They relied so heavily on "Freaks" for some of their more iconic scenes that if you hadn't seen that movie it wouldn't have resonated with you.

I think Hotel could be something fresh and new. I also think Gaga is going to be good.

Only problem is I really want to see a new season with the anti-Christ, which Jessica Lange doesn't want to do. At All

My problem with Asylum is it did too much and didn't really feel focused as much as result.

Coven was too light and campy, but was the best storytelling in my opinion cause it was so streamlined and everything was payed off.

Freak Show's big problem was a lot of it was boring. It also didn't help that almost all of the main characters were people I could give a fuck less about.

Season 1 was the best organized and developed all around. But a story about the anti-christ would basically be Omen. lol.

Season 2 was great because it was crazy. And there are crazy people in the Asylum. I think the different aspects made it seem like what is going on which fit in with the theme. the end left something to be desired.

Season 3 I loved because witches and New Orleans. Visually it was the best season, loved the cinematography when the witch hunter comes to the salon and "Oh freedom" is playing...intense seen.

Season 4 was boring as fuck.

Yea and I get that. But it had too much going on for it own good. You know it and I know it.

With that said, it did do a good job of making you feel like you're going crazy. Very well done on that end.

That episode shows you how Elsa built the carnival, how she got the smallest lady ever, and the foul shit that happened to Pepper due to Elsa abandoning her and how she ended up in the Asylum.

Pretty much is Elsa sells the carnival so the freaks don't kill her and she flees to Hollywood and becomes famous only to be blackballed due to her ego and killed by Edward Mordrake. In the afterlife, she is reunited and with everyone, is forgiven and is the main attraction of her show.

Meanwhile, Dandy is the one who bought it. He kills all the the freaks and takes the twins to get married. Evan Peters and Angela Bassett catch up with them and the twins, Peters, and Bassett get revenge by having Dandy try to perform the same trick that Harry Houndini died trying to do.

Angela marries Malcolm Jamal Warner and they have kids. And the twins and Evan Peter get married and are expecting a child.

they found that "porno" video of her with the German doctor (who happens to be the doctor from Asylum) that chopped her legs off. They were like you already a bitch, no one can deal with you, so this is basically it for your ass. But they were looking for shit because she was being a diva!

Really sad, I was really hyped going into the season because a carnival seemed like the perfect spot for AHS' sensibilities.

that it features some aspects of the Cecil Hotel...which is probably one of the most iconic cursed hotels in America. To pull from the Cecil Hotel's history would be great because they have a history of serial killers, suicides, rapists, and most recently, the strange behavior and disappearance of Elisa Lam (the elevator girl found in the water tower). Plus Black Dahlia stayed there before she died (which would tie in a bit with the previous season 1).

could be dope.

I haven't seen Gaga acting before so I don't have any expectations.

and there was no real character development, no really likable characters (Ma Petite and the pinheads are cool), the story keeps going all over the place.

The highlight for me was Dandy, because when you give me crazy, i want to see crazy and he delivered. Everything else was like ehhhh...oh wait Neil Patrick Harris shined in his few features on the show. But really I watched just because I felt stuck to find out the end. Which was disappointing.

http://collider.com/american-horror-story-hotel-matt-bomer-jessica-lange-cheyenne-jackson/

The closing night of PaleyFest, the annual festival celebrating the the casts and creators of popular and acclaimed TV shows, was dedicated to the FX drama series American Horror Story: Freak Show. While not much was revealed about what’s to come in Season 5 – American Horror Story: Hotel – there were a few tidbits and cast introductions.

Matt Bomer, who made a brief but memorable appearance in AHS: Freak Show, is the new male star of AHS: Hotel, alongside Lady Gaga. The actor, who has also previously worked with show co-creator Ryan Murphy on Glee and The Normal Heart, says that he can’t yet confirm or deny that his character will have a romantic relationship with Lady Gaga’s character, and would only say that the two have not met yet. However, he did say that he’s “ready to go to the deep end,” with whatever they want him to do for the show.

No location or time period was announced, but another new addition to AHS: Hotel is Cheyenne Jackson (30 Rock) who also previously worked with Ryan Murphy on Glee. He’s excited to be a part of the ensemble because it’s his absolute favorite show, and he was asked to be a part of it about a month ago. He signed on without knowing anything about what he’ll be doing on the show, but he said he’s also ready to jump in with whatever it turns out to be.

After having said that she would be finished with the show after four seasons, it was a no-brainer that the question of whether Jessica Lange might have since changed her mind would come up. Lange says that, while she has loved doing the four characters she’s had the opportunity to play on AHS, and she’ll be working with Ryan Murphy on other things, and that her time on the show is done.

Executive Producer Tim Minear, who was also joined on the panel by Kathy Bates, Michael Chiklis, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Denis O’Hare and Finn Wittrock, said that American Horror Story: Asylum and AHS: Freak Show became connected the moment they came up with the character of Pepper.

And even though Jessica Lange said that she will not be releasing an album (though she has done some fabulous musical numbers on the show), Kathy Bates revealed that she actually sang a Courtney Love song on AHS: Freak Show. The scene was cut, but will not be forgotten, as it will appear on the DVD.

AHS: Hotel is definitely lining up a very interesting cast, with Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer and Cheyenne Jackson, all of whom will be joined by some of current and previous cast members from the AHS ensemble (though who exactly is not yet known). It certainly has the potential to be another much-talked about season.

26. "Murphy on Hotel & Scream Queens *swipe*"
In response to Reply # 0

http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/ryan-murphy-offers-up-ahs-hotel-lady-gaga-scream-queens-details-at-comic-con-1201538735/

Ryan Murphy sat in on his very own mega-panel Sunday at Comic-Con with the casts of both “American Horror Story: Hotel” and “Scream Queens.”

Murphy, famously known to stay mum on spoilers, offered up a few details on the upcoming season of “AHS,” much to the delight of Con attendees in Hall H.

“Everybody on this side of the table are bad boy and girls this time,” Murphy said looking at cast members Angela Bassett, Matt Bomer, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson and Kathy Bates.

The actors, for the first time, also revealed their character names. Bomer will play Donovan, Peters is Mr. March, Paulson revealed she is Hypodermic Sally and Bates is Iris.

As for the most anticipated star on the new season, Lady Gaga, Murphy says she’ll also play bad — which is something the star requested herself. “She said, ‘I want to be evil,'” the show creator recalled of his first meeting with Gaga, who approached him for the show, as she’s a big fan herself. “I said, ‘You came to the write place.'”

“It was one of the weirdest things of my career ever,” Murphy continued, recalling Gaga approaching him for her part. “‘Horror Story’ has a lot of fans obviously and I get calls from some people…how it happened with Gaga is she wrote and said, ‘I love the show, would you consider putting me on it?’ And I wrote back, ‘Yes. CAPS CAPS…’ The best call ever is ‘Please wait for Gaga’…and she got on the phone and could not have been lovelier.”

Murphy said that the superstar will shoot all of her episodes during one window to accommodate her busy schedule. “She likes to do one thing at one time,” he explained, confirming that she will only be acting — no singing for Gaga in “AHS.”

The creator also teased Gaga’s style on the series. “When you work with someone like her, you sign up for something that is larger than life and I think that’s what you want,” he said on the panel. “Part of her role involves fashion. You want Lady Gaga to look a certain way. The designers have been coming out of the wood works with looks for her.”

The fifth round will also bring back even more familiar characters, Murphy confirmed, bringing truth to longstanding theories that all “AHS” seasons are connected. “Things are connected,” he said.” This season, you’ll see more and more and more of that. Characters from previous seasons will come check into the hotel.”

As for “Scream Queens,” Murphy also remained tight-lipped on the killer, promising that you’ll see that character in the first episode. “If you go back and watch that episode at the end, I think it’s very clear,” he said, shocking the cast who does not know the killer’s identity.

Lea Michele offered up her own theory, if her character Hester happens to be the murdered. “Maybe her neck brace is her motive — she’s like, get this thing off me!”

Jamie Lee Curtis, however, did reveal a detail that sent Hall H into an uproar: there will be a moment in “Scream Queens,” which is an homage to “Halloween.”

Curtis also applauded Murphy and the writers’ team on Fox’s horror-anthology, explaining that she was attracted to the project because of the quality of writing. “For somebody who spent her life in horror films that honestly weren’t written well it’s an honor.”

Though both “AHS” and “Scream Queens” are anthology series, Murphy says they’re very different shows with different formats. “The thing with ‘Horror Story’ is every year, there’s a new story, there’s a new theme and the actors play different characters.”

And for “Queens,” he says, “there are survivors that go on to a different location and the characters that you have grown to love, many of them will go on to the next season — and many will not.”

32. "This nigga Ryan Murphy wants 2 seasons in 2016 *swipe*"

Maybe he should focus on making one season great first. Especially after Freak Show.

http://www.inquisitr.com/2378142/american-horror-story-prepare-for-the-most-disturbing-scene-yet-plus-will-there-be-two-seasons-next-year/

It seems that the creative minds behind the American Horror Story television series are determined to bring the “most disturbing scene” yet to their latest installment, American Horror Story: Hotel. Because, apparently, Twisty the clown and the breastfeeding scene from previous seasons were just not horrific enough.

Co-creator Ryan Murphy recently told Entertainment Weekly that the disturbing scene will involve “Max Greenfield, Sarah Paulson’s Sally, and a little fella named ‘The Addiction Demon.’ ” The Addiction Demon will look like the character seen in the newly-released American Horror Story trailer below, but he will also be wearing a conical metal dildo. Murphy describes the Addiction Demon as follows.

“He is a representation of that and what people go through fighting addiction. It’s not done lightly or blithely. I think it’s very powerful and strong.”

While it seems the Addiction Demon certainly does hold the potential for the most disturbing scene ever on American Horror Story, for cast regular, Sarah Paulson, it is just another day at the office.

“None of it’s crazy to me. I walk in and I’m like ‘Hello conical dildo demon person.’ I don’t even think twice. I had two heads last year — I don’t know what you want me to say. Like there’s nothing anybody can do on the show to shock me anymore.”

Speaking of two heads, Ryan Murphy has also suggested there might be a yearly double dose of American Horror Story further on down the track. As he recently announced to Entertainment Weekly, there might be two installments of American Horror Story next year.

“Next year we might do a fall American Horror Story and a spring. We have to decide… We’re doing something that we’ve never done before on the show where we’re doing two different groups of writers rooms. Some of our writers will be bouncing around but a whole different group coming in late August. The next thing we’re crafting up is very, very different than this. Not smaller. But just not opulent. More rogue and more dark.”

It sounds like American Horror Story might be following in the footsteps of AMC’s hugely popular The Walking Dead franchise, who not only premiered a companion series this month, called Fear The Walking Dead, but also just announced there will be a half hour standalone that will tie in with Fear The Walking Dead.

American Horror Story: Hotel will premiere on Wednesday October 7, 2015, on FX.

I enjoy Gaga a lot.

- The window scene was the one "holy shit" moment for me

- Synchronized killing scene was weird, but I saw it coming so i wasn't caught off guard, but seriously I enjoyed it.

- Everyone here is GAME, these fools are committing.

- Homie was given a ton of the blue pills and then glued inside the vagina. That's a level of disgusting I didn't think they were going to just yet. I'll learn.

- I'm here for it.

-Wes Bentley's storyline reminded me of Hannibal (in a good way.) Easily the most compelling character so far.

-So, they're vampires, right? But they can be up and around during the day as long as they aren't directly outside?

-That drillbit/rape scene was officially too much. Not as disturbing to me as Zachary Quinto and Sarah Paulson in Asylum, but come on.

-The seduction/foursome/bloodbath scene was really well done.

-am I the only one who thought of the Dean form Community when the bald dude in the dress was leading him to his room?

"The premiere plays as if the anthology’s creators listed every element that detractors have bitched about under the heading “Stuff We’ll Do More Of.”"

The Murphy Way!

http://www.vulture.com/2015/10/american-horror-story-hotel-review.html?mid=twitter_vulture

American Horror Story: Hotel Is Tedious, Insufferable, and Occasionally Exhilirating
By Matt Zoller Seitz Follow @mattzollerseitz

If nothing else, American Horror Story: Hotel represents a brazen doubling-down. The premiere plays as if the anthology’s creators listed every element that detractors have bitched about under the heading “Stuff We’ll Do More Of.” The Shining, Village of the Damned, Don’t Look Now, Barton Fink (partly a horror film, especially the last act), Se7en, Suspiria, Saw: You name it, it’s in here, plus dollops of Edgar Allan Poe and Clive Barker. But don’t bother keeping a running list of everything AHS: Hotel is referencing, or all of the commercial-TV taboos it’s busting, because your hand will cramp in minutes. It’s an explosion in a pastiche factory so immense that people will be finding bits of homage in adjacent counties for years. About 40 minutes into the premiere, I wrote on my notepad: “I give up.”

Series creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are doing things here that are mostly not to my liking — not because I’m averse to them on principle, but because only a handful of modern filmmakers, including David Cronenberg and David Lynch, can pull off this kind of thing consistently well, and Lynch/Cronenberg they ain’t — but they’re doing them with such commitment that the result deserves to be respected, for its audacity and its indifference to what you think of it. I found the first episode (the only one sent out to critics; gosh, I wonder why) confusing, tedious, annoyingly precious, and often ostentatiously brutal, with even clunkier-than-usual dialogue (more so than previous seasons; consider yourself warned), but also darkly beautiful, deeply weird, and (sometimes) exhilarating. To watch even a few minutes of this thing, you must resign yourself to the fact that consistency of tone or quality — never values that have greatly interested the show’s creators — mean almost nothing this time. But it would be foolish to assume this is due to inattention rather than design. The premiere is filled with clues as to how we should watch it, from the glimpse of the German Expressionist dream-film touchstone Nosferatu playing on a wall at an outdoor screening to the entirely unironic presence of the Eagles’ purgatorial lament “Hotel California” on the soundtrack to the paperback of James Joyce’s Ulysses being casually read by the hotel’s concierge, a cross-dresser who for some godforsaken reason is named Liz Taylor (Murphy-Falchuk veteran Denis O’Hare).

Unlikely as it sounds, that’s a compliment, in its way. It doesn’t translate as I will never watch this show again, but, rather, I surrender to this show’s vision and will keep watching it with an open mind, without expecting it to be something it clearly has very little interest in being. Lady Gaga plays a character known as the Countess, who frequents the hallways of the fictional Hotel Cortez in Los Angeles with her lover, Donovan (AHS: Freak Show cast member Matt Bomer), and picks up strangers for group sex that ends, of course, in a bloodbath. Gaga is terrible here in the way that Madonna was terrible in a lot of her ’90s films, at once too poised and too blank. But she’s Gaga, a performer who’s as much an athlete and sculptural object as a singer-songwriter, so in this context, she works. Kathy Bates (another AHS regular) plays the brusque hotel manager who, after refusing to refund the deposit of tourists who have decided that the place is too far away from major L.A. attractions, leads them to their room (casually informing them that the place has no cell phone reception or Wi-Fi). Her guests smell a horrible stench and determine that it’s issuing from the mattress of their king-size bed — more specifically, from a surgical-looking scar in the center of the mattress, which, of course, being morons, they open with a steak knife. Sarah Paulson, the resident Meryl Streep of MurphyLand, plays a character named Hypodermic Sally, but let’s not kid ourselves: As her short blonde hairdo, withering putdowns, and nervously smoked cigarettes confirm, she’s really playing Jessica Lange, and she’s great at it. (Chastised for giving a drug buddy an overdose of too-powerful heroin, Sally growls, “I took the same shit and I am more than fine.”)

Wes Bentley plays a Los Angeles police detective who’s tracking a David Fincher–esque serial killer. AHS regular Chloë Sevigny, who co-starred in Fincher’s Zodiac, plays the hero’s wife; her inevitable send-off should be sponsored by FedEx. Of course the killer calls the detective on his cell phone and taunts him in a digitally filtered voice, and of course the killer chooses his victims according to a private moral code, à la Se7en’s John Doe. There are dungeons and torture chambers, and elevators that seem to descend for an awfully long time, if you know what I mean, and a faceless grey demon — listed in the credits as “The Addiction Demon,” for chrissakes — that has dagger-sharp claws and skin that seems to have been fashioned from brain matter, stomach lining, and pudenda. There are creepy blond children that seem from a distance to be twins, or at least siblings; they stand at the ends of hallways, staring at guests, and skitter away when confronted, like ghosts in a 1990s Japanese horror film, or like the murderous dwarf in Don’t Look Now.

This show is pure sensation and spectacle, marinated in all the parental warning letters that accompany the TV-MA rating. There are individual stories, or “stories,” all of which unfold within the hotel or are connected to it, but there’s even less evident connective tissue between them in AHS: Hotel than there was between subplots in earlier seasons. At times we seem to be watching bits and pieces of individual short films or music videos that have not been so much integrated as placed adjacent to each other, like candies in a sampler box (or rooms in a hotel), then divested of nearly everything but the sort of material you’d cherry-pick for a trailer: sex, violence, heroin injections, supernatural visitations, jump-scares, arch one-liners.

The opening episode is a parade of nearly self-contained setpieces, often set to gothic pop and rock songs that play out at full length as supernatural creatures rape mortals and feast on their blood and drift down hallways in gleefully gratuitous slow motion. At times it plays like Hannibal’s goth-punk midnight-movie cousin: a shabby palace of id-blast fantasies and nightmares. So much of it is choreographed and cut in the manner of 1980s music videos that they might as well have shot the show on VHS and scored it with Billy Idol and Bonnie Tyler. The violence is unrelenting, sickening, and sinister, and would seem merely tacky were it not infused with a sense of (mysterious, for now — and maybe phony, if the slave-torture scenes in Coven were any indication) purpose. There are tracking shots taken from extreme high or low angles and shot with fish-eye lenses that make the hotel’s hallways, windows, door frames, and staircases seem to twist and fold, M.C. Escher–style.

Like the helicopter footage in the second season of True Detective, a lot of this stuff is pretentious eye candy that might play better if projected on the wall of a nightclub, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t watch a couple of the more elaborate sequences twice, to admire the photography and editing, the actors’ Kabuki-bold facial expressions and toned bodies, and the marvelous production design and costuming touches, such as the Countess’s bloodred floor-length cape, which billows as she stalks through corridors. Much of AHS: Hotel is merely opportunistic, and some of it is insufferable, but every few minutes there’s a hint of the uncanny or sublime, and the very worst of it is mesmerizing because it’s so handsomely produced, and because it stands in opposition to most value associated with so-called “Quality TV.” You’ve seen it all before, and you’ve never seen anything like it. The show could crater as early as next week. I’ll be watching.

this show feels so contrived to the point where it feels like I'm being forced to watch it.

I do like the H.H. Holmes World's Fair Hotel reference. The daughter finding the brother but not saying anything about it in that instance. I know I would have been like "wait, that's my brother" right then and now.

Didn't like how gaga dropped old dude. I love Gaga but I don't get why her character is necessary. Then again it's the second episode. I'm not a fan of Paulson's character at all.

Way too much is going on in the hotel that doesnt' make sense.

BUT I still like hearing about the detective and seeing him at work and his interactions outside of the hotel. Way more interesting. I think that his story could have been used for an True Detective season...a man who lost his son and then finds him randomly but the son is grown up but we follow him in the time following his son's disapperance. that's a good story.

But we shall see. I don't get why he wants to keep staying in the hotel knowing that a lot of fucked up shit is going on. I just assume it's because he saw his son there too and he believes his daughter.

Give Bill Lawrence a check.

Wasn't feeling too much in this episode except for the middle school vampires. Although I thought sunlight was supposed to still hurt people with the virus (just not kill them,) so how were they able to walk out of the school like that?

Is there anything worse than having to spend eternity as a 13 year old?

she dead ass just died to be with her son (obviously she loved him more than anything else). Also I don't get why the daughter was so hostile toward the dad. Did I miss something? Was it because they didn't believe her about the brother?

Lady Gaga was dirty killing dude...I knew he would tho. They should have known too. She's selfish.

This season is better than last but I still feel like too much is going on. Good to see the Murder House. The doctor was so high didn't even flinch when he handed her that baby.

remember when they first got to the house she was like "oh you're going to stay now?" and stormed off. she was heated with him and had an attitude. her reaction to him firing the gun was beyond extra. yes she is a child but he was already standoffish toward him. She said to him "do you know how embarrassing it is to have your friend ask when you're going home and your mom not answer." this is not his fault but she is really mad about it. (so now that I type this out, that could explain her attitude when they got home) lol.

Now you gone add the Daddario out here?????!!!! That shit is fantastic and i'm here for it.

- Truly seeing how Gaga got to where she was, and how it all played out was fantastic. Then to see the wall be built and how they locked them in there. Dog that shit was cold blooded.

- The kills are good this season though

- Watching that little girl get hit by the truck made me jump up off the couch.

and basically I believe that John Lowe is the killer that he's hunting for. Especially after the conversation with the young girl, who was basically like I really like you...will you kill him? and he says yes and she kills herself. We already know she's tired of being a vampire but perhaps she realizes that once he's gone too, it's over. IDK. But he has too many instances of not knowing what's happening PLUS he was invited to March's serial killer party and why would they invite him if he wasn't a killer (since he wasn't the "featured guest").

Interesting episode. Excellent using Finn as Valentino. that was cute considering they killed Finn last week.

But YES to March hearing that convo and being like "oh hell no bitch, if i can't have you no one can either." i actually was surprised to learn they married and she was down with his killings. That was a nice unexpected bit of info.

one of the better episodes this season.

I was waiting for the whole serial killer episode. Like I said above, I was toying with that idea that John was the serial killer and as we now see, it all makes sense. I love how John told the black detective the whole story above how it all happened before killing him (reminded me of Frailty a little). So now we finally see how everythig is connected and that Lady gaga took his son to be the catalyst. great episode. I really really enjoyed this one.

I honestly could have done without the whole vampire story line this season. could have worked better just with ghosts and apparitions (like season 1). It was an unnecessary addition. Shit they could have done a kill each episode and it all comes together at the end when he tries to kill his wife and the detective.

Especially when they focused on Liz as I actually care about what will happen to her.

That opening scene with the elderly couple was heartbreaking.

One of the things I appreciate about Ryan and his crew is how they incorporate pop culture at the most random times. That 'Hot Line Bling' scene came outta nowhere, but funny.

I may let this series go after this season. I'm getting the same vibe I have with the Walking Dead and the Young and the Restless. If I miss a few episodes and come back, I'm not really missing anything. And even if I missed something, I don't really care. Not to mention the times when I'm actually watching the show, but then rewind four or five times, because I zone out due to boredom.
