The sadness of the howling wind awakes me
Slowly I rise from my warm bed and my beloved
I walk to the door that opens to my wintered garden
And see guardians from my past aglow in the full moon night
Zephyr a Martial Eagle and Dove the Grey Wolf
Travelers from another time and space


78 years, 9 months and 2 days have passed since our first encounter
When mother surrendered to the spirit of death I was 14 years old
Zephyr and Dove found me awake in a dream
Zephyr with a wingspan of six feet was my comfort from the trauma that broke my heart
And Dove protected me from predators lurking in the dark places of my mind

Longing to be in the company of their wild yet quiet nature
Their visit brings no surprise
As my beloved of fifty years has been with illness many years
And has tired of life
Tonight the spirit of death no longer dances in the shadows
And I have no fear
As my guardians Zephyr and Dove will comfort and protect me again
