Wouldn't have guessed that.
Gonna probably wait on word of mouth for this one because this trailer didn't sell me but I don't want to watch more trailers and have all of the jokes ruined for me. The comedy conundrum.
It hits the expected jokes (the slow motion joke's kind of overdone IMO) but didn't really knock any of them out of the park.

Which means it will be terrible, but terribly funny. I'll catch it on a matinee

And funny thing was was that at that point I started thinking, "I thought the girl from Quantico was in this." and then it was like "THERE SHE IS!" Stunning.
If this shit was an hour and a half then cool. But it's two hours of shit that could've been subversive satire. They played it broad with this 21 Jump Street rip-off.
Jon Bass as Ronnie is the standout and when he's not on screen the movie lags. Everyone is killing it with what they got to work with, except for Zac Efron whose doing his tired dumb frat boy shtick.
This felt like 20 - 30 minute TV pilot stretched out to two hours. The music drops are numerous and the score is dubstep as well.
This is an HBO film. It feels forced as fuck with the R rating it got, but it's pleasing enough for general audiences to love that I wouldn't be surprised if this spawns a franchise.

Although The Disaster Artist could win him some critical love. But the Efron comeback has featured a majority of poorly received flicks. He does seem to have a foreign draw so he's not going anywhere but he needs his next leading man role to be a good movie.
