"The Hate U Give (George Tillman Jr., 2018)"

This shit might be my favorite movie of the year (so far).

This is a powerhouse and so much hit me. It's a bit too Hollywood at times, but I love this.

Support black cinema.

I didn't read the book. Didn't fully know what to expect. Was a bit skeptical of the Amandla casting. And she fucking killed it. Everybody did, but her and Russell Hornsby were outstanding. I cried multiple times. The theater was nowhere near full when I went and I'd kind of like to see it again with a packed crowd...but maybe not.

I agree a couple parts were kinda over the top but yea overall.....this movie deserves everything.

I was looking at the taxi ad for this movie this morning and peeped in the title THUG is highlighted. That's a 2Pac quote for how he explained THUG LIFE. I gotta peep this. Might go Friday.

the trailer made it look like it was going to be way too telegraphed. especially the brush scene, but seeing the whole scene it works better

Originally bought it for my 13 y.o daughter who had no interest in reading it. She normally reads two or three books at a time, except for this one. She couldn’t put it down and said it was really good. As a 40+ year old who normally doesn’t read young adult books, I enjoyed the book too. Taking the family to see it this weekend. Hope it doesn’t disappoint.

(SPOILER ALERT)

I felt like they played up the snitching/gang situation. Certainly the police would have known about them prior to her snitching. Even after she snitched, it doesn't seem like 12 was really after the gang like that. King didn't even get arrested until he acted out of vengeance
