"Favorite Use of Diegetic Music in a Film"

I love this use of the extended version of Cymande's Bra in 25th hour.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEgusUhWP3Y

The song carries you through the whole transition and thought process of PSH's Character.

It reminds me alot of this other great use of a song to show the internal thinking of a character. The Jesse's Girl Scene in Boogie Nights (and the 99 red ballons that follows).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZRzeUrVy1o

the 80s rock helps ratchet the tempo up.

What you got?

classic. Godard can be full of shit sometimes, but scenes like this made me watch most of his filmography.

But I feel like I've seen a lot of scenes in other things that must have been influenced by this scene.

But I like it when posters get geeky and use film terminology.

Typing in, 'music that exists in the setting the character inhabits' is clunky. Plus we're all film heads in here. Jargon's fine.

The main character walks into a room which is mysteriously decorated with grafitti. White Rabbit plays in the background.

I had to look up what this was.

I thought the recent sharp objects miniseries did this excellently. All the scenes where she's driving around playing cassettes from high school were perfect, and the songs cutting off whenever she arrives somewhere add to the effect.

It was essential to the film for the car scenes.

Been a while since I've watched Eyes Wide Shut. Think I'll have to try and hunt it down this weekend to see if it holds up.

funny, i was just thinking of that movie in relation to this topic but not that scene. i rewatched this just last month and was struck by the opening of tom and nicole getting ready to go out while this great classical music plays, not out of place in a kubrick movie but not typically used in a diagetic sense. after a few minutes, tom turns off the stereo, revealing this is what the character actually listens to.
