"The Edge of Seventeen (Kelly Fremon Craig, 2016)" Sun Nov-20-16 04:58 PM by Deebot
I went to the theater to see Arrival, ended up being sold out, so I went into this blind instead. This movie is fantastic! Grade A script...honest, sharp, and actually funny. Rated R so doesn't hold back. All of the acting is solid, and Woody Harrelson has a PERFECT role for his style. Need not be a 17 year old girl to enjoy or relate to this film. This could legitimately get a screenplay nom.

Between heavy work and the start of college basketball, this is the time of year where I usually fall irreparably behind despite seeing 3-5 movies a week. Fucking release schedules.

Insanely charming, very well-written and well-acted across the board, painfully honest and true. As someone who was essentially Woody Harrelson's character when I taught high school, this story hit me very close to home-- I knew a few of these kids. And Hayden Szeto as the love interest is probably the best love interest I've seen in a studio film in some time. He's fucking fantastic.

loved how this movie went in several unexpected directions. a couple of the major plot points played out like you'd expect, but the writing feels so damn real and the characters behave like actual humans... unlike most flicks where shit just happens to progress the plot.
beautiful performances all around. Steinfeld is a legit star. Woody is subtle and awesome in a role that could have easily been an eye roller with lesser writing.
this movie is simple and focused and smart and has some thought-provoking things to say about that nagging feeling we all have that we're the last ones on Earth who haven't got our shit together.
this will hit extra hard of you've gone through some life trauma with a sibling.
