"Things in Movies that are Integral to the Plot, but Never Explained"
Thu Aug-23-18 01:20 PM by KiloMcG

this is inspired by a GD post discussing whether Craig actually stole those boxes on his day off.

but what others exist? it may be things everyone agrees were never explained, or things that maybe you just missed and someone can explain it for us.

i'll start...

But like Longo said, part of the theory revolves around the Band-Aid on the neck, which again, was just used to cover up a scar.

And it's kind of a stretch for a movie that doesn't really play with fantastic realism.

Robet Deniro's character is only slightly explained, although it's more clear if you've watched the extras.

An entire district was drugged by Scarecrow in Batman Begins and it never gets brought up for the rest of the trilogy. WTF happened to those people? Are they still drugged out of their minds? Do they have any contact with Gotham City outside of their island?

I feel like an entire set of stories could be told just off that alone.

Where does the Joker go after Batman and Rachel fall off the balcony in the Harvey Dent campaign party scene? That will always bother me, but the movie is entertaining enough that I let it go.

After that, it gets pretty nitpicky. I get why people didn't like TDKR, but him leaving the pit and showing up in Gotham is a complete Batman move and people harped on that a LOT. If they showed him hopping on cargo boats and shit everyone would whine. Plus in BB he leaves Gotham with nothing, finds Ra's al Ghul, AND makes it back to Gotham with seemingly nothing, yet those folks tend to think it's the best movie in the series and never bring this up.

Great film with great acting, but the plot was basically incomprehensible due to the Film Code at the time. Moreover, even Raymond Chandler, the guy who wrote the book the movie was based on, couldn't remember who did what when asked about it later.

the briefcase in Pulp Fiction and getting it to Marsellis is kind of what sets in motion 2/3 of the movie.

I'd say it "matters" more because of a need to resolve that nagging mystery, but not necessarily to the degree that the story suffers as a result.

It could be along the lines of the MIB "galaxy", in that seems incredibly important, yet winds up something subjectively trivial.

We thought it was some serious shit, but it turned out to be a goddamned marble to some alien.

Kate from Lost robbed a bank for a toy airplane that held sentimental value, but was otherwise worthless to pretty much anyone else.

So the contents of that briefcase, for all we know, could be pretty much anything.

Certain things would be less interesting than others, to be sure, but overall it's moot because what happened, happened.

the classic Lost "gripe" is the polar bear. who gives a fuck?

i never understood peoples obsessions with the "mysteries" of the island. the "questions". did the end of the show suck due to circumstance (aka ABC forcing the writers to continue the show for too long; the fandom solving the mystery too early leaving the writers unable to outsmart themselves)? undoubtedly, yes, it was a let down. but the plot holes are more silly than they are vital to enjoying the show.

I, as millions of others too, was obsessed with lost. but i never felt a connection to the mysteries of the island. i just loved the emotional highs and lows and the ride. maybe im wrong, i dunno.
