-lived. They weren't
cross examined by lawyers on both sides and forced to
choose sides pubically. Their privacy is protected and
they can choose to hang out with their parents as they
see fit (and like I said, they spend a lot of time with
Floyd, which doesn't mean anything in the pure sense
but isn't irrelevant either).

Its quite simple.

People are acting like they are crusading for women
and children in this post and its disgusting.

Most of the people in this post are deadbeat dads who
treat women terribly.

Looking at the responses, I think there is some confusion here. As I read it, Floyd is saying put me on house arrest, or put me in Gen Pop, which I personally believe is a completely legitimate request.

They should obviously not give him house arrest but if he thinks he can handle himself in Gen Pop, then let him have at it, unless you really have incontrovertible evidence that that will pose a threat to the security of the jail and it's inhabitants. Not just any threat, but one that supersedes Floyd's right to the same conditions as other people convicted of his crimes.

He's still a wifebeater though, so lol @ pleas for "house arrest" after 13 days.

And LOL @ all the moral high ground

Many of y'all in here mad have hit women before,
I'd be willing to bet (judging by how mad you get
at me in these posts, no way you have been through
a conversation with an annoying woman and not slapped
one...I'm being serious, btw)

Its pretty clear what happened to anyone who has
has basic reading comprehension

Odd how Mayweather has recently spent tons of time with
the children that he allegedly beat their mother in front
of....kids are the least forgiving, most vindictive and
sensitive creatures in the world for shit like that and
to deny that is to not know anything about children. If Floyd
beat their mother in front of them, they aren't chilling with
him. They are hating him the same way he hates his dad (who
beat his mother)

Its one thing to not like Floyd, but now y'all just
debating fundamentals of child psychology which is LOL

Unless their mother is just an awful parent who lets
her kids hang out with dangerous, abusive people on
the reg and the kids are just so dumb that they hang
out with just because

Not sure why they are spending time with someone who is
allegedly violent and a threat to their well-being. But
again -- you'd have to not be mad + be able to read well
to admit that

Obviously he plead guilty to get this thing over with,
to save everyone time and money and to prevent the kids
from having to be dragged through a trial.

His boxing career is also better off -- by pleading
guilty he was able to make his 50 million versus
Cotto and be out before winter so that he can get
out and in shape before another 50 million dollar
payday on Cinco De Mayo 2013

I thought this was common knowledge

You'd have to not be mad to admit it, though

As for trying to get house arrest-

Uhh duh

he makes his money with his body + is one of the
best conditioned athletes in the history of sports.
his legal team is just doing what they have to do
to preserve their investment

Its legal mumbo jumbo

Michael Vick did the same thing and most of the
people who hate Floyd love Michael Vick...difference
is Vick was clearly guilty, plus came out of jail
dead ass broke, unlike Floyd, who just watched his
stock go UP this past weekend...bwahahaah

Yeah, same here. I've actually volunteered my FREE time
to mentor young black men about how to control anger. Its
actually one of the things that brought me to boxing gyms.

So I'm more of an authority than you are and am probably
the most peaceful person in this post

The only thing I've ever hit any woman with is my dick,
and they ask for that

Its part of the reason why I can think clearly about it,
while you guys are busy being mad + spewing silly
sanctimony

If you were really sensitive and caring than you'd make
an honest attempt to think through the issues clearly
and carefully.

Actually I'm not especially sensitive or caring, and I don't pretend to be. I used to pretend, way back when I was in high school and wasn't so secure in who I was. But now I'm comfortable being cold, rational, and unforgiving of stupidity. So what issue am I supposed to be thinking through again?

You can have the last word, btw. You have your need to prove...lol...whatever it is you like to prove on this board. Assuaging insecurity, I reckon.

You don't know about this issue better than I do, and
I doubt you care about women OR children more than I

This is why I just post

Agreed.

Also, lol @ thinking that children know how to process seing one person they love hurt another person they love and all react in the same way.

Anyone who has lived in a household with domestic abuse knows that it is way, way, way more complicated than that. These are young kids, that assumption is really off-base.

"Daddy hit mommy so I never talked to him again"????

If only.

I have no idea if Mayweather hit his wife or not but I also give short shrift to the "didn't want to drag my kids through a trial" schpiel.

So naive and dumb that they'll comfortably and
repeatedly put themselves in the presence of the
guy who allegedly BEAT THEIR MOTHER IN FRONT
OF THEM?

>Also, lol @ thinking that children know how to process seing
>one person they love hurt another person they love and all
>react in the same way.

And LOL @ you undermining the ability of kids to form
hardlined stances against the people who they feel
threatened by

That's what children do

>Anyone who has lived in a household with domestic abuse knows
>that it is way, way, way more complicated than that. These are
>young kids, that assumption is really off-base.

So is the assumption that they would throw themselves
back into the hands of a bad parent who threatened the
well being of the person they spend most of their time
with

>"Daddy hit mommy so I never talked to him again"????
>
>If only.

It actually happens all the time

The reality is that the MAYWEATHER situation is far
more complicated than you want to admit

Problem is that you guys are just mad.

>I have no idea if Mayweather hit his wife or not but I also
>give short shrift to the "didn't want to drag my kids through
>a trial" schpiel.

Precisely. You don't want to admit it because its not
compatible with your internet agenda, which is really
quite pathetic.

It makes perfect sense to every rational person.

Everything you typed made no sense.

I said that the fact that Mayweather's children are spending time with him really tells us nothing about whether he hit their mother or not. Nothing.

To say that only a child who is an idiot would still be around an abusive parent is...not even worthy of a response, really. They are children. Find any one who has worked with kids or a social worker, both of which I have done, and they will tell you the same thing.

His children spending time with him tells us nothing about whether or not he hit their mother that night.

You deny the ones you don't like, not because
they are less likely to be true, but because they
don't support your internet agenda, which is mostly
fueled by being mad as shit.

I understand.

This is why I say you guys have anger problems.

You literally refuse to think through the issues
with any clarity.

Its honestly embarrassing for me to associate with
people like you at this stage in my life.

>I said that the fact that Mayweather's children are spending
>time with him really tells us nothing about whether he hit
>their mother or not. Nothing.

Right, just like him pleading guilty says nothing about
whether he hit her or not. Its a perfectly reasonable
assumption that he plead that to benefit his boxing career
(which it does...dragging it out is a bigger distraction
+ costs more money long term) + to prevent dragging his
kids through a trial (which is a good reason many people
have plead guilty to shit they ain't do)

But I guess the reasonable assumptions I provided are
lesser than the wild ass ones you provided, right?

I mean, I can document mine with financial numbers:

By pleading guilty, it locked in the May 5 date and
gets him out in time to be ready for another 50 million
payday next May 5 (and possibly one fight in the winter)

Mine is rooted in rationality

Yours is rooted in being mad

>To say that only a child who is an idiot would still be around
>an abusive parent is...not even worthy of a response, really.
>They are children. Find any one who has worked with kids or a
>social worker, both of which I have done, and they will tell
>you the same thing.

Exactly -

Kids sometimes hang with awful parents because they
still love them for strange reasons

Kids sometimes are harsh in their judgments of parents
and are eternally and unrelentingly unforgiving

I know the latter is true because its describes my
relationship with my father.

Both are perfectly reasonable circumstances

Problem is, my HOLISTIC stance on the matter is formed
by looking at ALL the facts.

Yours is colored by simply not liking Mayweather.

Anyone would bet on me.

*sigh*

I specifically said "I do not know if he beat his wife or not" in the very comment you are responding to.

He plead guilty. The idea that he did it to spare his kids a trial is not something that I find convincing. If you do, so be it. I have no idea if he did it or not, nor am I especially concerned about it. Dude is doing 90 days.

The only assertion I made in this entire thread is that I think Floyd is justified in asking to be put into Gen Pop or given some other accomodations that do not force him into 23 hour a day solitary confinement.

Anyway, continue with whatever insane agenda you are on to prove the agendas of others and make sure to use the word "mad" wherever possible. You are the Glenn Beck of this board. Congrats.

"He's still a wifebeater though, so lol @ pleas for "house arrest" after 13 days."

That you?

So which is it -- do you think he beat his wife or not?

Because before you said he was.

Now you're saying you don't know.

I mean, admitting you were wrong would probably be
a real ass dude thing to do up in here.

>He plead guilty. The idea that he did it to spare his kids a

Of course you don't. You don't have a reason to not find
it convincing, though. You're just making shit up to
support your feelings.

I create my opinion out of collecting all the facts
and evidence.

If you do, so

Context is everything, my friend.

That post is entirely about his legal right to question the terms of his confinement.

Then at the end I point out that as a "wifebeater", which he legally was the second he pleaded guilty, he can forget about house arrest in his luxurious mansion.

Of course, that doesn't mean such a thing is true with the many times folks pleed guilty & they was as innocent as can be, but until proven otherwise - folks pleading guilty will be seen as just that under law & as such be treated as guilty by any judge or court hammering out the sentence.

I mean, I understand the prison board is trying to keep their name out the headlines for being the prison where some cat went HAM on Floyd, but this is beyond "protecting" a high-profile prisoner.

That is what he and his representatives are saying repeatedly in the article. That the state is holding him in a capacity not befitting his crime and that he is not afforded the benefits of the regular prison population. They are using this state of affairs to contend that either the state afford him the same rights as other inmates or admit that they do not have the wherewithal to do so and let him finish out under house arrest.

Whether Floyd really wants to be in Gen Pop or this is just a gambit at getting released, who knows?

But he is not in Pelican Bay. He is doing 90 days in some nondescript facility. It is not unreasonable for him to think that he might be fine in Gen Pop. Nor is it unlikely to presume that the current terms of his confinement are more about reducing headaches for the staff and potential exposure for the facility, than it is about making sure Floyd is safe.

The difficulty of their job need not NECESSARILY supersede Mayweather's rights. Or they would just put everyone in solitary confinement and feed them bread and water.

Also, by drawing those comparisons they are implicitly daring the authorities to move him to Gen Pop. Also, I doubt Floyd is really that scared. Like I said, he is not at Pelican Bay or anything.

And here is the specific request that I inferred:

Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa made no immediate ruling Tuesday on an emergency motion asking the court to move Mayweather into the general jail population -- something that jail officials had avoided out of fear for the celebrity's safety -- or put him in house arrest for the rest of his three-month sentence.

And there isn't conclusive evidence either way....he took the plea deal. He should have to serve the sentence as given. It'd be extremely unfair for a judge to say oh yea we'll put you on house arrest now because you threatened never to fight again. With that said I don't know about all the woman and children crusading without knowing if he really did it either....but him saying if you don't do this for me, I won't fight again is childish.

I've seen teenagers IRL with a broken leg, post-surgery, type-2 diabetes, PREGNANT do their time...you know...REAL health conditions.

He committed a DOMESTIC crime and his solution is not to be taken away from that family/community he's a threat to...but to be reunited with it.

Okay, player.

i gave 4 examples in jail i've seen in real life:

-teen w/ a broken leg
-teen post-surgery (car accident)
-teen girl w/ type-2 diabetes (3-4 insulin shots per day)
-teen girl pregnant

those are REAL health concerns...matter of life or death...and they ALL did more than 87 days. the post-op kid did 9 months with broken ribs. he got bigger and stronger in jail.

Floyd should do his time in jail. period. it's county jail, not fed or state prison. those CO's chose to put him in lockdown not for his safety...but because it's a controlled environment. if you put floyd in gen pop, the institution will lose control of the environment, which makes the job harder.

then again like discussed above, maybe he's not asking for it. maybe his lawyers are just doing their job and doing whatever they can for floyd...but i'm positive it was floyd that wrote the grievance.

...you have to be treated fairly...

If they can't afford him the same rights and privileges that are due the other inmates then the house arrest deal is extreme but a rational conclusion that can be drawn from this...

I say let him go to Gen pop if he's asking...

"Inspectah Deck, he's like...he's like that dude thatta sit back and watch you play yourself and all that right? And see you sit there and know you lyin; and he'll take you to court after that, cuz he the Inspectah."

In response to Reply # 79

floyd could eat. he just doesn't want to cuz the food sucks. i don't blame him. but he CAN eat. plus there are vending machines.

PLUS...the dude doesn't have this excellent diet. he was eating pollo loco on 24/7. dude basicaly brags that he eats like shit and doesn't have to diet.

and his body/career is not in jeopardy because he can't train like he usually does. that's bullshit. mike tyson spent 3 years in prison.

floyd is just being a bitch like we all know he is. typical loud ass motherfucker with no balls. i know jail sucks. but fkn man up and do your time homie.

The only thing I will say is if Son-Son gets to work out as he usually does then he won't have any choice but to eat...

23 hour lockdown and 1 hour rec time is crippling to someone with workout habits like that. Calisthenics and Isometrics can only go so far...

The only thing I'm addressing is that his retainers asked him to be treated like everyone else there or place him under house arrest if they can't afford him the same privileges as every other prisoner...

was just commenting on your point. i don't see why he shouldn't be allowed in GP. other than his safety could end up in jeopardy.

but ya, as far as his diet, etc. he's getting the same treatment as other inmates. i mean, no doubt jail is a shock to his system, mentally and physically. i'd def go crazy in 23 hour confinement.

his doc and team are making out to be like he's under some inhumane condidtions. which i disagree with. it's fkn jail.

In response to Reply # 83

We are agreed that dude has to serve his time.

I'm assuming that 1 hour isn't enough rec time.

If dude gets to work out like normal...or...what's regarded as normal for everyone else in the facility then his appetite will increase naturally and he'll have no choice but to partake in the food he's refusing now..

Dude must be depressed....Shit....doing a week is that bullshit but oh well....he copped to the wrongdoing..

I dunno man... I mean you can only eat so many candy bars and energy bars.. He's gonna have to either eat or starve at some point. Him refusing food is on him....

I'm just saying that the emphasis of his perceived treatment seemed to have shifted definitively to the gen pop request...all that other shit is window dressing in his appeal... All the facility has to do is prove they are treating him the same as all the other inmates.. Seems to me he is more concerned about moving around more freely in there rather than doing "coffin stretches" in the box..

Why else would his retainers request gen pop for him? Logically, they would fulfill that request first....but the facility's concern is that they "need" to keep him safe as they do for every other prisoner but may be ill-equipped due to the polarizing nature of his celebrity... If they prove they can't handle his security in gen pop they could always transfer him to a reduced security installment...

...essentially a "white collar" crime facility where the incidence of violence is less likely.

...but what does that say about the facility??? Will it turn into a situation where they conceivably have to "save face"??

His lawyers are just doing their job and are applying leverage and legal pressure...

Oh well....he gone have to deal wit what he deal wit...

him showing that off is probably an indication he DOES diet most of the time.
at his activity level he can eat some takeout from time to time and not be affected.

Judge Rejects Mayweather's House Arrest Request
Posted by: TMZ on 6/13/2012 .

Floyd Mayweather Jr. just had his recent motion rejected by a Nevada judge ... who scoffed at the boxer's claim he is withering away in jail. Floyd had begged the court to let him finish out his sentence for domestic violence on house arrest ... because he's dehydrated and malnourished and it's taking a toll on his body and putting his boxing career in jeopardy.

But moments ago, a judge DENIED Mayweather's request -- ordering him to serve out the remainder of his 3-month sentence behind bars.

According to court docs obtained by TMZ, the judge disputed Mayweather's claim that he's dehydrated behind bars -- saying the boxer's condition is "self-induced as water is made available to twenty-four hours a day."

As for Floyd's gripe that he's only consuming a fraction of the calories he needs -- the judge says it's because " chooses not to eat the food provided."

The judge also balked at Floyd's complaint that he can't train at a world class level while serving his time -- saying, "While the training areas and times provided to Floyd may not be consistent with his prior regimen, he is indeed provided sufficient space and time for physical activity if he so chooses."

(who he paid handsomely) are trying to help expedite that process.

All sounds fairly standard-issue to me.

If I happen to be in prison, I'm trying to use any advantage and/or resource I have to get out of that motherfucka quick, whether I'm scheduled to be there 90 days or 90 years.

Floyd needs to just accept the 60 days - it'll be up before he can know it.

He shouldn't let anything bother him and just go into an introverted focus - do his
prison workouts, and come out hungrier/stronger/wiser because of it.

stop this hollywood attorney bullshit.
