"Marvel's Agent Carter, Season 2 (ABC)"

http://abc.go.com/shows/marvels-agent-carter

Missed the premiere last night, but I understand it was two episodes back to back. Thought the first season was dope, glad it was renewed. Will definitely be watching.

So, what say PTP?

Finally caught up just in time to miss ep. 3, lol. Thought the setup of these first two was dope.

Love the change in setting to LA.

Jarvis is back! Love the Peggy/Jarvis duo.

How will Dottie (and Leviathan?) still fit in?

Not sure what to make of Calvin Chadwick and his secret society. Though I recognized Ray Wise reprising(?) his bit role as the head of the plant they investigated last season and a member of the society.

Interesting take on Whitney Frost. Presumably her encounter with the zero matter will lead to her becoming her comics persona.

And presumably since Whitney survived, Dr. Wilkes did as well?

Nice to see Mrs. Jarvis become an actual character this season. Though the accent is weirdly American meets unspecific Eastern European.

Not sure what to make of the Sousa thread. It was a throwaway in Season 1, so I hope they don't mine a love triangle out of this.

I can't remember what last season ended up being about, but this appears to be a more direct tie-in with AoS. I guess they're still at a stage of thinking (what we know as) the portal as just some unknown matter. It looks like something has already come over from the other side.

the obelisk could be solid at times. this Zero Matter (Darkforce) stuff seems to constantly be in flux and not solid at all. apparently it's the same stuff that is going to come into play with Dr Strange.

And whether its obelisk stuff or not, remember, the obelisk is still around in the show's time period.

I mean, it might be the same stuff and those folks got sucked across space, but that seems...lazy. I don't need my SHIELD shows to be connected in a way where they're just rehashing their plot devices. Why not just use the obelisk if you're going that way and not be needlessly coy about it?

I'll hope it's just a case of being economical on the F/X budget.

I do like the tone, it's its own thing that's not AoS. It's just caper-ish enough. Mrs. Jarvis is a fun surprise.

All around, I dig.

I am a feminist, recognize the bullshit that Thompson operates on and thoroughly enjoy her character, but them titties is a beautiful thing. Kind of wish the "period piece" element of the show doesn't have to hide behind the chauvinist ways of the time to justify it, I'm perfectly content to just see a beautiful woman who can beat ass with beautiful breastsesesesesess.

I like that the only dude post Cap to get through to her is a nigga, however short lived it may be.

I believe the MCU is on a bit of a different arc than the one the show is on, because in Winter Soldier she says her husband was someone Cap rescued during WWII. Wonder if he'll ever make his way into the show.

...with as much as this show hits the "man, it was tough for women in the 40s" trope non-stop, they have been wickedly lapse in presenting a black man.... with a white woman...

Like, besides that donut shop that they shoehorned in, and the requisite "It was hard for me to become a scientist" conversation, they act like "Eh, shit wasn't *that* bad." Meanwhile, season one of this show, every two seconds someone was barking at Peggy like "Hey sugar tits, get me coffee."

I'm nitpicking. I know.

I mean yeah sure black scientists existed, we know this, but come the fuck on. Peggy would have had that nigger arrested for batting his eye. Which is why he wouldn't do it. And there would be no situation ever where he'd be in a room alone, let alone with her. And they given gov't level clearances to niggas in the 40's. Nahhhhh. Oh and some shit went down in the facility, nigga should have been in custody immediately.

Which I'm sure he picked up on. Also they are in California, not Georgia so I'm willing to be OK with it. After all he is the only brotha there. It's not like there's 5 or 6 black guys around. They did make a point to say he was exceptional. And of course they turned on him real quick when they needed to, so it's pretty accurate. LOL

Atwell's portayal is completely believable in all scenarios...she's killing it, she's a star. She's the secret weapon for sure. PERFECT casting. Peggy is a wonderful character who i wanna hang with. (this may be a dumb question, did this Agent Carter character exist in the actual comics at all, or is she really a new creation within the MCU movie world?)

and she & Jarvis & Stark together is a ball. (love both Jarvis and Stark characters and the portrayals from the actors here too, again excellent casting)

its a fun show, pure and simple...

As the aunt of Cap's girlfriend Sharon Carter. Sharon is the chick in SHIELD that lives across the hall from Cap in Winter Soldier. I don't know how they're related in the MCU.

I enjoyed this ep. It's good to see both leading lady's backstory and motivations. I wonder what the tear that the black guy can see is gonna lead to. I wish it was out the side of that chick's face, lol.

Did they make Jarvis more bumbling this season? It seems like he's not useful for jack shit this year.

‘Agent Carter’ Star Hayley Atwell Cast in ABC Legal Pilot ‘Conviction’
Laura Prudom
FEBRUARY 10, 2016 | 09:46AM PT

“Agent Carter” star Hayley Atwell has been cast as the lead in ABC drama pilot “Conviction,” Variety has confirmed.

Atwell will star as another character named Carter — Carter Morrison, the brilliant but rebellious daughter of a former president, who is blackmailed into taking a job as the head of Los Angeles’ newly created Conviction Integrity Unit. Along with a team of lawyers, investigators and forensic experts, she’ll investigate cases where there’s credible suspicion that the wrong person may have been convicted of a crime.

If Atwell’s “Agent Carter” is renewed for a third season, it’s said that the British thesp’s schedule will be worked out to accommodate both shows.

The series hails from ABC Studios and The Mark Gordon Company. Liz Friedman wrote the pilot, Liz Friedlander will direct, and both will executive produce along with Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper.

Regardless of whether or not “Conviction” is picked up to series, The Mark Gordon Co. already has a drama series on ABC’s slate for next season: “Designated Survivor,” starring Kiefer Sutherland, landed a straight-to-series order of 13 episodes in December.

“Marvel’s Agent Carter” has never been a ratings juggernaut for ABC on Tuesday nights — the most recent episode drew 2.9 million viewers and a 0.8 rating — but the series scores notable gains in Live+3 and Live+7 playback among the adults 18-49 demo, with last week’s telecast spiking 63% from three days of playback (from a 0.8 in L+SD to a 1.3) and the second season premiere jumping 78% after seven days (from a 0.9 in L+SD to a 1.6).

The shows aren't working that well, at least ratings-wise.

They might want to go with mini-series or a movie a month to get people interested in it. You would think Disney owns enough properties that they could do a Movie of the Week with some of their better properties.

Personally, I have no interest in Agents of SHIELD. I've tried, but it's not for me. So I probably won't like Marvel's Most Wanted, but will give it a shot. Agent Carter is/was fun, well acted, and benefited heavily from having less direct plot ties to the greater MCU direction.

The Netflix shows, however, have been excellent.

But I know Disney wants more family friendly content that they can get more eyes on than at Netflix, so they're gonna keep mining Marvel for more content to air on ABC. But several mini-series wouldn't be a bad strategy.

But that was the case last year and we still got a season 2. Though I assume that's more because of the ABC/Disney/Marvel connection.

And seeing j0510's post below, it's probably true.

I thought this was dope, but the posts above just bring up more questions. Like, what is the purpose of this show? I was hoping they would show different periods of her life post-Cap that lead up to creating SHIELD. So far, this is just the first 2 years and it's still the SSR.

If this doesn't come back, we're left with a cliffhanger.

•The CHARACTERs, the characters, the characters...they've made me care about the characters. i just want to continue to hang with them....Whatever they do wherever they go....

•The Cast and the acting...i've said it before and i'll say it again. Atwell is a star. She nails this role. COMPLETELY believable as super smart, ass-kickin, quick witted Peggy Carter. And the rest of the cast are also SPOT-ON with their portrayals too. Mr Jarvis is PERFECT! The chemistry of Peggy & Mr Jarvis together of the charts. And then there's MRS Jarvis, Stark & the rest of the crew...including the newer side characters they've introduced this season...All have great chemistry & comedic timing with each other. i could listen to Peggy, Jarvis and Mrs Jarvis banter back and forth about almost anything and would probably have a smile on my face. And i am loving young Howard Starks unapologetic player character...what a blast!

•It SUCCESFULLY (IMO) fills a niche in the Marvel universe that doesn't have a lot of competition. (the Comedicly focused action/adventure). With the right amount of promotion and marketing and support, this show really SHOULD be a hit in the 'fun, adventure, family friendly for all ages' TV genre.

•WEALTH of potential material to explore: because of its setting in the past, there are loads of stories and areas they could explore that don't have to be directly tied to the 'modern day Marvel universe's specific story lines'. they could explore so many things and put fun interesting twists on them....things like actual historical events. And then, when it makes sense to, they could indeed also explore the early 'seeds' of some of the modern day Marvel U story lines as well. The big story lines or, even potentially more interesting perhaps, explore some of the lesser known side/sub story lines. Or heck, even plant/create some entirely new/old seed/stories that end up baring fruit in some FUTURE modern day Marvel U story that have yet to be written. The opportunities are abundant.

•he writing is fresh and fun and, i believe, have smartly maintained a 'character first' focus.

Did i mention Atwell is awesome? Atwel is awesome.

so yeah...this show, or at least these characters, need to live on in some form. they deserve it. and i wanna hang out with em some more dammit....

Zola is in jail, and they end up using him. Would be nice to see how Hydra is in the back laying the ground work for the events of TWS.

Way too much to do with this to cancel it. Network TV is some bullshit though. Would be nice if it goes to Netflix or Cable. Atwell is too magnetic to lose.

And I would DAMN sure prefer full seasons of this to AOS, at this point.
