If they were gonna go with the same character types, what would be good cast?

I sorta like:

Sandra Bullock
Amy Poehler
Tina Fey
Retta

or

Kristen Wiig
Yvette Nicole Brown
Sofia Vergara
Kat Dennings

He dropped these four names as ideas:
Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Emma Stone, Linda Cardellini

Clearly I don't think he was being too serious, but, hey, if you like the idea of casting this early......

I just kind of not into setting out to make an all girl GB. If the best story or a great story called for an all girl GB, cool. To decide in advance to do an all girl and then try to back into a good story with that artificial restraint, not feeling what seems like a stunt.

I kind of hope Melissa Mccarthy, Amy Poehler, Tina Fay, Aubrey Plaza, Retta - basically anyone from Parks and Rec. or Mike and Molly be left out. I don't want an unscripted Ghostbusters - I want a script and some acting.

I already thought she was made up of ectoplasm but as a disgusting blob all they'll need to do is colour her neon green with SFX.

In fact Rebel Wilson might try and steal the film as the Marshmallow Woman or would they be saving her for the inevitable sequel?

But what was McCarthy and Bullock's chemistry (and box office numbers) like in The Heat because I could easily see Sandy being cast to make this a strong opening draw.

Given the director was also behind Bad Teacher and we're talking "comedy" actresses then Cameron Diaz will be in the casting discussion.

Rose Byrne, Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph.

I'm surprised Jenny Lawrence wouldn't be linked to this already with the mix of comedy and action.

In response to Reply # 16

i don't really like reboots of franchises i was there for, but they waited just long enough not to be able to do a sequel, so at this point it doesn't really matter. "lady" ghostbusters is a stupid gimmick in itself, but the actual story and movie could be good, especially with talent linked to it so far. i just would have preferred a proper 3rd film. yeah, they probably will tie in continuity as a concession to fans, but it will be about a new generation of female talent.

I'd support Scully getting in there to kick some ass.

And I really think if Murray is back at all it should be as Venkman... b/c, why not? Reboot, fine, I'm cool with that, but throw the originals some love too, make them retired, or have them established a Ghostbuster franchise, something.

that was where my mind went with regard to continuity and fan appeasement, that the story opens up by explaining if not demonstrating that the original ghostbusters continued ghostbusting and eventually retired but not before establishing a base of continual operations, and these ladies are the new recruits in the company. i think a remake not acknowledging the originals would be taken as an insult. i guess since they don't even have a script then anything still can happen.

In response to Reply # 0

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/new-all-female-ghostbusters-cast-767610

The all-new, all-female Ghostsbusters are here.

Melissa McCarthy, who was already in talks for one of the leads, has signed on for the Paul Feig-directed reboot, and the studio is now negotiating with Kristen Wiig, as well as Saturday Night Live players Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Negotiations are ongoing but the quartet are expected to sign on as the specter-seeking, poltergeist-punishing and phantom-phollowing foursome in the reboot, which is eyeing a summer shoot in New York.

McCarthy and Wiig have worked with Feig before, both breaking out with the director’s Bridesmaids comedy.

Jones, who is currently on screen in Chris Rock’s Top Five, joined SNL early last year and this fall was promoted to feature player status.

McKinnon has been on SNL since 2012 and last year was nominated for an Emmy for her work.

The Ghostbusters reboot has seen a long development process. Original director Ivan Reitman was on board to return, but while original castmembers Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson had agreed to reprise their characters, Bill Murray proved elusive. Then Reitman bowed out of the project when Ramis passed away last year. Feig was then approached to direct and reconceived the project as a reboot starring an all-female cast.

Wiig is repped by UTA, Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.

Jones is repped by APA and Integral Entertaiment while McKinnon is repped by UTA and Principate-Young Entertainment.

Minds were made up the second they announced a Ghostbusters reboot starring women. All four women are very funny. The Reddit/Twitter trolls screaming "I'm not sexist, but..." are deafening.

Comedy trailer looks like a comedy trailer. They're rarely ever better than "fine." This one is the same. It in no way diminishes my excitement level for this project.

And it's going to be a massive fucking hit too.

That's just not what most of the vitriol online comes from. It mostly seems to be, "Why are they turning the Ghostbusters into girls?! What a cheap Hollywood cash grab!"

Since if there's one thing we know about Hollywood, it's that they make tons of big-budget action comedies with female casts.

I know it's convenient to say that the sexist public has scorned this movie, but maybe it's just as basic as "not that great of an idea to begin with and looks pretty shitty based off of one trailer."

People typically go see good movies that are marketed well, regardless of the sex or race of the lead(s). We know this is going to be marketed well, so if it's good people will go see it. Thus far it just doesn't sound or look that good. Can't it be that simple?

Yeah, it would be that simple.

Unfortunately, when plenty of people get behind plenty of reboots/remakes, and a large vocal collective bitches that Ghostbusters shouldn't be women, it's hard to distinguish whether it's merely a small but loud group of assholes, or if they're just saying what most of those who aren't excited about it are thinking.

It just doesn't look very good. I had an open mind but really most reboots suck to be honest so kinda expecting this to. It may not. I expected new Robocop to suck but ended up enjoying it. I prob won't see this in the theater but will catch it eventually.

I would have preferred that this timeline happened 30 years later and that the old events still happened than a complete reboot as well. Would make more sense with the cameos I think.. but that's probably the thing I most want to see with this, the cameos from the old stars. It would be this way if it was a new team of men btw as well imo, don't think its really anti-women, just anti-new ghostbusters.

Like, you could see the Ninja Turtles reboot would suck based on who was involved.

But the Planet of the Apes reboot has been terrific. Most people love the James Bond reboot with Daniel Craig. The Christopher Nolan Batmans were a reboot. I was upset we didn't get another Dredd movie, as I thought that had a pretty great reboot.

The ones that didn't work out in terms of quality-- Fantastic Four, Ninja Turtles, Jack Ryan, Robocop, etc.-- there are signs coming a mile away. Either the talent involved sucks, or the studio shows obvious signs of worry. I don't think either of those applies here.

I lost my reboot skepticism a while ago. It's never the act of the rebooting that makes a reboot suck, it's the people involved.

forgot Planet of the Apes, yeah those have been great and I prefer to the originals. Superhero movies I guess are reboots but Batman Begins was so different from the 89 Batman besides the darkness of it that didn't really feel like a reboot.

This feels too similar, will be good for new fans I guess but old fans are gonna be underwhelmed I think. The firehouse, hearse instead of ambulance, just seems too similar to the old one for me to care but will see, I may be completely wrong as its just one trailer.

Reboot as fake remake. Star Wars, Creed, Star Trek: Into Darkness.

The one part I didn't get from the trailer was if this was our universe or the Ghostbuster universe. Is it a world in which people know ghosts exist? I immediately thought that a world in which ghostbusting was as common as pest control would be intriguing.

That line hit me and the rest of Leslie's bits kind of irked me.

Mostly though, just felt like a poorly cut trailer. Still hoping the movie works but this definitely lowered my expectations.

Her schtick would be easier to take IMO if she was a scientist and McKinnon or Wiig were from the streets.

Ultimately, I'll get over it but this is the kind of stuff that I think needs to be brought up rather than making a big to do about the Oscars. It also kind of feels like lazy writing/casting - (granted, you can't really tell that from trailer so I could be jumping to conclusions here.)

Get that check boo

Sorry but Leslie Jones is not a nuanced actor. She is a loud talking comedian/writer for SNL. They could of went so many different routes that would of made a ton of sense. For example

A. Cast a young black actress as a college intern. Jurnee Smollet, Keke Palmer, Precious, any of them.

B. Cast the 30's black actress who can actually act as a scientist. Hell make Neil DeGrasse Tyson cameo as her husband.

C. Or cast leslie jones

In response to Reply # 0

http://www.ew.com/article/2014/11/05/ghostbusters-ernie-hudson

Ghostbusters has been an undeniable highlight in Ernie Hudson’s long, varied, and still-rolling career. But the experience of playing Winston Zeddemore—the fourth Ghostbuster, for lack of a better title—is also riddled with complicated emotions. Co-starring in one of the greatest comedies in movie history gave Hudson cinematic immortality—but it also lingers in his mind as a painful what-if.

On the film’s 30th anniversary, the 68-year-old actor writes about his bittersweet relationship with a beloved franchise.

I look back on Ghostbusters in a very fun way, but it’s got so many mixed feelings and emotions attached to it. When I originally got the script, the character of Winston was amazing and I thought it would be career-changing. The character came in right at the very beginning of the movie and had an elaborate background: he was an Air Force major something, a demolitions guy. It was great.

Now I’ve heard, over the years, that the part had been written for Eddie Murphy—all of which Ivan Reitman says is not true. But it was a bigger part, and Winston was there all the way through the movie. After a long audition process, I finally got the part and made the awful mistake of letting it be known that I really, really wanted it. In Hollywood in those days, you set your quote—so if anybody calls about wanting to work with you, they had to meet your quote. I had just worked with Columbia on Spacehunter, and my quote was pretty decent. For Ghostbusters, they came in at only half of my quote, because they said this role was going to make my career. I said to my agent, “I don’t care. Just take it, because I believe that.” So we go to New York and we rehearse for three weeks or whatever and I’m ready to roll.

The night before filming begins, however, I get this new script and it was shocking.

The character was gone. Instead of coming in at the very beginning of the movie, like page 8, the character came in on page 68 after the Ghostbusters were established. His elaborate background was all gone, replaced by me walking in and saying, “If there’s a steady paycheck in it, I’ll believe anything you say.” So that was pretty devastating.

I’m panicked. I don’t sleep that night. It was like my worst nightmare is happening. The next morning, I rush to the set and plead my case. And Ivan basically says, “The studio felt that they had Bill Murray, so they wanted to give him more stuff to do.” I go, “Okay, I understand that, but can I even be there when they’re established?” And of course, he said no, there’s nothing to do about it. It was kind of awkward, and it became sort of the elephant in the room.

I see this differently now—and I don’t mean any kind of animosity or anything towards anyone, certainly not towards Ivan or the guys. I was a single dad, and we were struggling to kind of hold on and pay the rent. I still needed to do this job. 30 years later, I look back at the movie and it works very well the way it is. I think the character works with what he has to work with. But I’ve always felt like, “Man, if I could’ve played that original character…”

Winston wasn’t included in the movie poster or the trailer and all that stuff. I felt, had the original character been in play at the beginning, that would’ve been different because it would’ve clearly been four guys. It would’ve sent a signal to the studios and very likely impacted my career in a different way. I think the fans see the Ghostbusters as four characters. I do some of the conventions, and I’ve met thousands of people, and I deputize kids as Little Ghostbusters. And the question I always used to get was, “Where does Winston go?” That’s the thing with Winston: He will pop up and then disappear.

They used to like to say that Danny’s the heart of the Ghostbusters, Harold was the brain, Bill was the mouth, and Ernie was the soul. When I heard that quote, I was blown away. And then I saw them on the Tonight Show and there was no mention of the Soul. So Winston could always disappear.

People say, “Well, he’s sort of the Everyman, he’s kind of the guy who helps the audience understand.” I love the character and he’s got some great lines, but I felt the guy was just kind of there. I love the movie, I love the guys. I’m very thankful to Ivan for casting me. I’m very thankful that fans appreciate the Winston character. But it’s always been very frustrating—kind of a love/hate thing, I guess.

I credit Ghostbusters, actually, for lessons I learned—how you deal with stuff when it doesn’t work out the way you want and you still got to keep doing it, how you keep a career going when it doesn’t turn to be all these things you dreamed of doing. I’ve been blessed, and I don’t want to make it a negative. I’ve survived this 30 years because of what I learned on Ghostbusters; you learn to adjust. What I did was I turned to TV. I literally did a different television show almost every week, going from show to show. I was a single dad and I had to survive.

The sad part is the thing that I thought that Ghostbusters would do, which is really kickstart my career into high gear, it never really materialized. I’ve never been told that I’ve gotten a job because of Ghostbusters; I think there have been a few jobs that I’ve lost . Since , I’ve been given and taken advantage of the opportunity to perform a myriad of challenging roles, so what am I complaining about?

Now 30 years later, seeing little kids with their Ghostbusters backpacks, seeing whole families dress up—the movie has a special place, and I’m very humbled and touched by it. I certainly am thankful to have been a part of it. I love being an actor. I still enjoy the process. I’m still hoping that I’m going to get that one great role that I thought I had in the original Ghostbusters. 30 years later, I’m still looking.

I don't even watch trailers anymore and I've accidentally seen worse this year alone. The appeal of the original plays a role-- but if you go back and look at trailers for reviled remakes of other much-loved movies, the numbers don't come close.

If it were a good trailer is say there's something to that. I'm betting it's a factor but nowhere near enough to cite misogyny as a root cause.

The bad trailer juxtaposed with the affection people have for the original are far bigger factors IMO.

Leslie Jones may as well be Kevin James and that attempted crowd surfing scene is no different from the incredi my stupid James movie where he tried to dunk and landed flat on his face.

Chris Hemsworth looks no different than any hot actress shoehorned into all the Happy Madison scatheaps for no reason other than to be hot.

Basically, Every note of this looks like Pixels.

All of that works against this flick before we even touch on the reverence people have for the original. It looks like dogshit on it's own but the fact that it comes across like a lazy cashgrab only made things worse.

They open with "30 years ago..." and then introduce a film in which those characters from 30 years ago don't exist.

And then it didn't get much better from there. And the whole Leslie Jones thing irked a lot of people.

Yeah, I'm sure it got a lot of downvotes from misogynists but it was a lousy trailer for a remake of a film that people are overprotective of.

Still probably skipping it though. This film kind of highlights the strengths and weaknesses of reboots - the only reason I'm remotely interested is the name Ghostbusters but remaking it brings up comparisons and a likely backlash.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMfUjDnpfRY

It also seems like this one listened to some of the complaints of the first trailer (Leslie Jones working on a machine of some sort early in the trailer; making a race joke) and tried to fix things. But it already has 500+ thumbs down.

Although, on one hand, it has been extra bad because of the Lady Ghostbusters thing, on the other, that first trailer was pretty terrible.

But yeah, based just off the trailers, it looks like a standard summer comedy that would be mostly ignored by the people hating on it if it wasn't a reboot of a beloved film.

because it's going to tank, and the think pieces will come pouring out - "Are We Not Ready for a girls-only Blockbuster???"

Gag me.

They've shown about a dozen different commercials and vignettes for this movie through the Cavs/Warriors game tonight and they all look like shit. Literally everything they show looks bad. And it's a bummer for these women because they're all pretty good, especially McKinnon who is probably the funniest woman poised to be on the A-list since, well, Kristen Wiig was poised for the A-list.

So I hope most everyone can just admit that the movie is a piece of shit when it opens like a wet fart. It's not that movie goers are blatantly sexist pigs, it's that the movie is going to be bad and you can't get away with making bad shit as easily these days.

In response to Reply # 104

And the marketing push has got to have cost a pretty penny.

I'd have to think that 200 million is the least it can make to begin to be considered a success. Although I'd guess the worldwide gross will have to be probably around 300 million for it to really make a profit.

The benchmarks would seem to be:

$154 million: Production budget

$180 million: Bridesmaids

$242 million: The original (no inflation)

The original with inflation made over 600 million but I don't think anyone expects this movie to be a top 10 grossing film of all-time so that's kind of out the window.

Most of Wiig/McCarthy's others don't have major overseas appeal, but overseas audiences do love them some CGI, and that's definitely been a big focus of the ad campaigns.

I'm expecting right around 150 domestic, over 300 worldwide. Money to merit a sequel, basically. Especially if the critics are kind (and I'd kind of be surprised if they weren't, as Feig's others have done well in reviews).

I wasn't a fan of the Tron remake but the original is pretty damn hokey; the Daft Punk soundtrack is probably the best thing to come out of either film.

But the nostalgia thing isn't going away. It's been going on for decades now (Remember when someone thought a non-mod Mod Squad remake was a good idea?) Also, Fuller House reportedly did better number than any regular show on TV and is the highest rated Netflix show. We'll be seeing a full on saturation of remakes before it starts to cede for a few years (until the next generation's films are ripe for remake.)

You could look at the general reviews and deduce that the critical reception wasn't exactly great but it did numbers.

Jump Street is a fantastic franchise with legs.

Jupiter Ascending was an original movie that was absolutely terrible and bombed in a big way.

The recycling isn't the issue. A good movie is a good movie.

There are plenty of movies that bomb that aren't 1980's retreads but they all tend to bomb for the same reasons.

The "I'm not afraid" addition was lousy and the song should have just ended with Missy. Hell, it probably should have just started with Missy.

So many artists out making fun music, I'm just not sure how you go with this song that started out like a generic song you'd hear from a fake mediocre band in a TV show or commercial.

It just feels like a godsend since it's a break from Fall Out Boy and their constant "I'm not Afraid".

There have been some bad songs (including a certain Oscar winner) but there have still been enough quality ones that you can't just give the bad shit a pass. Wiz's Furious 7 song was great. JT's new one from Trolls is a song of the summer. Let It Go was inescapable.

And it doesn't help that their remaking a classic, which honestly is corny as shit but infinitely better than this song.

If Ray Parker Jr. huffed Axe Body Spray and pounded Red Bull every day since the 80's, this is the song he'd probably come up with.

Most movie end of film songs are throwaways; I would have thought they would have put a little bit more effort into this.

It's someone who's liked all of Feig's work to date, so take that for what you will-- but she really liked it, said it was very funny. Said it's obviously different from the original in several ways, but wasn't really bothered by the filmmakers trying to do something slightly different. Left me optimistic that someone funny who I trust actually saw it and enjoyed it.

I guess MoviePass people are more important than press since they were let in first. The press line was 8 different lines rolled into one.

Movie started (15 minutes late) and we get 15 minutes in before someone realizes it's not in 3D and the Windows 98 taskbar is at the bottom. Had to restart the whole thing in 3D.

It was humid as fuck in the theater.

People got aggressive when told that seats were held for other people.

A lot of members of the press didn't get in.

As for the movie, I'll come back tomorrow. I'm tired and irritated.

Yo this shit was funny for the first half of the movie Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon, and Chris Hemsworth has me rolling. But the jokes then lose steam in the second half of the movie.

There's ten minutes in the climax where the four ladies are working together Avengers style to fight the ghosts and that was cool.

The ghosts look cool.

Even though the screening was a nightmare to endure from beginning to end and Sony had no idea what the fuck they were doing, the IMAX 3D presentation was dope as fuck. I liked that they played with the widescreen frame and 3D in unique ways. I sat through the end credits and it said they specially formatted for IMAX.

Speaking of the end credits and wild entertaining and make sure you stay till the very end.

The cameos and fan service was wild arbitrary though.

Most importantly tho, this introduces GB to a new generation and girls now have heroes to look up to. I'd gladly sit through two more of these.

there's no way a movie with this cast wasn't gonna be funny. it's funny. and for anyone who gets bored, just watch kate mckinnon's facial expressions in every scene, and that's your movie.

there's ammo for both sides here though. the ghosts are all G-rated and look like any CGI monsters from any movie. the amount of painfully obvious green screen, especially at the end, was... painful. the cameos from the original cast were disappointing. and overall it's just not a home run, more like a stand-up triple. anyone who has an agenda against this already, because feig has soiled one of our greatest and most cherished american works of art that only got one (lame) sequel and a brief cartoon then we never heard from it again for 25 years, those folks will have enough here to hate on.

but let's be clear. this will not flop. it's hilarious. it's fun. it's a great time at the movies. this is as good a cast as any action comedy this year, and they deliver. and after the end credits, they set up a potentially darker sequel that i already want to see. we'll need more popcorn for the haters after this dominates the box office and gets a sequel than we will for the actual movie.

Saying that's it's a bad example of feminism or something. I don't know. All of the discussion about it feels like mindless think piece fodder written by people who think they need to have some kind of opinion on. It's a summer movie. Laugh a few times and move on.

I do love that the hate made it a much bigger thing that it would have been than if the dicks just shut up about it and didn't give it so much free advertising.

it was really funny in the first half. But the laughs slowed down more and more the longer the movie went on. Second half had zero laughs which was disappointing. The blonde chick was awesome. I still cant stand McCarthy though. The CGI was FANTASTIC! The ghosts looked really really good. The final battle was great. Not better than the original but the hate was definitely not deserved. But IMO most of that was Sony's fault. Good sized crowd in my theater too. Lots of little girls.

Like Frank said, easily better than two. I'd like to see the longer cut though because there's a weird jump into the third act. My guess is Wiig quit after they were faux-arrested and there was a plot line there that they jettisoned. Because her being in bed and not with them and then showing up to save the day seemed like something was missing.

Also, the dance number that now plays over the credits is completely set up in the film but doesn't happen. Thought that was a weird choice, but again, I'm guessing cut for time.

It was a lot better than I thought it was gonna be. McKinnon carries the whole film with a slight assist from Hemsworth. I usually hate McCarthy but I thought she was great in this. Jones was Jones and I like Jones so Jones being Jones is a good thing to me. Only Wiig I thought came up short. Which is weird, because I'm a fan of hers. It seemed like she was trying to play a Tina Fey role (side note: how great would this movie had been with Fey/Poehler as Wiig/McCarthy??).

There was something weird I noticed though. Not that GB is an action film or anything, but they didn't really do anything, save McKinnon goin' ham with the dual pistols. And that stood out because of how great that sequence is. It made every thing else pale in comparison. I dunno. Maybe it was just me, but the "threat" never really felt that dire. I'm sorry to compare it to '84, but that felt to me to have a lot more in the "stakes" department. I guess I'm saying, the villain was kinda trash. As were the cameos imho (with the exception of the Harold Ramis nod. That was beautiful).

But like I said, I enjoyed it. Even with all those nitpicks, I'd give it a solid B.

I loved the original, grew up on it and have watched it countless times and I enjoyed the hell out of this.

My daughter and I went to see this and she enjoyed it too, and yes she's seen the original as well. Just a clear case of people being too rough on this before they even got a chance to check it out. Made me laugh a bunch of times and told a pretty good story. That's all I was asking for out of this and it delivered. Can't wait for the next one.

Big fan of most of the cast, and while I enjoyed the originals, I don't hold them up to be some sacred, untouchable entities that can't be revisited or rebooted.

That said, I thought the trailers for this film looked terrible. But once the reviews started coming in, it gave me a little bit of hope, and I got tickets to see it opening night in IMAX 3D.

While the 3D was cool, I thought the movie was trash. I can see this being a great film for kids, but beyond that, I just thought it was terrible. I didn't laugh once, and there were so many jokes that just fell totally flat for everyone in the theater. Real cricket moments to obvious punchlines.

In all, I think the biggest problem was the script. Shit was like 'Ninja Turtles' level bad. I'm conflicted because I know that this film doing good box office numbers means that maybe we're inching just a little bit closer to having female-driven action/comedy films, but....not like this, fam. Not like this.

The women are fine. It's funny - but slow and not too funny.

Also no one is the Bill Murray from the first film - they're 2 Dan Akroyds, 1 Ramis, 1 Hudson, but no Murray.

Leslie Jones was good (I'm not usually a fan.)

I just didn't have that "something is special" vibe that the first film had.

Plus the "villain" didn't make much sense. He's trying to open up the vortex - and when he does and unleashes the other dimension it consist of ghosts that 4 people can completely defeat in the third act? He's very passive - and why would the ghost "do his bidding" - and how does he get "powers" that none of the other ghosts get??

I went to use the bathroom and I thought at when I came back I missed a split in the team where Wiig left for some reason - but here I see that it wasn't really explained in the movie.

Bill Murray was playing a character out of a Wes Anderson film - I though he needed to get back to the stripped down charm he used to have.

This is a mediocre movie.

I hope Fieg writes another Ignatius MacFarland novel and maybe they can make that into a movie.

Edit: I took my friend and his girl along . His girl was super bored (a reasonably intelligent 35 year old) and left and just hung out in the mall. She thought the movie was super boring.

In response to Reply # 0

I enjoyed this movie, but one part of the end battle made no sense at all.

My understanding (as with the original) was that the "guns" they use were just like a lasso to get the ghosts into the containment units. They couldn't 'kill' or re-kill the ghosts. But in this movie they were shooting the ghosts and slinging them around like that was doing something. At the final battle they weren't trapping the ghosts into any containment unit, so basically there should have been like a hundred ghosts all going after them constantly.

They didn't even attempt to explain this part away.

Other than that, I thought it was solid. I enjoyed the principle cast (although based on Lady Dynamite, I think Maria Bamford was supposed to get the Kate McKinnon role, and I can't help but think Bamford would have been better, although McKinnon gave the best performance of the four principle actors).

I don't get the backlash to this. I think it was solid, but it was put up to unrealistic expectations because for some reason people think the original was perfect. It was a funny, solid PG summer movie.

I'd like to see a sequel with a better script and making more sense. Like somebody else said, weird how they want from wranglers to gun(wo)men with no explanation. Not enough jokes landed but I enjoyed watching these women work enough that it worked as a light action movie with some comedic elements.

I think it would have gone a long way in making the ghosts more interesting. It honestly was one of the things that made the original so memorable. (And scarier.)

Overall, the one thing the internet losers were complaining about turned out to be the only novel element of the movie.

Also, I felt like Jones and McKinnon both struggled anytime they had to deliver expository lines.

I love the 4 leads so I was pretty disappointed that they didn't have better dialogue to go off of. I think it was about a half hour before I had a hard laugh. Visually it was great, especially the ending. If you're gonna see it, see it in 3D.

On a personal note, the "Columbia" scenes were filmed at my college and that was cool. I even did standup in that lecture hall once.

It was cool though, I enjoyed the leads a lot. Kate McKinnon stole every scene she was in other than the Les Dog slapping Fire outta McCarthy in the possession scene.

I really would've liked to have seen the original kats just play their characters, it would've added that something that could've really helped this film. Or at least in my opinion.

It was fun.

Would love a sequel with this cast though.

McKinnon was the best part, followed by Leslie, followed by Hemsworth.

Wiig and McCarthy didn't get that much interesting to do, even though they were nominally the "stars." Michael K. Williams and Matt Walsh felt sort of wasted, but it seems like most of their scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. I have no idea why Andy Garcia was in the movie. The cameos were okay, but most, except the first, felt pretty forced.

I figure the PG-12 rating reigned in some of the humor, but it was still funny enough. Action wasn't enthralling, but truthfully, the action wasn't the strength of the first movie either.

I would be interested in a sequel. Don't know if that shipped has sailed or not.

It didn't make nearly enough to warrant a sequel.

It's a shame because I would love to see a sequel, even if it's just to get more of Kate McKinnon has Holtzman. Except for a big plot hole I thought it was a surpringly enjoyable reboot. And I know many people that saw the movie multiple times in the theater and were hoping for a sequel.

Oh well.
