It's LOST and i guess Twin Peaks and Northern Exposure, but it really ought to be a Netflix show than on FOX.

I can't think that the audience would want to stick with the show long enough for the payoff to be worthwhile.

... everyone would be excited. Terrific cast, weird/interesting premise, intriguing trailer.

Easily finishes its season, cmon, lol. Is it a series or a miniseries? Feels miniseries-y with that cast.

I enjoyed the books and think it's a fantastic property to adapt for TV. Shyamalan's involvement completely kills my excitement.

My reaction would be different if it wasn't attached to a guy with a history of creating cinematic garbage out of great source material along with his own terrible, half baked, underdeveloped ideas.

So yes, aren't thrilled about the involvement of a guy with such an abysmal track record. He's completely exhausted the pass he earned between Unbreakable and Signs and has earned his naysayers.

His writing declined steadily since Unbreakable (which is fucking underrated), but his direction and visual style only sucked in The Happening and The Last Airbender.

Just nothing... happens. *rimshot*

I mean, the trailer alone for The Happening shows that M. Night still had it.

Last Airbender... I hope that was just a cash grab. I'll chalk it up to that. That didn't even feel like an M. Night film. Just brutal.

The Last Airbender is based off of the very popular Nickelodeon show Avatar: The Last Airbender. That show was excellent and M. Night said that his kids loved as well as he did. Everything that is wrong with that movies is 100% his fault. I mean fuck, the pronounced Avatar wrong.

The Happening just sucked. The script was shitty (it was the trees!!!), the actors looked lost and were fucking awful. That's shitty direction.

I said The Happening still looks good. It is a very bad movie.

I know where Airbender comes from. That's why I said I hope it was a cash grab-- an attempt to ingratiate himself to a studio with a hit kids movie instead of his normal stuff. It didn't because it was really really terrible.

Those good intentions were misguided as fuck. Everyone wants to do something for kids especially based off of a property they love, homeboy just really fucked it up. I remember vividly him stating how much he was fan of the show and how much justice he was gonna do the show with the movie. Sadly, it didn't turn out that way.

basically. even from the interviews he did during the press tour for Airbender it was clear he not only did it for his kids BUT he really knew the source material quite well and is clearly a fan of it...

it just didn't work at all in the end...

If it does, then they've gone ahead and planned out what's happened after the three books.

The main thing giving me pause is that this has been filmed and has been sitting on the shelf for a while now. So much so that Howard has had time to revitalize his career with Empire. I dunno, maybe they were waiting to see how that panned out.

It's one of those things where, with Night at this point it's the game of anticipating the twist, and basically unreasonable expectations based on that. This seems like a decent premise I guess but there's two options - dude gets out or he doesn't. If it were a longer series you'd pretty much have to go with the latter, at which point the whole tension of not being able to leave is softened, making it a you gotta stick around through the possibiity until it's clear he's not gon leave and you can get to the good part. I wouldn't think audiences would be patient enough for that. But as a mini it might work. *shrug*

They read exceedingly quickly, and you should be done with them in three days tops. They're not great fiction, but they lend themselves to be translated into TV form.

"Pines" is fantastic source material for a serialized tv show, especially if they run with all three books.

Adding Night Dog to the mix killed that potential though...I have zero faith in Shyamalon to present anything greater than dog shit.

If you've seen the trailer, you may as well hold out for the last two episodes because the trailer tells 70% of the entire first book.

I see it's only ten episodes. I think this will get two more seasons of this gets good ratings. I don't see the whole trilogy being done in ten eps. Book one doesn't need ten eps but could benefit from ten if they clean up a few flaws from the book.
