Soderbergh I've watched:
I've seen Out of Sight and Limey, but they were so long ago I don't remember them

Erin Brockovich @@@ 1/2 hating on this film, which these writers low key did, is lame
Ocean's 11 @@@@ if you dislike the first Ocean's you may need to reevaluate your life. "Stay mad bros"
Ocean's 12 @@ 1/2
Ocean's 13 @@@ 1/2 though it's rather ridiculous and Al's crazy eyed lip licking yell is OD here, it works.
The Informant @@@ started great, ended very mediocre
The Girlfriend Experience @@ 1/2 I think if Sasha, one of my favorite porn actresses, wasn't the lead, this would’ve been VERY good
Haywire @@
Contagion @@@@ my favorite Soderbergh film
Side Effects @@@ 1/2 damn good.

Rambo just roid raging and homicidal indifference, Haywire would come at that slur-faced mo'fucker with a little tact and intelligence, put her over the top.

If I'm being honest, Haywire v. Jason Bourne is a bit of a coin flip, but she'd definitely be better than Chris Cooper.

Haywire would completely wreck each and every member of the Fast & Furious cast, but I mean that's a bit too obvious...

Particularly "The Limey," which is one of my all-time favorites.

Big fan of "Traffic" too. As the article mentions, that is a pretty crazy good run.

Outside of Out of Sight, The Informant, and *most* of Traffic (god, the Erika Christensen stuff is embarrassing, and it almost sinks the entire film), I find his work to range from pleasant to terrible.

it seem most folk love a film or two and then have very lukewarm reactions to the rest

the authors here, seemed a bit too celebratory of his work, but overall it came off like a thought piece

i'd love articles like these to appear more

i'm about to invest in Che today on Netflix

That shit was pretty excellent IMO.

Even when his movies aren't great, I usually enjoy watching them for his craftsmanship, which I think is generally strong. He's not flashy, but really understands what he's doing. I have Side Effects and Haywire in mind here...

Mostly because I find his craft in particular to be rather cold and emotionless. I prefer filmmakers who aren't nearly as technically gifted who throw their all emotionally into it.

As I said in the reply to Longo, I'd love to see something like this on many filmakers

but Soderbergh really seems to have a wide range of styles/content that is highly admirable

Not only in terms of money

But in terms of being a shitty project, ill conceived
horribly directed

Not sure how he ever got another job quite honestly

Soderbergh is the filmmaker we want to like, but
he's just not very good

He seems to have the right sensibility

Seems likeable and personalbe

Right perspective on things

But his productivity is me

And Che was an astonishing piece of shit

Soderbergh just cops pleas for that

I'm gonna need a real masterwork from him

article states it went from Soderbergh to Malick, (thank god Malick did not finish it) and back to Soderbergh. That he was struggled with it.

it went bootleg before it went theater in South America, and that made it a struggle to get the cash.

And it was a great TWO movies, you're just full of shit.

Looking over his list of films....I'd say it's amongst his best. Sex Lies and Videotape showed a lot of promise but I'd agree that most of his work has been underwhelming.

But yah....what makes the Che movies so bad to you?

but you'll probably get a steady stream of solid-to-very good projects.

>I'm gonna need a real masterwork from him

I agree he doesn't have any mass-accepted masterpieces, but he's got an extremely wide range of styles and subject matters that span multiple decades and cross multiple genres. He's workman like in his approach. His movies are (mostly) unpretentious. He's done glossy mainstream shit, gritty low-budget shit, and artsy experimental shit, all to varying degrees of success. When Hollywood ain't interested in his shit, he goes to TV. He seems to makes the shit he wants to make when he wants to make it.

He's like The Roots of contemporary filmmakers. (Which I actually intend as a big compliment.)

Guess what I'm saying is, I'm cool with watching a bunch of shit from him in the C+ to B+ range (with an occasional A- thrown in) because the majority of it will likely be interesting, well-acted, well-shot and cut, and worth my time.

I recognize the dude for what he is and I'm more than happy to support his work on those grounds.

Never seen CHE though.

with "Contagion"- much better than "Side Effects",SE really let me down I had high hopes for it but it fell short to me.But "Contagion" had great performances from multiple cast members and was a very truthful viral outbreak film.

cmon ppl.
"Schiz" may be the funniest/goofiest/coolest thing he's ever done (he also stars in it). not even sure ppl know this film exists >>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2E7ArARdaE.

"Solaris" suffers from too many comparisons to the original, but when viewed independently, is a freaking awesome piece of sci fi, beautifully directed, and Clooney's best acting in...ever.

those two flicks alone showed range enuf for me to be on dude's nuts.
