"The Handmaiden (Park Chan-wook, 2016)"

Yo this shit might be my favorite film Park has done.

Park is a sick fuck and that doesn't change here either b.

I like how the story plays out in this film, than it does in the book it's based on.

Again, not for the faint of heart. My favorite foreign film of the year.

loved the structure of the script and the cinematography was beautiful, whether in day scenes or the darker quasi-nightmare ones. Hard to believe Tae-ri Kim had never acted in a movie before, but all of the 3 protagonists were top notch.

One of the 5 best movies I've seen this year (foreign or not)

MLB: Mets / Soccer: PSG
NCAA BB: Arizona / NCAA FB: Michigan
NBA: Spurs / NFL: Jets

While I had a vague idea of the general premise it was funnier and to be blunt, pornographic, then I expected. It also did a great job of keeping you guessing.

I can see why it fell under so many critical award radars due to the heavy sexual themes playing, but a gem of a movie. Easily top ten if not top 5 of last year

It's a movie about the male gaze, so it's not surprising that the sex scenes, while super intimate, also are very artfully staged. No full frontal, all very posed gestures shot from a distance or close-ups on faces. (I loved Blue Is The Warmest Color, but *that* was definitely more pornographically shot.)

The sex readings are obviously full-blown pornographic, but they're all more horror-comedy than they are titillation. All very compelling, needless to say.

Thought it was going one way and the film just made a hard left. It's hard to do that and not look crazy. It was a little long but I really liked this movie. Really nice visuals, funny, and def pornographic. This director continues to push the envelope in a way that works.

The Handmaid's Tale?
I watched the Handmaiden which was one of my favorite flicks on last year but did not recognize the Margaret Atwood's story in this one.

This might be my favorite of Park's films. I'm a little curious what the theatrical version cut out.

My only thing that I'm still a little undecided on is the acting for Uncle Kouzuki. The acting was over-the-top and cartoon-ish, which contrasted with the rest of the casts' performances. I mean, the guy obviously has a few screws loose, but I think I would have preferred a more subtle portrayal of someone that deranged.
