"Poll question: Best Oscar-winning Villain?"

Some others excluded by me, due to the six choice limit, and because I thought the other choices were better or were more of pure popcorn villains, instead of antiheroes or actual monsters or bad people who weren't actually the movie's antagonist.

Det. Alonzo Harris (contemplated switching this out with Nurse Rached, but couldn't do it.)

Idi Amin (seems too heavy compa

Little Bill Daggett

Anyway, just made the post to vote for Annie.

Poll result (18 votes)
Hannibal Lector (2 votes)Vote
Anton Chigurh (3 votes)Vote
Annie Wilkes (6 votes)Vote
Col. Hans Landa (0 votes)Vote
The Joker (6 votes)Vote
Nurse Rached (1 votes)Vote

Best actress for Louise Fletcher.

Watched this again a couple of years ago; goddamn I hated that character with every inch of my life.

I felt the same sense that there was no escaping their evil. Both made me horrendously uncomfortable. Not quite afraid but desperate.

Look at how many sequels and TV spinoffs that character got.

I actually prefer Chigurh just because I think it's easily the best movie of the bunch. But I wouldn't argue against Hannibal votes.

He's become such a fixture that I can't remember if I ever found him all that scary or disturbing. It's like he's too fun. You felt like Hopkins was putting on a show.

Misery might not be on the same level as the films some of the others were in, but it holds up, and happens to revolve around a for-the-ages performance by Bates. Worth a rewatch if it's been a while.

More than once I have imagined a show based around Hannibal, Annie and Anton all living as roommates, sitcom style.

Out of those listed, I'd probably go with Lecter by a hair but they're all great.

Maybe DeNiro in Cape Fear. Or Robert Mitchum in Cape Fear. Lots of oscar-worthy villain performances.
