The parts with him in the trailer had me raising my eyebrows. The clip alone with him must have been enough to piss off the trans community. I mean it was pretty offensive in an 80s humor kind of way, which surprised me for a movie like Zoolander. Since the first trailer they made no mention of him in the movie--I wonder if they wisely edited him out to avoid major heat from the LGBTQ community.
I doubt I'll catch this on the big screen, but that part had me wondering.

The joke is obvious in context-- Derek and Hansel are out-of-touch relics who aren't really known for tolerance, and "All" and All's designer are on the extreme end, posers who embrace what's "hip" now to the point of ridiculousness. So when you put them together, they confuse one another.
The character of "All" could've been really funny (Cumberbatch is certainly committed)-- but All basically shows up exclusively for that one scene, then All flies in on wings and dumps stewed prunes on Derek and Hansel during the show, because they're old and lame, and All is new and awesome.
It's a really weird scene, and certainly not a funny one. I didn't really leave thinking that the scene itself was offensive in context (the ignorance is the butt of the joke, not All), but considering it's the only depiction of a transgender in the movie... yeah, I mean, just an ill-advised bit all-around.
