The much-anticipated project is going to have the sweet hip-hop sounds of A Tribe Called Quest accompanying the action on screen. Producer and Composer Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad have been working on the project for awhile now, along with their upcoming album The Midnight Hour.

Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker had this to say about the collaboration: “It’s very sophisticated. I mean, it’s got a ’90s hip-hop vibe, but it’s really forward-thinking. We have Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad doing the scoring for us."

Based on that RTJ remixed song that's in the trailer, my interest is quite piqued. I'm a fan of the group and I had no idea that song existed.

In response to Reply # 2

I bought it since the vinyl was colored mainly and also because I saw that Ali Shaheed Muhammad was involved. Also decided I wanted to give this a listen since this was the work that took him away from working on that recently released Tribe album.

The original on the soundtrack is pretty good for the most part. Some tracks work alone better than others, but there's plenty of tracks on the soundtrack, so I can't get too mad at some of the weaker material. The one aspect that gets annoying if the female chanting voice that reappears from time to time on some tracks. I have the feeling that was imparted by Adrian Younge since I've remembering hearing that same chanting voice on the Ghostface albums he worked on.

Where does the conflict/danger for this character come in? He got knocked out by that shotgun blast, so, could you drop him off a skyscraper and he'd die from the sudden impact still affecting his organs? I suppose some kind of poison is the easiest way to get to him?

Trailer is awesome and I wouldn't mind a 10 episode show of a guy throwing people through walls and listening to '90s hip-hop, but is Luke Cage essentially Black Superman without the flying and the lasers and the freeze breath or can he get got?

8. "you'd have to be on his strength level or higher"
In response to Reply # 7

to cause any significant damage. he has a healing factor so he can get hurt, you'd just have to be really strong (as per known MCU characters it'd have to be like Thor or Hulk level strength). his main enemies in the comics tend to be super strong similar to him. not sure how they'll tackle that in this show, but in the trailer Cottonmouth doesn't seem to be intimidated by Cage at all. maybe he's got super strength like his comic counterpart?? Cage can be poisoned and drowned and we saw in JJ that he can be mind controlled.

i'm guessing by the way they've been talking about the show and how he was portrayed in JJ that a lot of the conflict is going to come from his willingness to even be a hero. kinda that whole "with great power comes great responsibility" thing.

But I like that he can basically be taken down like a regular dude as long as you keep his skin and healing power in check.

I woke up early and ended up watching the first two episodes. So far, each episode is a 10 for 10. Looks like the creative staff built off what Daredevil and Jennifer Jones did since the show so far is superior to either series.

SPOILER QUESTION, and it's pretty dumb, but this take places before either Daredevil or Jennifer Jones, correct? The reason I ask is because Turk is on the show and he does appear to be beaten up by Daredevil at all. Dumb question, but I'm not a comic book reader, so I have to ask.

I don't like to think that either is better than the other since they've each got their own tone and vibe.

this takes place right after Jessica Jones. at the end of her series, he takes off and heads up to Harlem. they kinda mentioned it in this series that he's been in Harlem a few months.

I won't say too much, but in addition to Turk, some of the dialogue and actions in the first episode led me to believe this specifically predated Jessica Jones. Thanks for your insight.

the bad: "you hear the sirens... SOME ONE CALL IN AMBULANCE"

Loved that opening scene about Goines, Moseley, Himes and Black heroes. Meta done well.

soundtrack been off the chain too. Adrian Young and Ali Shaheed, right?

I didn't grow up reading comics, but you just described the vibe.

I don't care for the dialogue at all. Just seems kinda over the top.

I think I like appreciate more subtle tones. I don't know. I"m only on episode 4.

Daredevil Season 2 has a few characters from Jessica Jones and they mention stuff that happened. Plus Luke Cage is in Jess's show. They stated this takes place after J.J. so I imagine they're gonna reference what happened.

it was around this episode or the one after it when the show started to worsen. I don't want to type too much since other folks might not have seen the season in full, but the quality started to suffer in my eyes towards the middle of the season.

We at least agree here; the Diamondback stuff felt pretty forced to me. Along with that, the stuff with Rosario Dawson's character felt rushed to me and she didn't mesh as well as she did with Daredevil for some reason to me.

>mahershala did the dang thing but the early episodes were

It's a shame he was killed off because he was probably the brightest spot on the show IMO. He did a pitch perfect job with the role. The show didn't feel like just a comic book adaptation when he was on the screen.

I feel Mariah is the one who should've got got.

Stryker is already OD annoying

is Theo Rossi a good actor? I couldn't tell in SOA and I can't tell now

if neither performer in that scene had no clue what their lines were referencing.

I also think that song in particular was playing in the background during the early flashback scene for that episode. I know for certain it was a Gangstarr song, and oddly enough the only time I remember hearing a Gangstarr song played during the season.

He says, so far, it's an excellent exploration of what it means to be a Black man in NY in 2016. However, he says he's not sure if it's very good at being a superhero show.

He does say obviously it's only four episode and there's a lot more of the season to improve the superhero action.

he literally started out as a "hero for hire" who did deeds for a fee. so if he's not exactly a typical hero then it sounds about right. same with Jessica Jones. nothing exactly heroic about her either.

they're fucking GREAT.....lol

http://collider.com/luke-cage-review-netflix/

One of the best things about Marvel’s growing set of series on Netflix is how each has managed to create its own distinct feel while not straying too far from the overall tone. Daredevil is dark, literally, and contains some of the universe’s most grisly violence, while Jessica Jones’ narrative bleakness is tempered by a bright banter. Luke Cage is smooth and deliberate, with Cage himself (Mike Colter) fighting to move both himself and his neighborhood into the light. All three protagonists struggle with the idea of heroism, and how they fit into a world forever changed by “The Incident” (see: The Avengers). But they do, each finding their own way to a path that will, eventually, bring them all together with Iron Fist for The Defenders.

But for now, each story belongs uniquely to its title protagonist, and while Luke Cage had an important impact on Jessica Jones’ story, his own series finds him removed from those events. Taking place several months after Jessica Jones, Cage has relocated to Harlem from Hell’s Kitchen, and is attempting to keep a low profile. He’s barely making ends meet as he sweeps hair at a local barbershop (owned by the neighborhood’s father figure Pops, played by Frankie Faison of The Wire and Banshee), and cleans dishes at a nightclub owned by the crime boss Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes (Mahershala Ali). It doesn’t take very long for those stories to connect, as young regulars at the barbershop see an opportunity for quick cash that soon turns bloody. The fallout from this is what pushes Cage to finally move forward with his life and embrace his strengths for the protection of those who need it.

luke-cage-mike-colter-3

Colter has described the series as Marvel’s version of The Wire, which is bold yet in many ways apt. It’s an intimate portrait of street life, detailing not only the inner workings of the crime syndicates, but also the beleaguered police, sleazy politicians, and the young people in the community who see guns and drugs as an easy way to make money.

Luke Cage, it should be noted, hates guns, and one of the great delights of his fight sequences is not just the physicality he uses to overpower his foes (he wasn’t called Power Man in the comics for nothing, and there are some great nods to Cage’s comic history throughout the season), but also in how he pointedly destroys their firearms as he goes. As he tells Pops, “a man with a gun has no father.”

Cage is a physical badass, as demonstrated in a number of thrillingly satisfying scenes, but he has a much quieter side. He reads the New Yorker and discusses his preference for the crime writing of George Pelecanos, and has serious opinions on Bruce Lee versus Jet Li. He’s a gentleman hero, and a reluctant one. But when he’s threatened by a young man with a gun who calls him the n-word, Cage – even after a long day full of emotional toil –confronts him. “Do you see a n— standing in front of you?” he asks, also asking if the boy knows the significance of the historical black hero, Crispus Attucks, featured on the building in front of them. “I see a dead n—“ the boy replies. Cage sets him straight.

Race matters in Luke Cage, but most especially in the way that the show fully embraces its Harlem location with style and substance. There’s an intimacy of place here, and it extends to all corners of the series in cultural specificity and details. The idea of Luke Cage not just as a hero, but as a black superhero, is important here.

luke-cage-mahershala-ali
Image via Netflix
In that way and others, Luke Cage is a story that’s about more than a vigilante. Jessica Jones dealt brilliantly with the complicated, important issues of rape, consent, power, and being a survivor, and this series also deals with difficult real-world issues that go beyond metahumans and cartoon villains. As with Daredevil, it’s about changing the viewpoint of the community to not allow a villain to rule just because it’s easier. Cornell and his politician sister Mariah (Alfre Woodard) are like the two sides of Kingpin. Cornell cares about the money, power, and respect, while Mariah uses those means to get to her altruistic ends. It’s a complicated corruption.

Speaking of the other Defenders, fans of Jessica Jones will miss Krysten Ritter‘s investigator and her electric spark with Cage dearly as the series begins. But another heroine soon arrives: Misty Knight (Simone Missick), a detective who not only has her own bright banter and connection with Cage, but who is her own brand of badass. Missick is luminous in the role, bringing a fiery energy to Misty that’s smart, sexy, and a little mysterious. It’s a perfect mirror for Cage, especially since she’s strong, well-written, and not a traditional sidekick or love interest. The same is true for Luke’s wife Reva (Parisa Fitz-Henley), who returns in flashbacks to connect us not only to Luke’s superpowered origins and her own role in them, but also to connect the story back to the events revealed in Jessica Jones.

Luke Cage does an excellent job giving each of its cast members (however long they stick around) distinct personalities and memorable moments that create immediate stakes. Theo Rossi’s Shades isn’t just Cornell’s henchman, he has his own unique story, and one that’s closely tied to Cage’s past. Similarly, Frank Whaley’s Rafael Scarfe, as Misty’s partner, isn’t forgotten or written off as back-up. In this world, everyone has a place, and it matters.

But none shine as brightly as Colter. Like we saw glimpses of in Jessica Jones, he gives Cage a sense of reticence mixed with righteous defiance that hits all the right notes for a hero who uses his strength only as a last resort, and he does so in low tones and with a casual confidence. Though Cage isn’t always confident, he’s extremely principled with a magnetic charisma, making him a kind of Captain America to this ragtag group of vigilantes. Though he may struggle to define his heroism and what it means for himself and Harlem, there are no complications for viewers. He is the hero we’ve been waiting for.

Rating: ★★★★★ Excellent

Review: LUKE CAGE is Marvel’s best television effort yet

This review is spoiler-free, though if even a modicum of detail about the series is too much, let the title be your guide. Additionally, this review is based off the first seven episodes of the series.

Superhero television is a fairly hit or miss proposition. Certainly, one could say we’re currently living a golden age of adaptations of the spandex sort, with fans of series like The Flash, Supergirl, and Daredevil all citing their favorite series as the best of what superhero live-action media can offer. But none of these shows are lauded as exceptional outside of the genre. Even Daredevil, which incorporated better writing, more mature themes, and bone-crunching violence, is still a fairly iffy proposition when Vincent D’Onofrio isn’t on screen. Still, the Netflix model has proven to be the next successful evolution of what televised superhero adaptations can be, with last year’s Jessica Jones going so far as to *actually being about something* in the way it incorporated feminist thought, coming to terms with traumatic experiences, and the clever utilization of its antagonist’s abilities to almost engender sympathy with the audience before the crushing truth came toppling down like Wilson Fisk’s fists.

On paper, Jessica Jones was an exceptional series, but in terms of execution it had its own share of struggles, most notably a sagging final third set of episodes and some poorly integrated and performed supporting players. Luke Cage, in a sense, plays as a bit of a sequel to that prior series, picking back up where its final episode left off – with Luke leaving Hell’s Kitchen and going into hiding in Harlem. Though it’s not long before his past comes back to haunt him in a devastating way, and it forces him to come out of the shadows to face off against club owner and mob boss Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, Stokes’s politician cousin Councilwoman Mariah Dillard, and mob enforcer “Shades” Alvarez. Keeping a close eye on Cage all the while is Detective Misty Knight, an honest cop and Harlem native, along with her partner Rafael Scarfe.

The key difference between the two series? Luke Cage is, without fail, exceptional on all fronts.

The biggest challenge that surely faces any adaptation of Luke Cage is that, unlike Daredevil and Jessica Jones, there isn’t really much in the way of source material or a go-to run a discerning comic reader could point to and say “this is clearly what should be adapted directly to screen”. Amazingly, and as Coker told The Beat back at SDCC, what should be the glaring weakness of translating this character and his world to television ends up allowing the showrunner and his writers the ability to breathe and mold the characters in a way that’s far more natural for television. There’s no need to include a character or plot point just because Frank Miller or Brian Michael Bendis contributed them to the mythos. And sure, there are a number of characters that are included that exist in the old Goodwin/Romita comics, but Coker molds these characters into something new and multi-layered, dripping with theme from the opening moments of the first episode.

And what themes they are. Much like Jessica Jones is a show with a very specific point of view (that of a woman), Luke Cage takes a look at black culture head-on. In between its more high-octane sequences, Coker and the writing staff tackle some truly heady stuff, including black identity, class conflict, inner-city crime, civic pride, and life after imprisonment. One of the main drivers behind the majority of this subject matter is that instead of attempting to create a fictionalized iteration of a community like Hell’s Kitchen, which the two previous series have done, Luke Cage is set right in Harlem, where there’s no need to alter anything. The neighborhood becomes a fulcrum point of everything that drives the storytelling within the series, from the hero who sits at the beating heart of the city, to the villains who use the tools made available to them to make sure their ends are met (and their respective goals are sometimes pretty altruistic). From the soul, R&B and hip-hop – and performances of such – that fill many episodes, to the way the series approaches Cage’s origins and the constant reminder of just what he, and other young black men, have to live up to, despite trying circumstances (the series name-checks such giants as Crispus Attucks and Ralph Ellison), this is the rare superhero piece that transcends its origin point and becomes something much grander and more profound. In a set of years where we’ve come to see that we really don’t live in a post-racial America, this is a series that needs to be seen. Coker’s perspective is invaluable and the clarity of his voice rings through at all points.

While Mike Colter remains as perfectly cast as he was on Jessica Jones, exuding steely confidence, an imposing demeanor, sex appeal, and a general sense of stoicism, there are two other performances that I think I really stand apart and are worthy of mention:

One of the best aspects of each of Marvel’s Netflix offerings is the richness of their villains, as both Fisk and Kilgrave proved to be menacing and mostly multi-faceted creations that blow away their big screen counterparts, save for Loki. But again, both The Kingpin and The Purple Man are well-crafted characters that have much to draw from, regardless of how exceptional both D’Onofrio and David Tennant’s performances were. So when I say that Mahershala Ali’s Stokes is easily their equal, if not even more richly defined, that achievement is a both a credit to what’s on the script page and just what sort of meditative ferocity Ali is able to conjure behind this figure, who is at once terrifying and incredibly sympathetic. This is a character so vivid that, while being the clear antagonist of the series’ machinations, one can’t help but be amazed at the moral gray tones that he’s swathed in. If there’s a series MVP, it’s probably him, though there’s another contender for that crown (and I do use that word intentionally).

The “love interest” is often a thankless task for most actresses who are brought in as the female lead of the series. Something that I really appreciated about how Luke Cage approaches Misty Knight is that she’s never really treated as someone who’s only concern is that of the male lead. Sure, his actions definitely compel her in some ways, but she is a character with her own motivations, and a sense of capability that’s rather lacking in how we see someone like Iris West or even Karen Page presented. Misty Knight, as you would come to hope, really just kicks ass. Simone Missick is a revelation in the role, her chemistry with Colter is off the charts, and unlike the supporting characters that populate previous Marvel and Netflix engagements, she’s given a subplot that both dovetails with the “A-plot” and also strengthens its core. That can really be said for most of the participating players involved, there’s no sense of “let’s send Foggy and Karen off to do this, while Matt is already two steps ahead of them” or “let’s bog down in Trish’s relationship.” This is a show so well constructed that everyone has an important role to play, and while I’m sure I could pick apart some bits of fat here or there, I’m hard pressed to find anything that doesn’t feel at least somewhat essential from a plotting or characterization standpoint, barring maybe one cameo that starts to veer things a little too closely to Defenders set-up. Even Frank Whaley as Scarfe, who on initial appearance seems like a toss-off character, gets some terrific beats to play with and helps drive the story forward.

It’s possible that the only trouble Luke Cage may face is that it’s a very slow-going show, far more talkative and contemplative than anything we’ve seen from Marvel Television thus far. Those looking for the comic-based thrills of other series may run into some trouble here, but if you’ve grown tired of the black and white morality plays the generally comprises the genre and want something that resembles prestige television, Luke Cage is just what you’ve been looking for. It couldn’t have come at a better time.

'Marvel's Luke Cage': TV Review
2:04 PM PDT 9/27/2016 by Daniel Fienberg
TV's most topical comic book adaptation.
9/30/2016

Netflix's latest drama may not be a great superhero series, but it's searingly relevant and entertaining.
Not to launch a conversation about linguistic appropriation or anything, but "woke" is a piece of activist argot that I don't feel wholly comfortable using. It's a word that refers to awareness of social injustice and societal conditions, but "woke" has been co-opted by hipsters and websites hungry for clickbait headlines, and whatever urgency and immediacy it possessed in the early days of the Black Lives Matter movement have become diluted. So, I don't want to devalue the word even more by applying it to a superhero TV show. Still, if you take "woke" at its origin and at its most positive and aspirational, then surely it is appropriate for Netflix's Marvel's Luke Cage.

Premiering on Friday, Sept. 30, Luke Cage is vital and alive and of-the-moment. It sings with the rhythms and swagger of Harlem and it's a genre show that wears its intellectual curiosities like a badge. It's so satisfying as badass street poetry and muscular urban renewal parable that after watching the seven episodes made available for critics, I barely cared that as a superhero show, Luke Cage is often repetitive and a little underwhelming. It's the logical extension of Marvel's niche-y approach to its Netflix offerings, a specificity that has yielded shows that are far more provocative, but far less universally accessible than the company's blockbuster movies.

The Marvel movies try to tick every box, but staying true to Netflix's general business model, their comic book shows have just gone after one or two boxes aggressively. Jessica Jones used a snarky heroine and a mind-controlling bad guy to craft a story about consent and the power of sisterhood. Before Daredevil stumbled into a "too many ninjas" abyss in the second half of its second season, it was using blindness and the darkness of Hell's Kitchen as a platform for a story of Catholic guilt and challenged faith. Run by Cheo Hodari Coker, Luke Cage is the Harlem Renaissance intersecting with the comic book renaissance, a confrontational act of all-too-real wish fulfillment imagining a young black male as bulletproof.

Mike Colter's Luke Cage was introduced in Jessica Jones as a haunted love interest for the main character, where we learned about his powers, basically being super-strong and impervious to bullets (or pretty much anything that might pierce/penetrate/crush his skin). We pick up with Luke sweeping the floors at the neighborhood barbershop run by Frankie Faison's Pop. It's the sort of community institution where people sit around all day debating the coaching styles of Pat Riley and Phil Jackson or whether Easy Rawlins or Kenyatta was the better urban fiction hero. By night, he works as a dishwasher at Harlem's Paradise, a nightclub with a tremendous talent booker and operated by mobster Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes (Mahershala Ali), cousin of local politician Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard). Immediately, we see a harsh contrast between the greedy capitalist renewal espoused by Cottonmouth and Dillard and the grassroots Harlem that Luke Cage wants to be a part of and wants to elevate. Naturally, conflict is a-brewing between the two Harlems.

Like Wilson Fisk in Daredevil, a show that suffered horribly in the absence of a central bad guy in its second season, Cottonmouth is a vicious, remorseless killer, but he's also got a somewhat noble sense of how what he's doing is good for the borough he grew up in. Cottonmouth's ties are to family and also to the idea of legacy and the protection of a renowned family name, key details that Coker and his writers hit hard.

The Marvel movies rely on outsized special effects to capture their heightened take on reality, but the Netflix shows don't have the budget for that, so they opt for outsized thematics instead. Like Jessica Jones before it, Luke Cage is aggressively unsubtle, but it's also aggressively smart. Sure, having Luke Cage wandering around, wearing a hoodie as an act of defiance, reading Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man feels a bit on the nose, but once you throw in the references to Walter Mosley and Donald Goines and Ta-Nehisi Coates, it becomes clear that this show doubles as a superlative summer reading list, which has value beyond computer-generated scenes of mass destruction or a really cool mocap villain.

Luke Cage also offers a superlative playlist, speaking to Coker's background as a music journalist. Coming close on the heels of The Get Down, Luke Cage has many of the same sonic influences and may in fact outdo Baz Luhrmann's expensive hip-hop drama. Adrian Younge and A Tribe Called Quest veteran Ali Shaheed Muhammad contribute an original score that blurs brassy '70s blaxploitation attitude with more modern rap cuts. It calls to mind a lusher, more orchestral version of what RZA did for Jim Jarmusch's Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai, a movie that can be viewed as an interesting companion text, with its blend of New Wave and samurai influences. Music permeates every aspect of the show, especially at Harlem's Paradise, which instantly takes its place as one of the great onscreen clubs you wish you could drink at, with Faith Evans, Raphael Saadiq, Charles Bradley and Jidenna appearing in early episodes. On the soundtrack, every needle drop is perfect including cuts from Nina Simone and the show's defining action sequence, which is set to Wu-Tang Clan's "Bring da Ruckus." That's before you get to the little baked-in details like episode titles from Gang Starr songs and the centrality of Barron Claiborne's famous "King of New York" portrait of Biggie in a crown, which hangs in Cottonmouth's office, but at times seems to be everywhere, offering a hovering crown for each aspiring ruler of the city.

The early episodes are so charmingly brainy and move with such a light step — Paul McGuigan of Sherlock and Scandal knows his way around a flashy pilot — and the cinematography is so stylish — not surprisingly, everybody loves photographing Mike Colter — that you only sometimes realize that the things you expect to get out of a superhero show are largely missing. Luke Cage is, to his great detriment, initially much too powerful, and while he's certainly a reluctant hero, when he actually goes to work on the bad guys, it's pointless to try stopping him. The "Ruckus" set piece in the third episode stands out because nothing else even comes close in scope or action execution. Of the seven episodes, the one that was least successful for me, and by a wide margin, was the most comic book-y, an origin-story fourth episode that hews reasonably closely to Luke's '70s Marvel origins. It's fitting that Luke would want to debate pulp and elevated pulp-fiction African-American heroes, because that's the tradition Luke Cage operates best in, which is great if that's what you're looking for the show to be, but perhaps less great if you're looking for Harlem's Captain America, a comparison at least one character makes. Jessica Jones, with its combination of superpowered hero and enhanced villain probably operated better within its genre and plenty of viewers felt like that series also undersold its comic roots.

Ali makes great use of a classic villain cackle, and he gives Cottonmouth a coiled, psychotic rage and disarming glimpses of reasonableness. Woodard's Mariah is Cottonmouth's opposite, all superficial gentility and then undercurrents of something unhinged that become more frequent. Faison and Ron Cephas Jones, as a barbershop chess wiz named (or nicknamed) Bobby Fish, offer grounded decency, and I'm enjoying what Theo Rossi is doing, skulking around the edges, as a criminal intermediary dubbed Shades. Simone Missick's Misty Knight and Rosario Dawson's Claire Temple are there half as proactive female leads, half as potential love interests for Luke, but sometimes are confusing reminders that Luke was mighty hung up on a deceased ex — and then on Jessica Jones — just one TV show ago and they feel like they ought to be mentioned.

Colter, sometimes filmed surrounded by an almost literal aura of charisma, makes what Luke Cage does seem effortless, which is both a perfect embodiment of one side of the character, but also a slight limiting factor. Colter's smoothness limits the wonder when Luke shows off his power, but also doesn't make room for the takes-a-licking vulnerability that a pulp vigilante needs to have. Also, Luke Cage is a costumeless hero, at least so far, and the odds of anybody watching Mike Colter operate and not recognize him feel low and yet it keeps happening. Quibbles, I know. That's what I have. Quibbles.

Just as Colter moves with purpose, Luke Cage moves with purpose, even if that purpose isn't the same as what Civil War or Age of Ultron have led audiences to anticipate from Marvel. It's a series infused by the conversations we're having about race and gender and the American urban space in 2016, and it's a series built to inspire additional conversations about black masculinity and representations of heroism in an age in which the news is too often focused on the tragic disposability of black masculinity. Look, I don't feel comfortable calling it "woke," but if you do, I'll do my best to nod along in an understanding way.

Cast: Mike Colter, Mahershala Ali, Alfre Woodard, Simone Missick, Theo Rossi, Frank Whaley
Based on the character created by: Archie Goodwin, John Romita Sr. and George Tuska
Developed for TV by: Cheo Hodari Coker

In response to Reply # 0

not going to get to any of this until probably Sunday night but since a lot of the pre-release for this show was unbridled optimism (including myself) due to the trailers and fan servicey episode titles/music curation, I'm curious if anyone else is reacting to the show as this writer is?

https://theringer.com/luke-cage-black-conservative-f5be622daf67

Luke Cage doesn’t say much. As played by Mike Colter in the new Marvel series for Netflix, Luke is the strong, silent type. He’ll smile a bit if you play Method Man’s “P.L.O. Style” or ask him about Kobe Bryant — hip-hop and basketball are points of frequent, overeager fan service in Luke Cage — but otherwise he carries himself with the cold, bland demeanor of an on-duty bodyguard.

At his most talkative and forthright, Cage will disarm a young, gunshy hoodlum with an angry lecture about the patriotism of Crispus Attucks and the catastrophic legacy of Robert Moses. He will insist that Harlem, despite being under the thumb of international arms dealers and a deeply corrupt police force, is actually rotting from within. Cage’s biggest pet peeve, underscored in every other episode of the series, is hearing people say “nigga,” especially if the term is specifically addressed to him. (More on this later.) For a character that series creator Cheo Coker has explicitly linked to the #BlackLivesMatter movement, Cage spouts some surprisingly conservative undertones and mantras. He speaks like a man who has rather bitterly entered middle age.

These Marvel Netflix shows have too problems:

1. These shits are way too long by 2 or 3 episodes

2. Every single one of these shows so far have set up Daredevil, Jessica, The Punisher, and now Luke are now always being set up so it's a police manhunt as a major part of the story.

Shit is so played and tired and lazy at this point.

In response to Reply # 93

they said that a long time ago when it was first announced so we'll see if that stick to that or not. Defenders should definitely be 13 episodes with all that's potentially going on by that point.

I'm kinda torn about the episode lengths honestly. I get what people are saying but I think the "slow down and talk" or "flashback" episodes are kinda needed.

for instance that episode where Foggy finds out about Matt being Daredevil. if my boy that I've known that long confessed that not only does he basically have superpowers but he's been fighting crime as a costumed vigilante at night ..... we're going to need more than an hour to process and hash this out. that's actually very realistic. not to mention that Matt just caught the wicked beatdown and needed time to heal and recover.

that's the kind of stuff that we normally complain about being glossed over in movies and TV shows but now they're showing it. I like it, but I totally get how it feels like filler.

I mainly wonder how many cooks will be in the kitchen in terms of the writing for that show. So far, each show has had a varied style to how the characters are present, so I'm curious which writing staff will win out in terms of how The Defenders series will get presented.

similar to the feature films, the directors of the individual character films don't really have much input in the Avengers movies (with the exception of the Russo Bros since they're doing Captain America and Infinity War). I don't think Cheo Coker had anything to do with Luke Cage in Jessica Jones, so I doubt he'd be too involved in Defenders, but come back for season 2 of Luke Cage. I don't recall if they've even said who was directing Defenders. might be a whole different set of writers and directors from the other 4 Netflix shows.

He's typically way to strong for his foes to handle and framing him is one of the few (temporarily) effective plays they have. He gets setup an awful lot in the comics.

Granted, they can always improve on the source material and should, but while I understand the problem with that trope, it's also a perfectly sensible and realistic problem for each of these characters to face and LC in particular.

Again, I don't necessarily disagree overall but that aspect of it makes it a markedly lesser sin for me.

There’s been a big racial problem in America since the pilgrims first landed here. At its core of Luke Cage tackles this head on as Black Lives Matter with a superhero as its lead. That’s where Luke Cage excels. The character work, societal, and political writing are really good. However, Luke Cage has brought out some problems that plague these Marvel Netflix shows. And going forward if these shows want to sustain themselves, they need to address these problems head on.

Taking place a few months after Jessica Jones, Luke Cage (played once again by Mike Colter) is hiding out in a barbershop run by Pops (played by Frankie Faison) in Harlem and as a dishwasher at Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes’ nightclub. Stokes, who is a Harlem crime lord, has a gun deal go wrong and it all comes crashing down around him with Luke being dragged in. Eventually, Luke’s past catches up with him and he has to decide whether he wants to flee or be the hero Harlem needs.

The one thing I love about Jessica Jones, Daredevil Season 1 and the first half of Daredevil Season 2 is that the character work is strong for all the characters. All the heroes and villains including the supporting players all have arcs. That doesn’t change for Luke Cage as over the course of the show we get to know the characters intimately. And the cast gets to really shine despite some really clunky exposition and dialogue. Really, the only person who I thought was weak was Theo Rossi. With that said out of all the Marvel Netflix stuff so far Rosario Dawson gives her strongest performance to date in this show. And yes, don’t worry true believers, Luke dons the jeans, yellow blouse, tiara, and bracelets to humorous effect.

This show is unapologetically black. And that is something I rarely see on TV or even in film without it coming off as over the top (looking at you Empire), exploitative, or straight minstrel type shit (looking at you again, Empire). This show has black problems written by black people, not what white people think are black problems. Harlem itself is a character from the atmosphere to various background people who stop Luke in the street. The show explicitly references to Trayvon Martin without saying his name. Luke walks around in a hoodie with bullet holes inspiring the rest of Harlem to wear bullet ridden hoodies. There are a ton of Black Lives Matter moments from police beatings to seeing hands up on black citizens while the police are ready to fire. In later episodes the cops have itchy trigger fingers, ready to shoot Luke on site without question. This show even brings up us blacks referring to each other as niggas. The way it’s done is very thoughtful and made me think long and hard about the social issues around it.

And the music is really important to the show as well. Hip-hop and R&B are infused into the show’s soul. Method Man not only shows up to play a part on swaying the public opinion on Luke, but also performs “Bulletproof Love” (a single for the show itself). Harlem’s Paradise nightclub has performers throughout the show including Faith Evans, The Delfonics (!), Charles Bradley (!), Raphael Saadiq (of Lucy Pearl and Tony! Toni! Toné! Fame) and Jidenna (who proves he’s not a one hit wonder performing the very dope "Long Live the Chief") help set the mood. The score is top notch, composed by Adrian Younge (!) and Ali Shaheed Muhammed of A Tribe Called Quest and Lucy Pearl (!!!!!) bring funk, hip-hop, and jazz influences to a very blaxploitation sounding score. The two enlisted the revered Miguel Atwood-Ferguson to conduct a forty piece orchestra to bring their excellent score to life.

But this show is not without its problems. As with the title characters in their retrospective first Seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and with Frank Castle/The Punisher in Daredevil Season 2, Luke is framed for a crime he didn’t commit and becomes the center of a city wide manhunt. It’s become lazy, trite, and played out on the writers’ part as we have to sit through multiple episodes of this. Again. It seems almost like a crutch the showrunners can fall back on to show the heroism of the character while public opinion is not in their favor. There’s better and more inventive ways to execute this and honestly I’m surprised no one else picked up on this. I swear if they do this in Iron Fist, The Punisher or the super team up The Defenders next year (plus two other shows Marvel has in the pipeline with Cloak & Dagger on Freeform and The Runaways on Hulu) I’ll scream my head off.

These shows also have a problem of referencing The Avengers and The Battle of New York as “the incident” as that’s the only thing that has happened in this “connected” universe. So much has happened in this show and what really boggles the mind is that not once are the events of The Incredible Hulk mentioned since they literally leveled a good portion of 125th street. They desperately need to establish a timeline in which this fits in the timeline as so much has happened since ‘the incident”. I truly thought the Sokovia Accords would’ve come into play by now in the Netflix world since “it’s all connected” but I guess not. I also find it weird how people can say Iron Man, Jessica, and Justin Hammer’s names but reference Captain America as “the old guy with the shield” and Thor as “the blonde dude with the magic hammer”.
Which brings me to another point. Kevin Feige has stated that eventually these Netflix heroes or The Defenders if you will, will have to cross over with the films and vice versa as these characters grow more and more in popularity, these Marvel Netflix shows are feeling more and more like must see events as this universe continues to grow ever so rapidly.

At times I wish the show had a few of its important shots on a tripod. They go for the handheld documentary style and when it works, it works. But really besides trying to make it grounded and gritty, there are moments where I thought the importance and emotional underpinning didn’t connect due to the handheld camera work. Let’s be real here and keep it one hunnid, the Bourne series that popularized that style got railed on by its now outdated style with its most recent entry this past summer Jason Bourne.

These Marvel Netflix shows can never stick the landing with the final episodes. The way we leave this show had me scratching my head. This show is one of four that’s supposed to lead into The Defenders, but with the way it ends how are they gonna assemble them all if one is missing? It seemed stupid especially considering what character comes across of in the final montage. It was a real head scratcher and an unnecessary hurdle that will have to be dealt with in the crossover series.

To add to that I think this series should’ve been forthright with why exactly Luke ended up in Seagate in the first place instead of holding back on that and why Luke says he’s innocent but also not entirely guilty. To quote Pops’ favorite saying “Forward. Always.”. If what showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker says is true, then I don’t see how you can add Iron Fist into the mix to Heroes for Hire in a Season 2 of Luke Cage. Especially with the way this ends and the loose threads that still need to be resolved.

The final problem I have with this show, and it’s a problem with all these Marvel Netflix shows honestly, is that thirteen episodes is too much for these shows. They cannot sustain themselves for the run of thirteen episodes as you start to get extraneous material used to pad out episodes. I liked Stranger Things a lot, not as much as most people, but what made that one of Netflix’s best shows is the eight episode length as opposed to elven to thirteen episodes. There’s less filler to pad out the run of the show so you can get to the meat of the story and characters even despite that show’s shortcomings.

All in all though Luke Cage is a great addition to the Marvel Netfilx cannon. Despite the shortcomings I really loved the first seven or eight episodes of the show and it is some of the best work Netflix and Marvel have done so far. I look forward to what lies ahead especially with the various Easter eggs laid about (Colleen Wing!) that will pop up in Iron First, The Defenders, or the future Seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage. It’s about time we had a smart, black superhero show speak about relevant issues that sadly will stay relevant.

the acting, the dialogue, the music, the settings, all of it was great for me. the only complaint was dude robbing/killing, getting all that money, and then coming back to work? to get killed? nah, he would've split, but other than that, i'm all in. and they mentioned Crispus Attucks? loving it.

And unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan.

I thought Luke Cage was OK. Some good episodes, some shit carried on way too long and, as other have noted, should have been 8 episodes. I stopped watching Daredevil Season 2 after the 4th long heart to heart between Daredevil ad Punisher (which was like episode 4) and Luke Cage had too many of these as well. You don't need a four minutes scene of Pops and Luke talking and then a five minute scene of Luke and someone else discussing what he and Pops talked about.

It didn't bother me but LOL at the age difference between Cottenmouth and Domingo and Pops and Mariah.

Where the show did lose me was the "We're brothers" angle. It became a soap opera at that point. Especially when contrasting the performance Mahershala Ali gave and the guy who played Diamondback.

The hero getting set-up is a staple of comic books but I hope Netflix doesn't follow the same script for Iron Fist.

I was happy to see Denzel's girlfriend from Inside Man working again.

It might have eked out Daredevil Season 1 as my favorite Netflix/Marvel show but in most every case, I think I'd have preferred a movie trilogy over the length series.

I didn't see the things most critiqued as issues. I am actually sad it was only 13 episodes because I wanted more. Since I don't lump them into "Marvel shows" I didn't feel the laborious vibe of lazy police plots etc. I enjoyed the backstory, how it paralleled the comics etc. Costumes, in-humor, surprises. to me it was just a really good show.

The real villain in the Marvel universe might be Netflix’s apparent 13-episode mandate

ira madison iii
2h ago

In his June 1972 debut issue, Luke Cage, Hero for Hire, we get Luke's origin story. We learn about how Cottonmouth framed him for drug dealing, got the love of his life Reva killed, and sent him to prison. The series would eventually become Luke Cage, Power Man, but in Hero for Hire's 16-episode run, he manages to do battle with Diamondback, Mace, Black Mariah, Dr. Doom, Mr. Death, Big Ben, and a host of other villains. Of course, this was back when individual issues were still viable in comics, much like a television procedural. Soapier series like The Amazing Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, and X-Men would weave in romance and threads that lasted for multiple issues, but it wasn't until recently that comics became so heavily serialized.

The light serialization that existed in comics before now has been replaced with long-running arcs in major titles to promote crossover events like Marvel's Civil War or just to keep fans coming back for more. Like in television, it's much easier to get someone to come back next time if you slap a "to be continued ..." at the end. Which can be great for a cable drama like Game of Thrones that's 10 episodes long, but it's becoming increasingly worrisome for Netflix dramas that seem to mandate 13-episode seasons.

You read comic books not only because you love the heroes who populate them, but also because you enjoy their rogues galleries, the villains they fight. Luke managed to fight all those aforementioned baddies within 16 episodes of his original series, but on his Netflix series, he's only allowed to tackle Cottonmouth, Black Mariah, and Diamondback. And he's not alone. Daredevil has a wealth of characters that populate the universe in the pages of his comics, but you'd never know it based on how many episodes Wilson "Kingpin" Fisk has been in.

Light serialization in comics used to encourage a plethora of storylines; it allowed your favorite villains to return multiple times. An approach similar to The X-Files or Buffy the Vampire Slayer — which featured monsters of the week mixed in with mythology episodes — could work wonders for the Marvel Netflix series, but instead, we're often saddled with one villain who wears out his welcome. Killgrave was an excellent bad guy on Jessica Jones, but by the time the final episode of the season rolls around, you're ready for him to kick rocks.

The death of Cottonmouth midway through Luke Cage is a welcome surprise. It allows Black Mariah and Diamondback to rise to prominence, but even still, there is far too much of Diamondback threatening people for no reason and Black Mariah holding endless press conferences. The series ultimately doesn’t feel populated with enough threats for Luke Cage, and both Jessica Jones and Daredevil have also suffered from the 13-episode Marvel slump. If there are so many superheroes popping up in New York City these days, why are there so few supervillains for them to fight?

The ironic thing about the heavily serialized Netflix series is that each hero comes with his or her own procedural engine. Daredevil's alter-ego is Matt Murdock, a defense attorney, but he tackles almost no cases throughout the two seasons of his series. Jessica is a private investigator, and we open the series with her solving a case, whereas an entire episode devoted to a case could have illuminated her character further and kept us from rehashing Killgrave scenes. Luke is the hero of Harlem, and Cottonmouth tries to get to him by targeting Harlem's citizens. What could have been accomplished in two or three episodes — in which Luke helps out different people in the city — is doled out as a montage that lasts no more than 15 minutes.

Marvel's Netflix series are often complex character studies, but it would be refreshing to see those studies occur in smaller stories that show the diversity of the Marvel universe. When you watch a Marvel film, the villains are dispatched in under two hours, but on Netflix, it takes 13 full episodes to handle men who have none of the superpowers that our villains have. With the superhero team-up series The Defenders set to debut next year, one has to wonder, if you gather all of the greatest superheroes in Marvel's Netflix universe and pit them against one villain, will it take them 13 episodes to best him or her?

13 eps are long but ONLY because now the expectation is to binge it all in a day or two.

Stranger Things worked so well because it was made with that expectation.

But you look at lots of other shows. 10-13 Eps are normal. The Walking Dead had 16 last season. Hell Supernatural & Grim have 20+ eps at 40 minutes each. I think if Netflix were releasing the eps one at a time the season length wouldn't be an issue on the table at all.

I don't know, bwood. I agree with you on plenty of things, I even agree that Daredevil season 2 was great at the front and then fell a bit flat by the end. But overall I'm okay with the 13 episode seasons for these Marvel shows. Actually now that I'm done with Luke Cage, I can say they are 3 for 3 in terms of quality shows. They're going to drop the ball eventually, but so far so good.

13 eps is normal. The once a week tradition makes it more tolerable. Maybe if cats didn't binge watch and limited themselves to one or two episodes a week, it wouldn't get exhausting to watch that many episodes.

Stopped watching Daredevil season 2. Didn't go back. Eventually just took it off of my queue because I had no interest.

There are a lot of shows on network and cable that get knocked for having too much filler. People have been clamoring for network shows to stop doing the long 22 orders. It's not just Luke Cage and Netflix.

If you were 100% in, you probably didn't mind the fluff. But for people who weren't entirely engrossed, the shows definitely felt like they could be much tighter.

It's not binary. The vast majority of shows have some flaws and the ones that keep those flaws to a scant minimum are rare and make up the absolute best of the best.

People can enjoy these shows immensely without thinking they're flawless. They can be good, even great, without being exceptional.

In response to Reply # 0

So, overall i really dug it. Had fun and was invested in the characters (both the good guys and the bad guys...the major characters and the minor....i was interested in them all. and for ME THAT is always my #1 requirement...do i care about enough of the characters....are they written in a way that makes me curious about them...do they act in a way that is believable and consistent? For me, yup here again, Netflix gets that right!

There were some standout performances too...the actor playing Cottonmouth killed it man. I didn't want him to die (i remember this actor from "The 4400" and he was good in that as well.
There were other really good performances too (i dug Misty & her partner quite a bit, individually and especially when they were together on screen). Several more good performances throughout the cast, and the musical incorporation was really awesome...but i want to focus on one area where they could have improved on this show...

the fight scenes...or the 'super' scenes (even when there isn't an actual 'fight' theres sometimes 'super stuff' that can happen

with the 'super stuff' i think they missed an opportunity here. I think they could have presented those 'super moments' in a more dynamic way...in a more stylistic, or exciting, or creative way than they often did. There were moments here and there, but OVERALL the super stuff didn't live up to what it COULD have been in my opinion. don confuse what i'm saying here though...im NOT saying that Luke Cage should be jumping over buildings and throwing helicopters or anything way over the top like that...no, i get (and LIKE) that he's going to be one of those more 'grounded, gritty & real' type of superheroes...BUT...even if his powers aren't as awesome as say the Vision, Thor etc, there ARE ways you can present the powers that he DOES have in a way that MAXIMIZES there 'wow' impact while at the same time keeping true to the 'grounded, real n gritty' idea. Choices like camera angle choices, foreground and background imagery & framing, scene cut/editing choices, lighting, choreography...there are ways you can make certain things, i don't know...."COOL!" worthy by the choices you make in how you present it...and i think that, if the 'super stuff' had been consistently shot in more creative ways, it would have elevated a solid strong show to a whole 'nother level entirely...

that's one of my criticisms with both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage (all 3 shows had way bigger flaws that made me bring it down to a "meh." They're at least better than Arrow, but that's another post.)

All Jessica Jones did was break locks and throw people.

Luke Cage was a little better, but it just resulted in him throwing people and breaking shit.

When he was behind the bar at Harlem's Paradise during the standoff, he poked his head up from the bar to see where everybody was at, then ducked back down when they started shooting at him.

After he just bounced off a bunch of bullets shielding Misty. C'mon now.

Even towards the end of the series he was getting staggered by punches that normally would of broke someone's hand

In response to Reply # 154

you gotta remember that these are the introductions to these characters more than anything. Daredevil is a different type character and you're definitely going to see much more fighting in his show. Jessica even in the comics isn't much of a fighter. her show is definitely more of a psychological show. Luke kinda explained in the beginning that he literally can't go full force on regular people or he'd kill them. so he's not trying to fight all out like that unless he's actually facing someone else with powers. as far as yet, I don't think there's a bunch of super powered bad guys running around (they should totally do something about that).

Iron Fist being a master martial artists even without his power should definitely include much more fighting that you're more interested in.

like i said in my post above...im NOT asking for MORE fighting. And I'm NOT asking for OVER THE TOP power exposition. all IM saying is that, the WAY you present the fighting that IS there could be done in a way that is more 'dynamic', 'interesting', 'creative', 'fun'...

like here's an example that comes to mind...

i can't remember what ep it is, but Cage is in someones apartment, hears the cops coming, and jumps out of the window from several stories up....if i remember correctly we get:

•a shot from inside the apartment of Luke exiting the window
•followed by a shot from street level of Luke essentially already landed

ok thats fine. nothing "WRONG" with that.
but, it could have been made more 'fun' with just a few little elements in there..like, i don't know...

•a shot from inside the apartment of Luke exiting the window
•a shot (or few) from inside of other apartment windows below...maybe one of some kids eating some bowls of cereal for breakfast in front of their window, as Luke wizzes by them
•and/or maybe shot of some scattering pigeons as the 'flying' Luke busts through their 'flock'
•followed by a shot with some folks in the street in the foreground, with luke landing in he background (maybe they notice him, maybe they don't, thats not important...but the juxtaposition of 'normal everyday' stuff that we EXPECT to see against random 'unexpected, enhanced stuff' is what can take it UP a notch...and give it just a bit more 'well THAT was fun!' effect...

another example that comes to mind, Luke and some folks are down in the basement of the club running from some baddies with automatics...Luke lags behind to block the bullets so that his peeps can escape...

we get:

•a shot with luke facing us in the camera, and us being able to see over his shoulder as the baddies shoot him in the back, to no avail...

ok. he's bullet proof.
but here, just some tiny extra stuff coulda made that more fun. I mean, even using the same shot, how about just adding some shreds of is hoody flying all over the place as the many bullets tear it up? maybe one of the bullets grazes the shoulder that we're looking over and rips through the hoodie material, bounces off of Lukes neck and wizzes by us as we face luke?

little details like that can make the the 'relatively average' a lot more 'fun' n cool, ya know?

there were several other situations where i thought, 'man, they missed an opportunity there, they coulda easily made that so much cooler'...

and again, i really dug the show. but that ONE thing...not presenting the super stuff in more creative ways... if they work on that it could bump it up to another level entirely...

and btw...i didnt have the same issue with Jessica Jones, i dont know if its because i didn't know ANYthing about her character going into it, so i didn't have any expectations or what, but that series seemed more psychological to me, and the villian (and HIS powers) were what i was focused on, and thought they DID present his phycological powers in very creative and 'fun/cool/unexpected' ways...(like the random 'coffee shot' for example. normal everyday familiar scene, mixed with unexpected yet still subtle 'superness' that makes it EXTRA satisfying for the viewer )...

Cage HAS the character stuff, and the texture if the city/environment stuff... all of that is on point....now all they need to do is a little more of that 'extra detail' on the super stuff to give us something to 'ooooh' about...

Diamondback.

Mostly because I liked all of the stuff with Luke/Cottonmouth/Mariah so much, and it was jarring to switch. And I liked Erik LaRay Harvey in the role (AND the pimp stormtrooper outfit, too.) But the character was SO over the top, it kind of took me out of everything. I get what they were going for, but I think I just wanted more from Cottonmouth.

Mariah sets up for a great S2 villain, though.

I saw what they were doing. Cottonmouth was a villain but had heart, he was taken out by more ruthless villains. The only problem was that Diamondback/Stryker wasn't as charismatic a villain. And then his suit/gear in the last episode was incredibly corny.

Still, overall I liked the show.

makes no sense at all.

His entire drive and motivation is revenge against Luke Cage (Carl Lucas). So he had him set up to go to prison. While he was in prison, why not have him killed? Specifically before he was experimented on and became a superhero, making it WAY more difficult to kill him.

So Carl Lucas becomes Luke Cage, escapes from prison and starts a new life. meanwhile Diamondback has built a criminal empire so powerful that Cottonmouth has to answer to him. So powerful that Cottonmouth has to answer to Shades, acting on Diamondback's behalf. But we saw nothing at ALL this season that indicates that Diamondback has the ability to plan and execute something like this. He literally works without plans. And was his motivation for this all just to kill Cage? When he could have easily had this done earlier?

I wish the season was shorter (10 episodes) and just had Cottonmouth and Mariah as the villains. Maybe still ending with Mariah taking out her cousin and Shades being right there to work with her in the aftermath.

I finished watching the show last night, and man oh man did the episodes without Cottonmouth suck. Like I just didn't believe any of the tension with Diamondback, and found myself asking the same questions: how the hell did this guy become the king that even Cottonmouth answers to?

The actor that plays Luke also needs to step his game up. His "motivational" speeches towards the end were so lame. Misty's character took a nosedive towards kitsch at the end of the season too.

The only characters that intrigued me were Cottonmouth (who they killed off), Shades (who they kind of turned into Mariah's bitch - can't stand Mariah as a villain by the way - wish she ended up in jail so they could introduce someone new in Season 2), and Pop (who they killed off).

Luke was more interesting to me in Jessica Jones (no pun intended), than his own show (especially in the 2nd half of the season).

It was decent. I watched to see how it finished. But most of the casting is off to me.

Mike Colter is BLAH. Misty annoyed the shit outta me. Alfre Woodard is too old for the role (I like her...just not this role). Shades is COMPLETELY unbelievable. Domingo damn near too.

Claire is great. Dunn Purnsley was a lil over the top but I love him as a villain. Love Bobby Fish.

Aint no way in hell you driving from NY to Savannah and back in one fucking day. Little shit like that annoyed me. 912 stand up tho.
