"Marvel's 10th Anniversary Film Festival in IMAX "
My boss told me to take the day off yesterday, so I went to go see Iron Man since roughly 30 to 40 minutes was specially formatted for IMAX.
Holy shit does that movie hold except for the CGI. And the stuff formatted for IMAX is incredible. I forgot how well shot that movie is (gonna have to look up the DP).
Since the theatre was empty and no one gave a fuck, I stuck around for Incredible Hulk which was not as bad as I remembered, but just a middle of the road IMAX movie. Since it's the first time it was being shown in IMAX.
Then since no one at that theater really gave a fuck, I stuck around for Iron Man 2. Man, I forgot how much of a mess that movie is. There's so much going on. Whiplash is the heavy but is sidelined for most of the movie despite that dope ass racetrack fight and the final fight. Justin Hammer is a low-rent version of Lex Luthor, but cotdamn does Sam Rockwell kill it.
Natasha is really an afterthought. Nick Fury and Coulson showing up just to set up the Avengers and help Tony get the Triangle in his chest is...sloppy.
Tony is really such an asshole in this film it's hard to root for him in his own movie that reminds me of another superhero movie. They clearly wanted to do the "Demon in a Bottle" storyline, but couldn't.
But Tony vs. the government was done so much better throughout the film, including him versus his best friend, than the obvious comic book film that wanted to be taken seriously.
What makes Iron Man 2 so frustrating is that all of these storylines are very strong, it was just too much for one movie. But it's highs are fucking high. Plus War Machine!!!
I left after that cause I was getting sleepy and I wasn't trying to see Thor in 3D (I saw it in 3D my first time and the 3D was garbage). Plus I didn't want to blow my cover with asking for 3D glasses.
I was thinking about doing Cap 1 today cause it's the first time it's being shown in IMAX, but I figured I could get my laundry done today. Plus, I'm gonna get super high on Sunday and do Doctor Strange again in IMAX 3D.
