"Pacific Rim: Uprising (Steven S. DeKnight, 2017)"
Yo the trailer for this joint was dope in 3D. It looked to hit all the right notes except...
...it looks like Clint's son Scott aka Bland Eastwood is the secondary co-lead in this shit (My nigga John Boyega is the lead and producer on this shit). I really wish they'd stop giving this nigga roles b. He was one of the problems in Fate of the Furious (He was also forgettable in Suicide Squad and really fucking awful in Snowden).

It looked like the robots are fighting each other and then the monsters come back and they have to team up to fight a common enemy in the new monster threat.

I'm trying to avoid watching trailers online these days but yeah I caught that one at the theater.
You know, I'm one of the few that really didn't care for the first movie. I liked Idris Elba in it, because he's great in almost everything, but...I thought the monsters looked generic, and the robots kind of sucked. And the lead actor wasn't very memorable. It was sad because all I wanted was cool monsters wrecking shit and cool robots wrecking monsters, but this one left me cold. Especially disappointing from del Toro.
BUT
The trailer for this sequel actually has me interested again. I like John Boyega. The robots look much cooler. The monsters look slightly better. The only part that I'm skeptical of is Scott Eastwood as the lead, as he was by far the weakest part of The Fate of the Furious.

>They made this strickly for 10 - 12 year old kids. > >Shit is a two hour Saturday morning cartoon. > >It's like they took a old episode of Mighty Morphin' Power >Rangers and made it into a big budget movie.
weird criticism coming from someone who loved porgs in the last jedi

but this film was basically DOA.
Reduced budget showed on the screen in the worst ways. A lot of the battles just looked horrible in comparison to the predecessors and even the Transformers films. The sets were bland and forgettable. One of the underrated aspects of the original was that the world felt lived-in for the most part. Not here. You never get the sense that people are actually in those jaegers outside of maybe two or three scenes.
The way certain scenes were shot, the sense of scale and mayhem isn't really there. Battles here feel like video game battles instead of that kaiju feel (destruction everywhere, people in utter terror). Death and destruction did not matter as much in this film.
Having said that, I like the design of the final monster.
Plot was terrible. Boyega's character didn't have a full arc (IMHO). Charlie Day's bizarre character worked in the original but here he's just silly and whiny.
Score was about as eventful as the wind blowing....sounded like temp music that never was replaced.
Disappointing....Pacific Rim was my favorite movie from the summer of 2013 and this sequel is just not good enough. John Boyega could not save this movie. ---------------------------------------

The final battle might've been the least memorable.
There were literal 'oh shit' gasps in my audience when that one monster in the second fight spreaded its wings. ---------------------------------------
