"Bad Ben:The Mandela Effect (Amazon Prime)"

So,

Me and the kid were looking for something quick and "scary" to watch the other night. I generally don't like the "found footage" movies, but she does, and we found one that was just over an hour long, so we jumped in.

Now, mind you, we both love a good "bad" movie (Of course "The Room" is a family favorite, but we also love "Things", "The Killing of Satan", "The Worlds Greatest Sinner", "Bruce Lee Rises From His Grave"..you get it)

Maaaaan...this movie had us ROLLING!!!! A couple things didnt make sense to us off the gate, but after I found out it was the second part of a "Bad Ben" trilogy, I'm assuming the first part is crucial.

I saw a few different versions, but not the original Bad Ben.

Maybe I should just do like you and skip to this second one?

And the fact that dude is a middle-aged white guy, and not some 23 year old hipster with a camera makes it even more hilarious.

I enjoyed them. I have to finish the last movie tonight.

My favorite part is DEFINITELY the ending to the 2nd movie.

But what I love about these films is they really show you how the cast/central characters effect the overall tone and level of investment the audience will have. I mean it's basically just Paranormal Activity, but if you replace a young couple with this mostly boring middle aged dude, suddenly it is not scary AT ALL and is way more of a comedy about evil spirits or demons toying with this rando loser just for amusement.

There's a part in the first movie where main dude goes outside to check something, and the front door closes suddenly and locks on him. Instead of being freaked out or alarmed, dude just shouts out "OH, FUCK MY LIFE!" Cut scene.

I've gotten bored with found footage films, but these were ridiculously enjoyable. Thanks for the recommendation.

In the first one...

*The Fuck my life moment had us on the floor

*The whole "Look how powerful that AC is!!" part, when it was obvious it was someone messing with the blinds.

*When he got his ass kicked in the bed by Ben I almost spit all my beer out (and when did he stay walking around in his draws and a tshirt when he's basically battling ghosts? He shoulda stayed fight ready)

I think we're gonna try and finish the trilogy this weekend, then put the "prequel" on

Glad you found them as ridiculous as we did!

Not knowing about Steelmanville Road, I just went

Bad Ben
Bad Ben: Mandela Effect
Badder Ben: The Final Chapter

Not realizing that Mandela Effect was actually the last one, I didn't check imdb and just assumed that The Final Chapter was the last one. Oops.

So yeah, I saw that scene--that's what I meant above when I said it was my favorite part.

It was slipping into "where is this going?" territory, and then you get to that last scene. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a direct nod to Eddie Murphy's old haunted house standup bit, but it was really funny. Maybe my new favorite 'found footage' ending.

I'm laughing just thinking about it. Shit is like the true Groundhog Day of horror. After three movies of dude making clearly dumb choices and going down into the basement and up attics and following spooky voices, we get this. No exploration, no curiosity, dude gets back in his car and takes off. No creepy last shot, no final little 'gotcha'. He just straight hauls ass out of there, lol.

Damn! We really messed then, cause thats the one we watched first.

But with that ending, I guess it does make sense..

..and now that I think about it, I kept wondering how the doll got in the ground between (what I thought) was one and two...makes sense...

1. Bad Ben

2. Steelmanville Road (haven't watched this yet - it's the second movie that came out, but in the timeline it's a prequel to Bad Ben)

3. Badder Ben - The Final Chapter (I'm finishing this one tonight, it's the one with the 'film crew')

4. Bad Ben: Mandela Effect

LOL none of that shit really even matters though, does it? None of this really 'enhances the story'. You could probably start and stop with just one of these and still be good.

At most, maybe you can see the transition where the guy realizes that he's actually making comedies and not spooky paranormal films.

See...thats the part that kinda bothers me...I don't wanna see that happen. But you're right, none of it really matters at all, long as I can see Tim be a dumb ass, I'm good, lol

Okay the ending to that one was pretty great too.

I'm a 3/4th through Steelmanville Road. That one's honestly not so great. It's trying to play out like a straight, serious scary movie.

I could have done without Steelmanville Road, that one was just a bad Paranormal Activity/Rosemary's Baby knockoff, but the other three movies are GOLDEN.

I can honestly say that I'm a better human being for finding these movies.

Watched Badder Ben with the wife and the kid. It was the wifes first introduction, but me and the kid are seasoned.

When the attic door finally knocked him on his ass...then he went and fell down the stairs...we holla'd...loudly.

I almost wanna go back and watch them in proper order now.

I was thinking of getting my wife to watch these in order so I can watch them again (I watched them by myself the first time).

I can't decide which ending is better, the one to Badder Ben or Mandela Effect. Both had me cracking up.

The doc makers end up in the basement. When Tim came downstairs after the shower and saw that they were gone, I felt like thats when it really got going.

They splurged on the effects too!! LOL!!

Yeah, think imma have to go thru it again.

Question though...in the prequel, is thet where they show the doll geting buried?

But again, it's really not worth watching to put the pieces together. It's not funny, or good, and the main dude only shows up for a cameo.
