I was with it until the last ten to fifteen minutes.
I liked this better than Only God Forgives, but this is 2 in a row that NWR just made something that ultimately doesn't connect for me. At least I still have the Pusher trilogy, Bronson, and Drive. I don't think he's gonna make movies for me anymore.

I get that its an allegory and commentary on the vapid, shallowness of the industries of fashion and entertainment, its just that sharp turn to absurdity turned me off.
Once it went down that road, it wasn't even shocking to me, it was ridiculous. You could predict every outrageous scene to the next because it felt like Refn was like, "What can I do in this scene to totally make the audience shit themselves?"

I don't regret going because I was bored, but I'll be damned if I say anything good about the film

First and foremost, I don't think this movie is dense enough to deserve its runtime. I feel that it could've been done in less than two hours. You could Keanu's stuff out entirely and nothing changes.
I find it fitting that the film literally begins with a male gazing at a woman's bloodied body. I'd like to think NWR did that intentionally since that's basically what this film is.
I don't know how I feel about the attempts to make Jesse a mean girl in the second half of the film. I get that she's aware of herself and how others perceive her but I don't think it fully works because (since it's not clear how much time has passed) it feels so instant. There's an entire scene of her gassing herself up and then she's arrived in the next scene (figuratively and literally).
Technically speaking, this film has so much going for it. The cinematography and art direction are absolutely beautiful and deserve to remembered during awards season. Cliff Martinez's score is dope......as it always is.

It looks good. It starts well but it's going nowhere for the sake of going nowhere. There was the possibility of a good movie somewhere in there but there's no cohesion in the storyline; It's just visuals of unfinished ideas and most of them are misogynistic and yearn to be brutal but edited badly. The actors all did a great job but the movie is written poorly.
