"Vox Lux (2018, Brady Corbet)"

The first half, focused on how Portman's character came to fame, is very promising, with Corbet interested in some of the more off-kilter and menacing sides of life that he is known for in his acting career. It's ambitiously shot, and never more so than in the second half when Portman finally makes her appearance, but sadly that's when the movie loses focus, dwelling in the sad VH1 biopicy side of her story. The foundation of what made her a pop star is fascinating, yet Corbet seems content with just exploring how fake Top 40 stardom is. Too bad because the songs, written by Sia, are really good on their own, and probably deserved a more expansive conclusion than what is offered

For the record, my teams:
MLB: Mets / Soccer: PSG
NCAA BB: Arizona / NCAA FB: Michigan
NBA: Spurs / NFL: Jets
