for a DUI In spring training when he was found ASLEEP at the wheel in the middle on an intersection, because it happened at spring training it wasn't that big of a story at first and they tried to downplay it a little but then a little more than a month later Josh Hancock was killed driving drunk leaving a game and investigation of that shed light on a pattern of reckless behavior by Hancock and and others and made it look like the whole team was out of control.

Because Hancock was a middle reliever I guess it wasn't a huge story nationally but it was a big deal here.

used be known as a drunk and it was always kind a running joke among Cardinal fans that Shannon was usually drunk during broadcasts by the 7th inning and his longtime partner Jack Buck used to have to keep him on course. I think he's slowed down recently due to age/health reasons plus all the negative pub from the fallout of the Hancock incident. Shannon owns a popular restaurant in town a block away from the stadium and I believe they provided the alcohol in the clubhouse when Hancock was killed.

This just shows you how super-human professional athletes are. Most people who level out at .24 either die or end up planking, face-down, in somebody's front yard for like 9 hours.

And above .3 is where death becomes a possibility for some. At least that's what I remember being told when we played "closest to death" at Duke.

So even though it's not "death" BAC... it's pretty damn close to "totally incapacitated" BAC.

http://askville.amazon.com/drinking-alcohol-range-blood-level-326/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=1590602

For a guy of his size, looks like each drink adds .02 to his total.

.01 gets subtracted every 40 minutes, so 3 more drinks within half an hour would have put his life in danger. That sounds like a lot in a short amount of time, but based on the chart, he had already had more than 10 drinks.

Regardless, it's an incredibly stupid thing to do.

at least 10+ shots of patron plus a random beer here and there, I blacked out, I woke up in some random vehicle in a parking lot a few blocks from where I live, to this day I have no idea who's car it was or how I got there. Needless to say I sharply curtailed my drinking activities after that.

I can't even remotely drink like I used to back then, but when I was 21 and fresh out of school, I could have blown a .24 and been at least semi-functional.
