I don't know even know what to say. I looks pretty stellar.

You're such pests...now, what is it you want? In your depths of your ignorance, what is it you want? Well, whatever it is you want, I can't deliver because I just don't see it. - Orson Welles

I guess the best thing I can say about this is that movie marketing can sometimes be very misleading and non-representative of the final product. But going strictly off the latest trailer, this looks...bland. Outside the diverse casting, it looks like a greatest hits compilation of every recent YA movie adaptation. It's hard for me to judge Oprah objectively, cuz I'm not a huge fan of her in general, but she just seems absurd here in that galactic spirit queen costume. And the smaller budget seems to really be showing in the CGI. Wish she wouldn't have relied so heavily on it.

I'll root for any black director but this looks like a skip.

I haven't read the book, but nothing was really there as far as substance.

Ava killed it visually but that's it.

This needed another ten minutes to sell the emotional beats that happen in the climax.

Admittedly, when I read the book as a kid, while I liked it, it didn't hit me the same way that other fantasy stories like Lord of the Rings.

But the trailer didn't do anything to raise the excitement.

You know there's something wrong when the only thing interesting about a movie trailer is Oprah's silver lipstick.

With Solo and Infinity War on the Horizon, this shit is not even on my radar right now.

Even though the trailers did nothing for me, really.

What I'm really waiting for is a Harriet Tubman biopic, starring Viola Davis that Ava needs to direct.

Read the book twice in the past few months to prep for the movie. I was underwhelmed. Visually pretty good but overall just not impressed. I'll post details later.

The ChloexHalle song KNOCKS though. And anything that produces new Sade I'm here for.

When you can leave in the middle of any movie and comeback after 5 to 10 minutes and have missed anything of importance, then somethings is not right. Its a movie for acid droppers and stoners.

I really do Love Joni!

I really wanted to like this move, but it was all over the place. Kinda felt like a movie of Oprah quotes. I found myself asking ‘how did we get here?’ several times.

Kids thought it was okay.

It's mostly a mess, but there are plenty of very nice moments that make it compelling enough to recommend, especially to those with families. The first 20 minutes are pretty rough in particular, but make it through to the back half and you'll be rewarded with some nice stuff.

Maybe if I was familiar with the source material I would have liked it more, but as it is I disliked it a lot.

I did like the makeup and costumes, everybody looked beautiful, but overall a pretty, vapid mess.

When I read A Wrinkle of Time (back in school) I envisioned a very dark film with only a few lighter moments.

I didn't really check in to the film until over an hour in when

(spoiler)

Charles Wallace gets taken. From there the movie picked up but never really hit its full stride. I hate that I left so disappointed. Like others in this post, I love Ava's work (including Queen Sugar) and I hope the critical and commercial reception to this film doesn't keep her from getting more big-budget films because she's really talented.

Scene of the film for me was that gorgeously colored scene with the Sade pumping.....I can't lie....there were some feels there.

SN: Who chose that DJ Khaled song at the end of the film?

That was such a bad choice for an end credit song. How does that film lead to a song that starts with 'Another One'.

took the kids and i have several specific "didn't likes":

- didn't like how self congratulatory it was. I have never seen a movie which was so pleased with itself for existing

- didn't like how "look" was more important than depth of story (this movie is a textbook embodiment of: "it looked great, but there was no there there")

- didn't like how the only Black man in the movie was ignorant (of his environment or of the pain of the child he was handling), self-consciously weak (the sad face which followed him seeing his peers ... the Black teacher and her white male cohort ... be less than supportive after he was made principal)

- didn't like how all the white males were preferred partners for the Black women, but even they were some combination of selfish, clueless, weak, and subordinate instead of actual partners

- the heavy-handedness of the worldview

i *did* like the spunkiness of the lead actress, but they gave her nothing to work with
