"Finding Dory (Andrew Stanton, 2016)"

Serious question: Did Finding Nemo need a sequel?

This seems like a Cars 2 (and Cars 3)/Planes and Planes 2 cash in.

were GREAT. Cars wasn't one of their best films to begin with - so that seemed like a money grab because it (and all the merchandise) was popular with kids.

Pixar knows how to do a sequel right, it's just a matter of if they will be successful of not this time.

I'll look at this in two ways. First, just from a movie and marketing standpoint, it does not really need a sequel. The story line had nothing to do with whether or not Dory found her memory or her parents or...anything else, really. But, Pixar can pull it off. They did it with Toy Story (especially TS3), and they did it with Monsters Inc (and I think doing a prequel for that instead of a sequel was probably the way to go there). Cars was....a mandated money printing machine, but I've come to grips with that. So, if Pixar figures to do a sequel to one of their beloved and best properties, I'm in.

Now, on a personal level, I think leaving the story as is would be perfect. I always saw it as a father going to the ends of the earth to save his son, and seeing the despair of losing him and joy of getting him back is very real. I had been going through a nasty custody battle for my son around the same time, so that theme of the movie resonated with me in a way I can't put into words without tearing up. Once Marlin finally gets reunited with Nemo I'm openly weeping for the rest of the movie (and partially now typing this) because I know that feeling and had that moment with my little one. Nothing really needs to be added to that story, those characters, that world. It said everything it needed to right there, and doing anything more may cheapen it.

The first is mos def better, but I fucks with this sequel. It'll get you good. Minus the upcoming Cars 3, it looks like Pixar's back for good.

caught the first showing with my son and we loved it. Definitely not as good as the first one. But a solid sequel. I really liked how they started off showing Dory's back story and the flashback ends with how she met Marlin in Finding Nemo. Lots of recognizable voices in this. I smiled when I heard Idris Elba. Ed Oneil was fantastic. Really good. Go see it!

Outside of Hank and the Wire seals, it was solid yet unspectacular.

No chance it will ever be better than the first (and see my post above for personal reasons), but I don't doubt Pixar's ability to make a good movie from this. Will see once the hype dies down and I can get a ticket
