"Upgrade (Leigh Whannell, 2018)"

Loved it till the last five minutes.

It's amazing what was accomplished on such a small budget. The action here is ten times better directed and choreographed than most big budget blockbusters.

The score is dope as fuck too.

Betty Buckley sure does love doing Blumhouse movies.

To be fair, I didn’t know Gabriel’s been in others beyond Get Out, lol. I read your post and actually looked it up, thinking “shit, Betty Buckley got some work done?” haha

But regardless, great fucking movie. I hope it has legs. It sold out on a Tuesday night in LA— that gives me hope.

Spoilers..

STEM locked Grey away, giving him a dream state that amounts to a Matrix-like false reality that he could accept so that STEM could retain control unchallenged. They took the "it was all a dream" ending and flipped it brilliantly if you ask me.

So STEM is controlling Grey's body, but Grey is still there, somewhere, in a dream state.

I'm curious what's not to love about this.

The lone critique I have is that the revelation comes without motivation. I would have liked a bit more exposition, particularly since the director made this film with zero plans on a sequel.

Apparently thats now in the works, but he said not to expect a sequel before it even hot theaters.

I thought the ending was cool, actually didn't see it coming
mainly because I was sucked in the world,
Fully established, little to no explanation, waiting to be discovered.
Definitely one of my fav action/scifi flicks this year.

missed it in theaters but wife bought the blu at Target on a whim last week, just watched it today.

Hell yeah!
yet another very well executed BH flick. I had so much fun with this one!

how did this one do in the theaters when it was out? i remember it was on my list as one to check out, but i never got around to going, and it slipped through the cracks. cant remember why...not sure if there were a lot of other movies out at the same time, or if i had life stuff going on, but dang, this was a ball! i hope it did well enough, cuz they pretty much executed this one to a T! its a keeper...

have you listened to

and apparently filmed in my hometown (i thought a stretch of the freeway looked familiar).

shit.was.dope.
the way the camera doesn't move during the action scenes.
the non-typical ending.
the world-building.
all A+.
