It started off interesting and then it just got slow and that keep going. I had no real buy-in with any of the characters. I'm going to try and finish it this weekend and see how things go from there.

They could have delved deep into the "men with a code" get turned by the need for money after sacrificing for their country. They just made it a generic film that didnt say anything.

Seems like they could've gone more into the men of code doing bad things for Country who are now doing bad things for the need of money. I thought that's where it would go with them trying to get the money out and having the cartel after them.
The village scene is the closest we get to that and honestly, they should've had more scenes of the team comprising themselves to do what they believe is the right thing by Redfly (Affleck).
Not the greatest flick at all but I figure it'll go cult status one day just from the visuals, strong performance by Affleck and the Soundtrack. Lars Ulrich did the sound and made excellent use of old Metallica.

nondescript and surprisingly trope-y for Chandor. not offensively bad, but best summarized as a "Netflix movie", albeit not in the way Netflix would prefer.
although I approve of any media vehicle that gets Adria Arjona more work.

watched it last night with my brother and his wife and we were all dying at how bad the dialogue and pacing of this movie was
way to make me not give a shit about any of the characters, even though i'm a fan of most of the actors
the acting felt like they were just reading a script. no character building at all. how did they pull off the heist so (relatively) easily? it was so stupid. Lorea is just hiding in his safe the whole time and gets popped in a second after opening the door? why should I even give a damn about Lorea - all he did was scowl at the snitch/accountant girl. he looked like your average street thug extra in any generic drug movie.
and all that unnecessary talking. like shut the fuck up and rob the place. they talked and narrated literally everything they were doing while tearing the walls apart. i was just hoping the noise would attract a nosy maid who somehow went undetected and she launched a grenade into the room.
then the whole scene with the helicopter and saying the word "Andes" like 100 times. YES we know you are not gonna make it over the Andes. shut the fuck up about it.
oh and the entire time on the mountain, my sister-in-law was like "why dont they just bury the money somewhere and come back in like 3 years when shit dies down and pick it up? i'm sure they can wait 3 years for a $200 million payout." and then the very last scene, Charlie Hunnam's character just happens to hand off a piece of paper to the piece of shit Oscar Isaac character that has the coordinates on it and he disappears into the crowd. really? REALLY? goddamn.

there are premises of an interesting movie about male violence, money and imperialism, but in the end it's just an archaic bro-down with not enough cool action scenes (really well shot though). And I'm mad Ben Affleck was the best out of these actors, while Oscar Isaac was uncharacteristically bland.
Chandor's next project is a TV series called The Connection that seems related to The French Connection. Hopefully he does something really good to recover from this mess
