Didn't fall in love with it like some critics did. I have some gripes, none of which I'll go into here for spoiler purposes.
Still, it's unquestionably different, and I get why people are falling in love with it. Rinko is really expressive for someone so deadpan, and the cinematography/score are both strong.
If you liked the trailer, it's worth a shot.
This is an indie indie though-- meaning it's methodically paced, lots of strange music/sound effects, lots of silence. Don't expect anything too zany or too epic. It's a very small, melancholy movie, with a few moments of sharp humor sprinkled through the run time.

If you're the type that likes uncomfortable art house flicks and can deal with the accusations of being a tasteless hipster, then this flick is up your alley.
I was captivated by the tone, pace, cinematography, and Ringo Kikuchi's acting. The Tokyo scenes were so well done and accurate, I felt as anxious as Kumiko to leave it all behind. Once she got to Minnesota I felt the same foolish hope and determination as Kumiko to find her treasure.
I loved the ending too.
This film will definitely stay with me. I liked it so much after one viewing that I can already tell it's in my Top 10 films for the past 5 years.
It's a polarizing film that many viewers will understandably not like and hate on, but it worked perfectly for me.
