Have to think he'll completely avoid Lillard on the defensive end since he'd be a huge liability and could possibly sap himself to run those screens he sometimes relies on to get open shots.

narrative. Their playing who they drew. Fuck else are they supposed to do? Not like everyone else is running through powerhouses. Rockets - 41 wins, Portland - 44 wins, Pistons - 44 wins, Hawks - 48 wins. The 8th seed in the East had the same record as the 5th seed in the West.

Now people are shitting on everyone just because a really good team has peaked at the right time

I wil continue to say tho that the Cavs toughest test in the East was already behind them before they played the Hawks. ATL-CLE had 27 lead changes in the series. DET-CLE had 54 (!) and we showed a lot more dog than the Hawks did.

My point is CLE has the top player in the conference and 3 of the top 15 players in the conference on their team. Not really shocked by this so far. Atlanta has a cute little team but cmon. Plus Detroit is young and emerging but cmon they're too young to pose a real threat. Also, look at the Toronto/Miami series... eh.

I see a lot of solid teams and one really good team in the east... CLE.

>shocked by this so far.

Me neither. I called 4-4-4 right after the DET series ended, but thats based on CLE right now, not the East. The only reason i wouldnt have expected 4-4-4 before the offs was that I didnt think there was any way we would get swept. Kyrie shooting 56% from deep killed that thought.

>Atlanta has a cute little team but
>cmon.

And the Blazers? Are we using the Blazers win to prop up GSW? Has Portland earned that?

>Plus Detroit is young and emerging but cmon they're too
>young to pose a real threat.

Too young to pose a real threat to Cleveland, GSW, SAC, or OKC. But better than the rest of the league by the end of the season. You and I both know that pre-/post- Tobias, the Pistons are two different teams. Team A was an upstart, Team B is a team with everything but experience and a couple competant backups.

>Also, look at the Toronto/Miami
>series... eh.

What should I be looking at? A 2x champion winning a gut check game on the road against a 56 win team? Teams get lucky and win ~45 every now and then, but no one backs their way into flirting with 60. Wade is shooting 49/60/85 against good defenders and we're using it to knock ppl? Not buying it.

>I see a lot of solid teams and one really good team in the
>east... CLE.

I see 3 really good teams in the West, a midlevel gatekeeper (LAC) and then bleh.

TOR, MIA, DET, and ATL are all between OKC-LAC

He's pretty much the only consistently meaningful player off the bench for the Cavs, at least on the offensive end.

Also interesting if the Warrior decide to go big against the Cavs since the Warriors have the better bigs, at least on paper since it appears Mozgov went into hibernation mode in terms of his caliber of play.

and the Warriors are much deeper than the Cavs.

That's assuming of course Steph is fully 100% if/when the Warriors reach the Finals of course.

Crazy to think the Warriors will have the better bigs than Cleveland though, given how many highly paid fowards the Cavs have.

Green came with the 7 blocks, the 3s, the monster dunks, and big shots from the line. Klay hit his clutch 3s and jumpers. Hats off to both.

But this?

The sheer release time alone?

It's not like he's taking the same shots and making them at a slightly better clip. He consistently makes shots that no one else can dream of attempting with any regularity.

But I don't think it's unreasonable to want more longevity to put him in GOAT for overall best shooter. This is his second or third season where he's shooting at a crazy level, correct? What he's doing is insane, but I think two to three seasons is a bit low to put him in GOAT status.

But I think he needs more than the two or three seasons he's been shooting at this level to be called the Greatest Shooter Of All Time. Calling him the greatest shooter based off of two or three seasons seems a bit rushed to me.

have you ever seen a better shooter than him?

and Curry has been doing in for more than a couple of seasons: he shot 44% from 3 his first 2 seasons in the league; he broke the single season 3 point record four years ago and has led the league in 3 point shots for the past 4 seasons, breaking his own record last year and then again this year. He set the record with 402 three pointers made this year; nobody else has even made 300 in a season. The record he broke 4 years ago was 269 by Ray Allen; Ray shot 41% from 3 when he set that record, Curry shot 45% when he broke it in 2013 and 45% this year when he surpassed it by 133. So he surpassed Ray's old record by 33% this year while shooting 4 points higher than him. He's 2nd all-time in career 3pt% to Kerr, who was a catch & shoot specialist, and Curry already has twice as many 3 pointers made than him. And to top it off, he's led the league in FT shooting 3 times, is one of only 3 players ever with a career FT% over 90% and is .002 points from Nash as the best FT shooter ever.

He's established enough of a track record to qualify for Greatest Shooter Of All Time status.

now it's just a matter of seeing how high up on the GOAT charts he can go cause if he close this season out as expected he's already better than Lebron imo.

this is a very narrow point, but I'm not sure he's the best shooter of all time. if you gave guys like ray allen a rack of balls in an empty gym, they may make more than steph. what makes steph crazy is the handles that give him a millimeter of space and the release to make that millimeter matter.

but, again, that's splitting hairs and i'm not saying anything new.

The degree of difficulty of beating an NBA defender is much harder than shooting a rack of basketballs in an empty gym.

The only argument I see against Steph right now is his lack on longevity in terms of GOAT shooters.

Yep. He'll have to continue the pace for some time before I'd definitively call him the best shooter of all time, for sure. But his peak (now) is better than either Ray's or Reggie's, IMO.

Off the dribble on the right or left hand, step back either hand, off a screen either hand, set off the ball, curling off the ball, etc.

The key is that his form never changes, it's always the same upper body motor pattern every single time (and 95% of the time, unless he's forced to alter, it's the same lower body setup every single time as well)...the way he gets more distance on the shot is by increasing the force of his wrist flick rather than altering his mechanics/motor pattern like we see so many other players do.

I mean, the quickness with which he gets the ball up into shooting form and snaps his wrist? The fastest basketball players in the world are trying to figure out how to defend it. That kind of thing boggles my mind. Like, I understand that one can explain from a scientific perspective how he does it... but the fact that every defender in the world is trying to figure out how to defend it from a scientific perspective and THE COLLECTIVE HAS STILL COME UP EMPTY. Like... how is that fucking possible?!

Dude just blows me away. It's such a pleasure watching him play. I'm gonna tell my fucking grandkids about this run he's on, and even though the Warriors don't have a Duke player on the roster, I still fucking pray this run continues, because it's just such beautiful basketball. Any time the sport I've watched way too much of for damn near a quarter century leaves me scratching my head, you know it's a special special time.

is because the other guys that are mentioned as the greatest shooters of all time, such as Larry Bird, Reggie Miller, Ray Allen, and so on had stellar shooting careers longer than two or three seasons. Seems reasonable to me to hold Steph to the same standards they had to uphold before getting mentioned in as the best of all time.

don't even trying to bring that longevity shit in here. haha.

how can you compare something he did in 2 years that it took Larry 15 years or whatever to do? YOU CAN'T.

the reason you can't? put it this way. Curry is already 19th in career made threes. if he just has ONE more season like this? he moves from 19th to 5th. he's not just making a steady climb up the record books, he's literally jumping to the front of the line.

Steph takes more 3s, makes more 3s, has won 2 MVPs and a title on the strength of his shooting, and the 6 years of his career are a FAR better stretch than any shooting stretch Reggie or Ray had. These are not debatable.

The only argument anyone can make is "but see where he's at after 18 seasons tho!" And when that's the *only* argument on the table, it reveals what a massive stretch it requires to make that the cornerstone of your argument.

My argument against longevity: When Steph has achieved, on the strength of his shooting, better All-NBA honors, two MVPs, a title while leading his team in scoring, and all before the age of 28, any argument *for* Reggie or Ray would come with extreme caveats. You'd literally have to say, "My pick is Reggie (or Ray), because, although Steph was obviously a much better shooter for a six-year span than my choice, I am making my choice based on achievement over time rather than height of achievement." If you don't voice that caveat, then literally whomever you said it to would chime in, "What about Steph tho? He was obviously better."

And again, this isn't a diss to Reggie or Ray. Steph has just been *that much better.* He's shooting over 44% while making over 3 3-pointers per game over a SIX-YEAR SPAN. That's absolutely ludicrous.

Steph has shot over 42% from 3 every year of his career (6 full seasons + 1 injury-shortened season); Bird shot over 42% only twice, and Steph has already made over 900 more 3's than Bird did in his career; Reggie shot over 42% three times, and Ray did it 5 times. And Curry is making those percentages while shooting a much higher volume of 3's than they did: Reggie made over 200 threes once, Steph has done it the past 4 seasons. Ray made 200+ threes 5 times in 18 seasons, setting the single-season record with 269 shooting at 41.2%; Curry broke that record four years ago, then broke his own record last year, and then again this year with 402. Nobody else has ever made 300, and he surpassed the old record by 133 (!) while shooting 45.4%, so he has topped Ray's record by 33% while shooting over 4 points higher.

Steph's been a stellar shooter for his entire 7 year career, and over the past 4 seasons (not 2 or 3; again, he broke the single season 3 point record 4 years ago) he has surpassed anything those guys ever did as a shooter.

I sill am in the boat of wanting to see more dominance from Steph since anointing him the best shooter in the history of the game feels reactionary. I don't dislike Steph or lobby heavily for one individual player; I have think high standards should be held to dub someone the best in the history of something when all the accolades he's currently getting feels as if its because dude is currently visible while past players are forgotten since they aren't presently playing.

In response to Reply # 91

thru mad screens, having his feet at just the right angle, catching with hands on him and getting the ball off mad quick is on the level of reggie and ray allen, who were phenomenal, and, respectively, the best in history at doing THAT.

but then his beat you off the dribble game, making space, and getting his looks, for dolo game is surreal. there has simply never been as pure of a jumpshooter w/ the handles, quickness and knack for getting that millimeter of space as steph.

and this is just discussion of him as a shooter. AI was ridic as a finisher and, 4 inches shorter, and would bang on 7 footers like it wasn't shit.

but the work steph put in over the last two seasons to improve his efficiency in the paint, man... shit is unreal. he might float, might reverse, either hand, underhand, overhand, draw contact, avoid contact... that plus his stupid passing ability (cross body, with either hand, to ANY point on the court) would make him an all-star even if his jumper was broke.

ie, rondo type.

but when you add to all of that that this fool's jumper is the definition of wet, and that he got whole squads altering their defensive fundamentals, tryna d him up 40 feet from the basket, everybody helping, everybody closing out, it is something i'm comfortable to say we've never seen.

Jordan rules were hot in the skreets for a minute. teams were terrified of mj slicing through the lane. teams are absolutely TERRIFIED of steph being open 3, 4, 5 feet behind the line, and adjust their entire defense to try and take that away.

peace & blessings,

from 'athlete' guard to pure shooter.

that was, from what i could see, a recognition of what he needed to have longevity in the league AND the result of maniacal, kobe-type determination, WORK and dedication to his craft. 3 hr shootarounds before every game when you already the best 3 pt shooter ever type shit.

w/ his handles and brilliance for finishing, kyrie got the tools. but turning into that upper upper echelon shooter is something that, at least theoretically, everybody has the opportunity to do, but hardly anybody really *does*.

kyrie w/ steph's j would be sickness, however.

i actually think dame closer. dude shoot his ass off and will shake the shit outta you.

can you imagine how ill the league will be when EVERYBODY (well, 10% of squads) is shooting like that?

Lillard is a streaky shooter & not as good a finisher nor ball handler in tight spaces. Lillard to me is a rich man's Nick Van Exel.

In response to Reply # 0

during the discussion of the OKC/SAN game 2 inbounds play

it was said that contact with the inbounder and/or the ball

is a tech

just asking, I thought Dray trying to steal the ball while out of bounds was a tech

?

anyway, Steph is back, and this series is a wrap

if he stays healthy, just hand them the trophy

the other, i think a timeout had been called, but the ball was dead for a while. both players interfered with each other's ability to play. this play, he just scored, and the ball is inbounded. Dray doesn't interfere with the player, but grabs the ball, which is in play, although it looked like he was still out of bounds or not legally inbounds. if he had been inbounds, it would have been Warriors ball.

If Manu had hit the ball and/or Dion on that play = Tech

If the reasoning for the Dray play not being a tech is that he was out of bounds

I think you can see the failure in that logic

at least should have been a delay of game

base, I found it very strange that it was just a play on

seriously, no agenda, but with all that transpired in that game with techs

and the OKC/SAN game, a play on was least expected.

if you do that, delay of game or tech. if you don't, keep playing. for me, Dray didn't impede the passer. but this is just my opinion. the rules might be different.

niggas can't tell me livingston got ejected on his own accord. he took the proverbial pinch as a proxy for green, who had been talking 10x more shit to the stripes the last couple games than light-skinned livingston has ever said in his entire career.

incidentally it called for curry playing more minutes than he would have and winning the game, so i guess it's moot.

It was weird, I wasn't like hanging on the edge of my seat and shouting OHHHHH! every time he made a shot. He is so smooth shooting the ball that it almost seems automatic and it feels surreal.

The thing that impressed me were the first couple of twos, the pull-up and the put-back. Also it's crazy how they run these little nothing plays--handoffs, rubs, flip-backs, etc--and they turn into great shots because he is such a great shooter. It reminds me of a video game but not a basketball video game, it reminds me of Barry Sanders in the original Madden games. A simple toss play and you were getting 20 to 40 yards on the regular. That's how I feel watching Steph operate around the arch.

He also has this thing, a certain energy, like with maybe 4:30 left and he had a play in the corner where he faked, went under a defender and hit a trey. I could tell from when he came down from the fake that he was going to make the shot just looking at his body language. Just an incredible player, great shooter ever, as if there were any debate before last night.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
