I'll try and a catch up either by this weekend or nest weekend so I'm fully up to date.
Top tier sitcom and it seems it is highly slept on; are the ratings low? It's in its fifth season, so it appears HBO has no problems with renewing the show for new seasons. Love how quickly and subtly the jokes are delivery. I'm up to the second episode of the second season and I see no weak links in terms of the cast yet. This appears to be the best sitcom on TV/Cable at the moment.

Gary Cole is a national treasure on this show. I'm sure I'm butchering the line, but it was gold when he told Dan he didn't have the gravitas to pull of facial hair some seasons ago. So many subtly done lines from his character. Pretty cool how JLD isn't afraid to show the warts her character has throughout the show's run so far. I hope this series lasts for another five seasons.

I don't think the jokes would work as well if JLD was only concerned about the election the whole time and was indifferent to her mothers death.
But instead I think what was going on is that she was actually grieving her mother's death and wasn't processing it well and the frustration with the mothers death was coming out through her rage about the election. her relationship with her mother was complicated and she showed that.
In lesser hands it would have been only the one layer of the joke being she was more upset about the election than her mothers death but JLD brought depth to it and it was way more complicated than that.

I guess the main problem I had with the episode is that there wasn't much evidence of how bad the character's mother was to her since the mother wasn't established as a character. All accounts of how rough JLD's character's childhood was came from JLD, which is why I was cringing for the most part. The POV was too one sided for me to take.

Plus it set the stage for the end of the season. Bringing Andrew back into the fold (and with Catherine becoming wealthy due to the inheritance) is probably going to be what gets that film footage released.

Q: In the credits, we hear The Eagle tell Montez that Selina won the Nevada recount. Is there any hope, or is he just being delusional?
A: Bob "The Eagle" Bradley is certainly a crazy person of some sort. What he says probably changes from moment to moment so I want to make this as clear as humanly possible — because I just thought of it as a funny joke — she lost the election. Even if they found those votes after the fact, she lost the election. I believe they did feel that Al Gore probably won Florida. But they don’t all of a sudden go back and say, “You’re the president now.” But even if there were those votes, she’s not President of the United States.
