Wolverine 3 Targeting R Rating
Brandon Davis- 02/16/2016

20th Century Fox revealed at Toy Fair 2016 that they would be targeting an R-rating for Hugh Jackman's final run as Wolverine next year.

This news follows the massive success of Fox's first R-rated standalone super hero movie, as Deadpool absolutely killed the box office this weekend. They previously dabbled with R-rated comic book movies earlier in 2015 with Kingsman: The Secret Service, which also turned out to be a surprise hit, though not as big a success as the world's new favorite merc.

The news comes from a pamphlet or catalog Fox supposedly handed out to guests at their Toy Fair presentation that an imgur user posted online. The logo for Wolverine 3 is featured above the theatrical release date, home entertainment release date, and anticipated MPAA rating. See it below.

http://i.imgur.com/zfZZ0usl.jpg

The move is an interesting one by 20th Century Fox. There was no doubt they would pursue R-rated movies in the future as they explored the Deadpool and X-Force corners of their X-Men universe but to take a character who has been established as PG-13 for over 15 years now is bold. That said, they could be banking on telling an accurate representation of the Old Man Logan story and Wolverine fans having grown past the age of R-rating admittance.

One has to wonder if these plans were made and revealed today following the success this weekend or if the R-rating was already planned prior to Deadpool's box office explosion. Let's bet on the former. In any case, what are your thoughts on an R-rated finale to Hugh Jackman's run as Wolverine?

We have reached out to FOX for comment, and will let you know as soon as we hear back.

The Wolverine sequel, which will be Hugh Jackman's last, is set for release March 3, 2017.

Gambit was supposed to come out in October and hasn't started shooting. New Mutants and X-Force have people in place but not sure where those scripts stand or how they play into the larger universe. They keep saying a Mystique movie might happen but my guess is that goes in the same heap as X-Men: Origins - Magneto.

I get giving Jackman one more Wolverine movie but they also should be planning on how to transition into someone new. For instance, it might be funny to have the new Wolverine first appear in Deadpool so they can get some jokes out of the change in actor.

Fox seems to kind of randomly pick which story they'll tell in X-Men; I'd love for them to get a guru (not Simon Kinberg) to head the whole thing and bring some continuity to it.

I mean, what better way to ease the transition than to have Deadpool mention how different he looks? Younger actors replacing older actors for established roles... this is perfect fodder for Deadpool's brand of meta commentary.

basically, only go R if the character calls for it, not just because. that's how i take it and i agree. deadpool the movie needed to be R in order to stay true and more accurately represent the character and universe from the comics.

wolverine should go R just because of the violence in the comics.

But it does need hella blood and gore. So many niggas have had a bloodless death at the end of razor sharp claws.

As awful as the movie was, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine game was amazing with the gore. Limbs getting swooped off at a Star Wars level.

Which I don't see happening.

I'll also stick up for Wolverine 2 or The Wolverine or whatever it was called. If they ended it half an hour earlier, it would have been a really good film. The last set-piece in the Japanese village was pointless.

That was the best part of the trailer and then... he just walks while they shoot rods into him. I was stunned. Granted, it's like everyone knows martial arts in movies now but how do you not have at least some sort of battle (strategically, it would tire him out a little.)

I'd love to hear the development/script notes from the studio on these films. I feel like they massively overthink what people want out of these movies.

Wolverine 3 Has Started Filming; Simon Kinberg Confirms R-Rating, Says It’s a Violent, “Different Wolverine”
BY ADAM CHITWOOD

While the superhero genre is all the rage at the moment, there’s one actor in particular who’s been doing this for years, and that’s Hugh Jackman. The Australian performer was a newcomer when he got the call as a last-minute replacement for Dougray Scott on Bryan Singer’s groundbreaking 2000 film X-Men, and he’s since solidified himself as the iconic Wolverine.

However, the 47-year-old is now ready to hang up the claws for good as the X-Men franchise continues barreling forward, but not before one last go-around as the character in Wolverine 3. Jackman spent plenty of care and time ensuring that this last Wolverine movie was up to snuff, bringing The Wolverine helmer James Mangold back to direct, and while folks are mighty excited to see how Jackman wraps this role up, we just learned some very exciting news: Wolverine 3 has already begun filming!

Collider’s own Steve Weintraub caught up with producer Simon Kinberg at the press day for X-Men: Apocalypse in London, and Kinberg revealed that Wolverine 3 has indeed already begun filming, going on to tease that we’re in for quite a treat:

“It’s a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you’ve ever seen in any of these movies.”

While Kinberg wouldn’t go so far as confirming that Patrick Stewart is co-starring in the movie, he did confirm that it will be R-rated and teased the setting and tone:

“I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say about that. I will agree with you that Patrick Stewart was rumored to be a part of that film. It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.”

We heard rumors earlier this year that 20th Century Fox was considering making Wolverine 3 rated R, no doubt emboldened by the immense success of Deadpool even though this R-rated Wolverine was in the works long before that film was released, and now it appears that the picture is indeed envisioned as a fully R-rated superhero movie. That’s kind of huge. Mangold shot an R-rated version of The Wolverine but also shot alternate takes to make sure they had the option of going PG-13 if they wanted to—which they did. But with Wolverine 3, the intention from the get-go is R-rated, so we’ll be getting the full, unfiltered creative vision when the finished film hits theaters.

Moreover, Kinberg also reveals the picture takes place in the future. While that seems like an obvious bit of information, the new post-Days of Future Past timeline has left much up in the air, so it’ll be interesting to see just exactly how far into the future Wolverine 3 takes place.

Fox will no doubt cast a new Wolverine somewhere down the line, as this is still a multi-billion dollar franchise after all, but boy is it going to be hard to fill Jackman’s shoes. At least we can rest assured that the actor is putting everything he’s got into making sure that his final outing as the character will be as iconic as his performance.

The untitled Wolverine film also stars Boyd Holbrook as the principal villain, as well as Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, and Eriq Lasalle and opens in theaters on March 3, 2017.

2. How about maybe you work on making a good movie and stop worrying about what the rating is until you submit it.

This R-rating thing is my newest pet fucking peeve. It's like the Killing Joke thing that everyone is celebrating the R on. How about you just make a good fucking product and say, "We believe in this and it came back as an R so I guess that's what it is" instead of some shit where before a frame is even shot you're like "Oh yeah bro! This is an R!"

Chill the fuck out. Make the movie you want to make and stop talking about the fucking rating before you even submit a trailer to the MPAA.

Why are we still acting like R equals good like 13 year olds? Grow up.

It's only a page but I can't already feel a little bummed that they are opening with the standard "Shoot Wolverine, go back to business, be stunned when he isn't affected" scene that I feel like is in every movie at some point.

Although LOL at the Makita drill.

A huge 2017 for screenwriter Michael Green (although I'm not sure if he's the first writer or donig the rewrites): Logan, Bladerunner, and Alien: Covenant.

I didn't mine The Wolverine, it was leaps and bounds an improvement of the first film. It looks like they might have got it right with this one.

He's tired of having to do the training it takes to play Wolverine. He said something like, "I don't know how many more egg white omelettes I can eat."

My guess is that they'd want someone younger this time around. Hardy and Gyllenhaal seem to be atop most wishlists. Kit Harrington is kind of an interesting idea. Especially since he's 5'8ish and closer to the right height. (There are a lot of good options from Game of Thrones.) Jack O'Connell is a great young talent.

It'll be interesting to see how the casting goes this time. They lucked out with Jackman, who was a last minute replacement. I'm not sure Dougray Scott would have done as well.

But if the girl in this does well, I'd be fine with just having her take over the mantle for a while.

>shit.

Its a shame because the X-Men universe...while it got bloated, had their plot and characters down PAT more so then any comic world.

I think its because they never took geek culture seriously even while mining it for ideas.

You give the source material the respect it deserves while cutting away shit that won't work in the movie medium...(and doing things that would) and you're set.

I just feel bad for Jackman since it took em so many tries to get it right and he's said he's done with the character. But considering the Old Man Logan timeline Wolverine is basically the only Wolverine that Marvel currently has in the comics...

>But considering the Old Man Logan timeline Wolverine is basically the only Wolverine that Marvel currently has in the comics...

Get rid of Wolverine, Fantastic Four and diminish Mutants altogether just because you can't cross market them and don't want your rival studios getting $$$

The Laura (all-new Wolverine) book is pretty good though.

It could've and should've been 10 to 15 minutes shorter. Near the end of the 2nd act and the beginning of the third it gets slow. There's only so many times I wanna see Logan pass out.

Almost more interested in seeing those kids come together as the new X-Men than see another Singer film. Or, maybe better yet, a kind of Lord of the Flies with mutants type film.

I might put it at the top. But I wasn't in love with First Class or Days of Future Past.

There's definitely two halves to the film (made more noticeable by my screening getting canceled midway through due to audio issues.) The first half is amazing. The second half is still good but it definitely slows down.

Like every X-Men movie, it features a final battle that wasn't as good as previous battles in the film and was a bit underwhelming for me.

Boyd Holbrook is great in a one-note role. The bad guys are pretty generic overall. Patrick Stewart is awesome. Jackman also shines. The girl is good but reminded me of a young Lukas Haas at times.

The overall melancholy tone of the movie makes it a hard movie for me to LOVE (it's hard seeing your heroes beat down by life and old age) but damn, it was good.

"Missed opportunities"

Before I get to what I didn't like below... Hugh Jackman is terrific, Patrick Stewart is terrific, they nailed X-23 and Caliban, and the violence... FINALLY! We get to see Wolverine as the fans truly know him to be. Movies should not set out to be rated R, but I think with this and Deadpool, perhaps more mainstream R comic book movies are in line to be made... I'm looking at you Deadpool 2, X-Force, and what I hope will be an R-rated, Mel Gibson directed (he's been confirmed to be rumored) Suicide Squad sequel. Logan's cinematography the film in general looked terrific. The Reavers are always a scary presence in the comics to Wolverine (they beat the shit out of him and crucified him at one point), and Boyd Holbrook was pretty good as the leader.

The above points create a film that is at the very least a Top 5 X-Men film, that I think will age very, very well. X2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Deadpool (yea, it's an X-Men franchise film), and X-Men: First Class (this is debatable), are better IMHO. But, those 4 and Logan are hands down the best of the group, by far.

Now, on to what was a little less than stellar...

SPOILERS... that I think are, for the most part, nitpicks... I couldn't help but think of these while watching the movie though...

Deadpool is there, cool, but why not film a combo scene with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine if this is his final appearance as the character?

X-24? Really? He was OK, but why not use Sabretooth here? Ultimate Sabretooth had 4 adamantium claws on each hand, can you imagine Liev Schreiber as a more badass version of Sabretooth?

Why didn't they show what happened to the X-Men? They did in Old Man Logan, do it here!

Why not make the lead scientist Mister Sinister, especially after introducing his name at the end of X-Men: Apocalypse when Essex stole Wolverine's blood and hinted at the creation of X-23?

So Hugh Jackman has appeared as the character 9 times in 17 years... And never once did he appear in the classic comic book uniform? The closest we got was a deleted scene in The Wolverine and in the comic books in Logan? Really?

It may seem I'm hating hard, but I really did enjoy the movie quite a bit. Hugh Jackman's final appearance and R-rating had high hopes in me though, perhaps unfairly so.

Like with Sabretooth, my guess is that it was a budget/scheduling thing. Easier to just have Jackman and only allusions to events than have to get extra actors in. But I 100% agree. In my recommended expectations, I have Don't Expect Other X-Men Cameos because I kept hoping to see a flashback of what went down and was disappointed when one never happened.

I was kind of disappointed by the final fight. Kids barely using their powers. Literal overkill on ol' Boyd Holbrook. In the future, we don't have better non-lethal weapons or dart guns to knock people out rather than firing live rounds? The Shane line was kind of cheeseball but effective.

it would've been another 10 minutes of tacked on flashback/dialogue that doesn't help with the current narrative. the movie explained well enough that mutants were endangered if not a few years away from outright extinction.

an opening montage of all their deaths, or Charles having a random conversation ("remember when Scott and Bobby used to..." *emotional musical cue* *Logan explains out loud to audience how they were killed and walks out in anger*) adds nothing for me.

I think you could have shown flashbacks without going into a lengthy monologue explaining the backstory. Even something as simple as seeing the X-Men dying at Westchester (or wherever the incident was.)

Ultimately though, not really worth the extra money that it would have cost.

They were going to open the movie with it. As Mangold said, then it becomes a movie about X-Men getting killed.

i still think they could have worked it in quickly later in the film but glad they didn't go with that original plan.

i was SO VERY pleased and satisfied with this one. it was a self contained, personal tight little story for the most part with characters that i cared about who had motivations that made sense. The story was focused and well told. (i'm so glad they didn't get into the details of what happened to the other Xmen)

for me Logan X2 & First Class are the cream of the crop of mutant movies.

(that said if you need some more good mutant stuff before the next big screen mutant movie comes out, the FX show "Legion" is KILLING it so far!)

have you listened to
her stuff?

In response to Reply # 0

well, not flawed, but missed opportunities as someone else said. The plot and the villain characters were incredibly generic and lacked imagination. Clearly most of the time was spent on the script, which was good for a superhero movie. They did a great job of making you feel for the girl. They fumbled the villains though...dude with the metal hand (what was the point?) and his goons brought nothing to the table. Then you have the generic amoral scientist who created something dangerous that you see in every other movie. Then you have a stronger clone version of the hero which has been done plenty times before.

The thing is, the movie was executed so well and the tone was so consistent that people are willing to overlook the missed opportunities. And the action scenes were exciting, well-staged, and intense.

The little girl flipping 250 lb goons around though was silly....cmon. Just keep it to her slicing dudes up and being quicker than them.

terminator 2.

the blend of heart/sadness/action/hope was top notch..i had grown man tears during the end, crazy.

little girl playing x-23 was scary good, i really hope they'll bring mangold back to direct a spin-off focused on her...just don't mix her up with that garbage apocalypse or deadpool continuity please.

Thank god disney/marvel doesn't own the rights to all their characters...we would've never gotten something like that.

THIS is how you nail a comic book movie.

Honestly couldn't have asked for anything better. Nothing about this needed to be changed for me. They did it perfect. Makes me want to spend my money to see it again which rarely happens.

Hope someone at DC is taking notes.

We still get villains that don't step up to the plate.

I liked Pierce because he was very much the western archtype of the cocky gunslinger so he worked in the fucked up world they lived in.

The mad scientist dude was straight from comic book movie and I wish they casted someone a bit less hammy.

That said, they weren't even the main badguys; dead dreams and getting old is (which bringing it back to Pierce and how he worked because of his youthfull cockiness). Near genius movie, gonna be hard to watch other comic book movies the same.

I HATED X-24. He felt like a cheap plot device and totally took me out of the movie. If they would have somehow used Sabretooth, it was have taken this movie to a whole new level... Logan's final fight againsgt his arch nemesis. There were other small things that are easily overlooked, but X-24 really didnt sit well with me and took things down a notch or two. I didn't mind as much the second viewing, but still can't help but think of how things could have been if they had used Sabretooth.

This movie is all about Logan’s guilt. He carries it with him everywhere. Remember his dialogue with Laura about their dreams:

Laura: “People hurt me (in my dreams)."
Logan: “Mine are different. I hurt people.”
Laura: “I hurt people too. Bad people.”
Logan: “All the same.”

Think of all the dialogue from Shane, about how killing is a brand that stays on you, one you can never wash off, something that changes you forever. Think about how many times Logan insists he *isn’t* a hero, that the comics were fake, that he’s not the good man people think he is. He’s haunted by it. Shit, the survivor’s guilt alone from being the only X-Man to walk away when Charles killed the rest of the team (the “Westchester incident” you hear about on the radio as they’re leaving Vegas).

Logan’s greatest nemesis isn’t some arch villain in a gaudy leotard. It’s his past—it’s everything he remembers, and everything he wants to forget. That’s why X-24 works perfectly, imo. He’s the pure distillation of Logan’s regret—the killer working off pure rage, a weapon programmed by men in lab coats and turned loose to murder without thought or hesitation. The memory of what he was haunts him still, and then suddenly it takes physical form and stares him in the face. The first time they see each other, X-24 sizes him up and just walks right past him. It’s like he’s assessing a threat, and then realizing “This man is no threat to me—he *is* me. Just another weapon, another killer.”

To introduce a “shocking twist villain from his past!” in the form of Sabretooth would just have nudged this movie that much closer to the usual X-Men films, with their melodrama and cartoon villainy. Logan was such a terrific film for bypassing all that shit and just telling a story of a haunted man still learning to live with it (which is, not coincidentally, one of the last pieces of advice he gives to Laura—"find a way to live with it").

X-24 as a younger, pure id form of Wolverine (I'm not familiar with the comics but I get the impression this character is an entirely original creation?) is way more satisfying than Sabretooth, especially for someone like me who hasn't seen an X-Men movie since X2 and I'd actually imagine for a lot of people who DID see the movie Sabretooth was a bigger deal in since that movie is not well-liked.

if you're familiar with the comics maybe you want the character who was designed to be his opposite, but the movie didn't need that and I don't think the general viewing audience will even notice his absence. plus it sounds like Mangold would've used Sabretooth as a friend rather than foe had he been included.

They had Jackman out there looking like Joel several times, plus Laura with the backpack Ellie style.

beautiful cinematography, all the action was great, the movie felt like it dragged a little but there was also like 45 minutes of trailers before it started and I haven't seen a 9PM screening in a long, long time so I wasn't prepared to not walk out of the theater until after midnight.

My first thought after the movie was I wanted to take anyone I knew who wasn't that into comic book movies to go see it.

if I had ANY gripe at all, it was the iPhone documentary about what was going on at the genetics lab. I couldn't buy that that woman got so much footage with her phone in a facility like that at all, but I let that slide because it was effective imagery. Maybe one other thing would be X-23's combat wails, but whatever. Most audiences want that.

but this was like The Last of Us, Terminator 2 and bits of Mad Max rolled into one. Visceral, emotional, exciting, funny, endearing, heartbreaking. I'd love to see this get several Oscar nods.

X24 and the doctor weren't that necessary IMO. The Reavers could've been enough if they hadn't been chumped so early by Logan and Laura in Texas.

I felt like The Reavers would've beat the kids to the border instead of arriving at the same time. They had drones conducting surveillance. Also, Logan was out of it for more than a day. Shouldn't the group have left once Laura made it to the camp?

And not one adult made it to the camp? But these kids made it?

And those kids could've beaten The Reavers because they were actual mutants. I can let that one go because I know that the film did make it a point to mention that the kids didn't fully take to their training.

They were waiting for any others to show up...the plan was to leave on a specific to allow others time to make it. You can assume there were at least a couple of kids that hadn't made it yet that they were waiting for

yeah i wanted them to be more badass but i just chalked it up to the movie not being about them...so they made Laura badass and Logan is Logan...gave a couple kids one cool scene before getting knocked out. Would've been cool though.

The execution of the film, from Mangold to Sir Patrick Stewart to Hugh and down the line, bravo. The technical combined with a character driven plot combined with the pure angst and torturous portrayals...my goodness, so good.

The last scene between Logan and Laura..."don't be what they made you" as she finally recognizes him as "daddy". Cotdamn, hard for me not to lose it as I'm typing right now.

Incredible film. Along with X2 (albeit completely different), by far far far and away the best X-men films - and what a note to go out on for Wolverine.

Personally, I had some minor gripes with the movie the first time I saw it, primarily with the nurse filming that mini-documentary in the laboratory and no one ever catching on to her or shutting that shit down and the pacing of the opening act (my girlfriend, who hadn't seen the movie before this Noir screening, agrees that she felt a little haywire until the nurse gets killed) but I gotta say, man, seeing it a second time and in this presentation gave me a whole new appreciation for a lot of other things about this movie and just how smart it is thematically and in how it handles its ending.

I don't have the longest list of movies I've seen this year, admittedly. Get Out, John Wick 2, to my knowledge that's the list. But I would be strongly, strongly OK with Logan getting a nomination and strong push for the Oscars. It's a superhero movie, so whatever, but I find it a very powerful movie about inner turmoil and finding a place where you can both feel wanted and find peace (also, I could feel it the first time, but the second time that Logan could only find that in death broke me down and I felt like a total geek sitting next to this huge neckbeard that was completely po-faced). I get that I bring some of that to the movie from prior knowledge of X-Men from my childhood, though. My girlfriend didn't necessarily pick up on everything I was putting down after this second showing because she doesn't care about comic books and can't remember if she ever saw the first X-Men movie let alone was familiar with the arc of Professor X and Wolverine. She did think it was a lot of fun and really enjoyed how much more drama this movie had than most comic films, and appreciate the concept of X-23 once I broke open the history of Wolverine for her a little bit.

The idea of mixing full sit down meals, alcoholic beverages, the dark, intimate settings of a movie, with a NYC crowd doesn't sound like the best of all ideas to me. Just sounds like the perfect recipe for folks being too loud and distracting to properly enjoy a flick.

everything about how it's set up invites a very specific sort of crowd. the beer is (just about) all craft, there are a lot of special screenings like this one or month long celebrations of a particular director or period of an actor's career, theme nights and the like. it's a movie nerd's movie theater and they have a lot of strict rules in place to enforce that. I've heard of people getting the boot for checking the time on their phone, though that's probably just urban legend.

Also, I've been to other full service theaters and this one gets it right. I would HATE to be a server there, but they all crouch-walk through the theater and take your order from a notepad you've written on, it's completely non-verbal once the trailers have started and you don't notice them moving around any more than you'd notice people going to the bathroom.

One thing that can kind of suck the fun out of certain movies if you hadn't seen them before is they bring the check out at exactly 25-30 min. from the end of the movie and it's like a weird flag that the movie is in its final act. But it's also really easy to appreciate how clockwork it is; you're never left lingering around during or after the credits waiting for your check.

Also, they don't run the generic pre-roll ads that every other theater does. THey DO advertise their own product, but they do it with custom-made in-house trailers that are catered to both the movie being screened and the even they're promoting. I remember the ad rolls before the lights dimmed for Hateful 8 being particularly super fun.

I don't go to the Alamo in my area a lot because it's about a 20 minute drive and there are two theaters within a shorter distance, but I try to catch most of the bigger releases out there and always keep my eye on their special event screenings like this Noir thing or when they did a Tarentino month and I got to see a bunch of my favorite movies that I'd never got to experience in a theater before.

This was such a great watch. There's not much to add from what's already been said. I love how they focused on one story, and they told it well. They didn't need to show what happened to the other X-Men because that didn't matter for this story. They hinted at it (probably Professor X killing them during a seizure) but left it to our imaginations.

They didn't need to build up a great villain for this - the sole purpose of the villain was to give Logan and X a reason to leave their comfort zone. Pierce was after X-23, they decided to protect her and help her get to North Dakota. Simple as that. But Logan's leaving his comfort zone made him face his real villain - himself. His guilt, his self hate, the demons of his past. Which made it PERFECT to have him face X-24 in the end.

The only issue I have with the entire film, and I don't think I've seen it brought up in this post yet, is how they did Eriq La Salle and his family. That was straight up brutal. In the end I don't even have a problem with the fact that they all got killed, it's just that it was so avoidable and it didn't really have a purpose. They invited the 3 of them to their house, and X wanted to go, but Logan should have just said, no - we're on the run and gotta go NOW.

I'd feel better about what happened to that family if Logan and them actually had a reason to go to their house. Like if X-23 wanted to help them in some way, and convinced Logan. But then all the bad stuff happens and she had to deal with the repercussions of her getting them all (plus Xavier) killed because of her trying to help. That would have paralleled Logan's dealing with his past and made her mature more quickly.

BUT all of this doesn't really have to do with the point of the film so I understand why they didn't add that context. As it stands though, the only point of that family being in the film and getting killed is the introduction of X-24 and him killing Xavier.

In color, I agreed with you, but in B&W you just get so caught up in the sound, imagery and the way it's shot, you don't really snap out of that trance and stop to think "wait, why?" until dude collapses on top of his shotgun and the violence ends.

But I agree, as an addendum to the post I made above Logan buckling to Xavier's request to have a normal night in was another of the small gripes I had that I mostly overlooked on my second viewing at the Noir screening.

Boring, trudging story. Zero character development. Wolverine doesn't care about anything. We get it. Drive around, get ambushed by villains, rampant slaughter, repeat for two and a half hours. Logan is an asshole, the girl is an asshole, and professor X is reduced to a clown. Nobody to root for or care about. Pretty disappointing because I really like the other X-Men movies and I was very intrigued to see a grittier take.

*spoilers*
Do I need to be up on all of the lore to get this movie? Because the story was just about impossible to get into. How was Eden a comic book creation, yet real? Was it made real merely by virtue of the kids gathering there? And why should I care? The whole thing seemed pretty aimless. And it was very distracting that "North Dakota" looked like western Colorado. I legit thought they were still three states away from their destination until suddenly other mutant kids.

And I thought it was very lame to bring in the farmer family only to have them slaughtered. As another example of pointlessness.

I'm thinking that I'm simply not nearly invested enough in the Marvel universe for this movie to grab me. I can maybe see it as an illustration of the dilapidated state of Wolverine's character (which would still not cause me to enjoy it), but not as good cinema.

At minimum, I needed some kind of internal struggle with Logan to provide intrigue. Nope. Just pop pills and kill people and act like you hate whatever you're doing at the moment. Then die. Very static and boring to me.
