Years of anticipation and I'm very satisfied with this trailer right now. I pray this movie doesn't disappoint.

With that said, is it the best Mad Max film? No. But George Miller really pushes the limit here. So much in fact that I'm surprised no one died making this. The shit that happens in this action wise is insane.

DO NOT WATCH ANYMORE TRAILERS!!!

Even though this is gonna be PG-13, it still has the aggressiveness of the first 2 that was sorely missing from Beyond Thunderdome.

This is essentially Furiosa's story told through Max's eyes. It takes place some years after Beyond Thunderdome, so same Max just tougher cause ya know Tom Hardy.

I can't wait to see the finished product. It still has a lot of work to be done. Mad Max fans rejoice. This is the movie we always wanted since the end of 2.

I'm gonna buy 20 tickets to make sure the other two sequels happen.

"Yeah, Mad Max is not a superhero. We don’t defy the laws of physics, it’s not a fantasy film. It’s basically a western on wheels. And I think if people see, I know when I see too much CG, that sort of takes me out of the experience. You want to have that sort of almost, I’m not going to say documentary experience, but you want to feel it like you’re really immersed, like it’s really happening. So we decided to literally do every car that’s smashed is smashed, every stunt is a real human being, even the actors do a lot of their own stunts, and so on."

Dude gets it. Take my money now.

Yeah, half way thru and have to agree. I haven't seen any of these in over 20 years and thought this was better but mainly remembered the actual thunderdome fight with Master Blaster.

16. "Mad Max: Fury Road Became the Most Surprising Feminist Triumph of the Ye..."
In response to Reply # 0
Sun May-10-15 01:07 PM by bwood

I told people this was a feminist movie and I got laughed at. Joke's on you suckers.

http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2015/05/mad-max-fury-road-eve-ensler-feminist-triumph

An iconic feminist consultant ensures that Mad Max: Fury Road won’t be your typical testosterone-drive action spectacle.
by

Joanna Robinson

Anyone who’s seen the first three Mad Max movies knows the drill by now. There will be fun post-apocalyptic fashion (chain mail if we’re lucky), a number of car chases, daring stunts, and, at the center of it all, a laconic, macho road warrior named Max Rockatansky. (Played this time around by Tom Hardy.) But before you chalk all this up to another testosterone-fueled day at the movies, you should know that new female characters played by Charlize Theron, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Zoë Kravitz, Riley Keough, Abbey Lee, and Courtney Eaton have the potential to flip certain action movie tropes on their head. In fact, Mad Max director George Miller enlisted the help of activist, feminist icon, and Vagina Monologues author Eve Ensler in order to ensure that Fury Road wasn’t just another story about helpless female victims; it’s a story about empowered survivors.

There should be little doubt after the first few trailers that Theron’s rough and tumble character Imperator Furiosa is not to be trifled with. But action driving the film involves Furiousa (and Max) rescuing five former female captives with less intimidating names such as Toast, Fragile, and Splendid. Is this just another iteration of a worn-out trope of beautiful women as prizes and precious cargo? Splendid herself, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, says no. In an interview with Esquire, she raved about the opportunity to work on her character with Eve Ensler:

"We were so lucky that George arranged for Eve Ensler, who wrote the Vagina Monologues, to fly in and work with us girls for about a week. We did extensive research with her. Eve herself has had a very intense life. She’s spent time in the Congo working with rape victims and women who have had unthinkable things happen to them through the power of men's hands. We were able to pick her brain for a week. She told us the most tragic stories I’ve ever heard in my life, which gave us so much background to our characters. We really wanted to kind of showcase that. It was a privilege to have her around to make these characters something more then just five beautiful girls."

There’s no way to know for certain, but it’s possible Miller recognized the limitations a male director and three male writers faced in trying to cover every nuance of a story about female exploitation and survival. And it’s no wonder, given some of the harrowing story details Huntington-Whiteley revealed, that Miller would want to approach some of Mad Max: Fury Road with a delicate touch. She told Esquire:

"Splendid was just so cool to play because she’s so conflicted, so layered. She’s pregnant through rape and she has been held captive her whole life. It was so interesting to think: how would she feel about carrying this child? Does she have these natural maternal instincts that a lot of mother's feel? Is she enjoying being pregnant? Is she having that time of pure love or is she angry? Does she have any regard for this child? What does she feel about that? I think that I never really knew what she was going to feel because I don’t think even she would know. I think it was all very confusing for her. She was conflicted. That’s why a lot of her actions in this film are reckless."

But fans of the original trilogy shouldn’t worry. Just because Miller took care to develop his female characters, that doesn’t mean Fury Road will be lacking in any of the eye-popping visuals or brooding heroism they’ve come to expect. (In fact, Tom Hardy recently revealed that he’s signed on for at least two more films, so it’s not as if Max is going anywhere.) It would seem Miller feels there is room for both over-blown spectacle and nuanced character development. How about that?

That Miller is also willing to shake off the dust of the original trilogy and subvert the tropes of his own iconic franchise speaks volumes about his commitment to deliver a story a little more in keeping with the times. Saving Max’s victimized wife in the original and Tina Turner’s villainous Aunty Entity in Beyond Thunderdome, the Mad Max franchise is pretty lacking in memorable female characters. (To be fair, the franchise is pretty lacking in character development of any kind.) All that is about to change when Mad Max: Fury Road speeds into theaters on May 15, carrying with it a new generation of heroines. Lord knows we don’t need another hero.

Shitter than 34th street.

It's small and dirty. So many of my press screenings were on this IMAX cause the person booking it, didn't have not a fucking clue.

But for Mad Max on IMAX, I'll go. I wish I was in LA cause I hear the TCL IMAX is one of the largest in the country.

The biggest IMAX is still at 68th & Broadway.

Thanks for the info. That 68th Street IMAX you're referring to is the only IMAX theater I've been to. I'm not a movie buff at all, but I just happened to luck out on seeing Inception and Gravity at the same location. Just to show you how out of touch I am, the last major box office movie I actually saw in a theater was Gravity. I don't want to count the 93 Til Infinity documentary I saw recent because that was a pretty small screening. If you have the chance, please peep the documentary out if you haven't already, but that's besides the point of this reply.

The substandard conditions you're describing may explain why plenty of tickets were available when I was on the fence for copping a ticket when I read your post about NY and LA being the only spots for the IMAX experience. Ultimately I didn't cop because I'm more of a person that's drawn to a good story in a flick than impressive special effects.

I'm assuming Avengers is why this isn't getting more IMAX exposure across the country.

Even in 2D (which I prefer nowadays anyways unless the filmmaker does great things with the 3D) this movie is worth your $12. I'm gonna see this many times with different people as I want them to experience this film.

Many critics have said the same thing I did after I saw it. Many, many new filmmakers are gonna be heavily influenced by this just as today's top filmmakers were with the original trilogy.

I will mos def peep that doc though. I love Souls of Mischief.

More than likely, I'll try and see this early Saturday morning to save some skrill and get that nice somewhat cheap NYC matinee ticket pricing. And it sounds as if I should see this in 2D form since that 34th Street IMAX doesn't sound like it's worth the money.

This was a movie I was psyched to see. I get what a technical achievement it is, but that didn't translate to the excitement I expected.

Just IMO though.

Unfortunately me and mine are too. Would have been nice if she had at least enjoyed it. I don't think she watched Mad Max when she was young though, so that wouldn't have helped.

she doesn't get the Fast movies, is bored with most superhero movies, and was underwhelmed with my favorite movie from last year (Grand Budapest); but, about 30 minutes in, I looked over at her and she was in a trance. Just the right style for both of us.

The big looping plot. Go out. Come back again.

Some action elements dragged for me.

Too long strapped to the front of the car. Got boring.

Dangling over the side of the truck and held onto by Furiosa. Felt like a re-hash of that earlier element.

How many times are we going to watch a motorcycle jump over the truck and bomb it before some thinks to take a shot at them. Felt like a contrived look what we can do with stunts exercise.

The shit clamped on his face was distracting for me and stayed there too long. Plus he reminded me too much of a squinty Gerard Butler with it on.

One of the coolest vehicles was the tank car. Don't get to see it explode? Meh.

How long do I have to watch Max on the war rig bonnet spitting fuel into the air intake? Move it along please.

Did the bike gang even feature on the ride back? Can't remember.

There was probably more, but that's enough.

Just IMO though.

Surprised how Miller showed how much the world has 'evolved'. If the first movie was people dealing with the apocalypse a decade after it, this shows how human socities have grown with heavy sci fi slant. Just great ideas as far as world building all around.

In addition to gold old explosions, gunfights, and crazy motherfucking stunts for pretty much two hours straight.

even if it's in 3D. The 3D is not bad at all. I prefer the 2D version, but if all that's available on a big, loud screen is 3D then do 3D.

I'll be seeing it in IMAX 3D tomorrow myself.

but I wish I went in cold. The whole time I was watching it, I was hoping it would hit that sixth gear and take off. My roommate told me about the Rotten Tomatoes score and the reviews of Theron's performance and I couldn't just settle in and watch the movie.

Technically it was a great, well-realized movie and hopefully it will be influential on modern blockbusters as far as the treatment and writing of heroines and the real world setpieces.

I'd give it an A. Just was hoping it would be A+.

The storytelling - plot and characters - was bare or concise, but I would have liked the movie more if the background of Furiosa to the concubines of Immortan Joe or the importance of the concubines to Immortan Joe was described in greater detail.

(Did Immortan Joe not have a successor to his kingdom unless he sired another child? Why was Furiosa so close to the concubines?).

I just wanted more background. Maybe I was wanting some melodrama when the movie was a more straightforward action movie.

As much as I liked Max's and Furiosa's relationship was was really happy they didn't have a romantic moment, I didn't feel like I knew either of them. They seemed more like plot devices than characters, although both were heroic in their own way.

The plot also seemed like it could have used some more clarity. It would have been nice if there was a better sense of suspense to the outcome.

It sounds like I'm picking on the movie and I likely am. But when bwood posted that Mad Max was the movie of the summer, I was really wanting to enjoy the experience.

Again it was good, the hype was just too much for me.

The cinematography, set design, locations, effects and whatever else went into the film's production were absolutely astounding. I just felt the writing was missing, like the characters weren't fully fleshed out. I kept thinking to myself, I wish these muthafuckas would get out the car so we can get to know them. Without going into detail, I felt it was technically and visually breathtaking, but lacked a soul. To me, it doesn't compare to the signature action films of decades past: Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Matrix and The Dark Knight.

pretty much all of things you list below as things you wish there were MORE of, are the exact things i came home praising the film for NOT putting more of in

you said:

>The storytelling - plot and characters - was bare or concise,
>but I would have liked the movie more if the background of
>Furiosa to the concubines of Immortan Joe or the importance of
>the concubines to Immortan Joe was described in greater

>movie.
>
>As much as I liked Max's and Furiosa's relationship was was

>
>Again it was good, the hype was just too much for me.>

and on the opposite end, me and my wife thought the movie was actually perfectly balanced on ALL of the points you listed above.

I personally thought that the characters we defined VERY well, by actions and reactions. That was part of the MAGIC of this movie to me...story and character was expressed using ALL of the tools at hand, (not JUST by relying TOO much on over explanatory dialogue as a lot of movies do). To me this movie didn't waste ANY asset available in telling its story...it used every little thing allow you to get what it was getting at. I didn't 'miss' ANYthing about these characters or this world, ya know? i was there, i was RIGHT THERE with them. I was wondering and figuring it out WITH them. There was just enough dialogue to help paint the picture and pull me into the world and get me genuinely invested into these folks and care. Once you have me in & caring, well thats the key isn't it? Once I'm in, i'm in for the ride, (and what a hell of a ride!)

this is prob gonna sound odd, in my opinion, in SOME cases dialogue & plot is over-rated....and in some cases, over-dialogue & over-plot can weigh down a movie...and, in some cases 'over-dialogue' is the 'easy way' out instead of finding creative, natural or unique way of communicating a story or motivations...i won't name any names, but there are some very popular films that, for me, are wrought with over-dialog and over-plot and they just feel too weighted to me....they don't feel as natural....they feel like someone is trying to explain and tell me something instead of letting ME experience & discover it myself...

but again, it comes down to a personal taste thing...

i know I personally came out of this Mad Max film feeling SO COMPLETELY satisfied and gleeful. Not JUST on the action sense, but on the character and story sense as well.
There was a sense of 'wonder, amazement' and complete satisfaction that i rarely get at movies these days...only the great ones...

imagine *****SPOILER**** what he could have done with that c-section scene, or the amount of graphic amputation that was likely happening with the cutters and chainsaws flying. I quite enjoyed it. What a world they created. Love how every vehicle and weapon served its own unique war purpose rather than just a collection of gigantic guns driving around.

If I'm nitpicking, the characters could have had alot more depth. But then that would have taken away from the almost nonstop action, a trade that's not worth it in this case.

George Miller just came back and took a crap in every director's mouths.

Incredible lead also, Charlize crushed her role.

The story was as basic as a straight line, but the action getting there was astounding.

Comes back to seize the "greatest living action director" crown with force.

And for those wishing for more character development: in this film action = character. Characters define themselves by their choices, not by sitting around a campfire telling us about their motivation. Max and Furiosa change as characters but not through their dialogue.

Loved the undercranking (aka fast-motion). Such an old-school effect but with such great impact. So prevalent than when he'd cut to 24fps it *felt* slow-mo.

Literally the coolest thing I've seen in cinema in awhile. Like I said above....everything served a different purpose. It wasn't a lazy approach of one big gun followed by a bigger.

Every moment and detail was thought-out. Each vehicle had its own back story personality. The minor villains were more interesting than most flicks' main bad guy.

The casual revelation of how the Citadel works was so efficient. You figure out how the whole society works through images and context.

Loved the moment with the rifle. In a lesser film it would have been Max making some amazing shot then Furiosa making an even more amazing shot, back and forth until someone wins and the other person delivers a clever quip. Instead, he gives up the gun, she fires from his shoulder, then they exchange a look. Says it all.

It's true that both Max and Furiosa become more entwined emotionally as the movie went on, I wanted *something* to pull me into the world of the characters more. I liked that Furiosa and Max's connection wasn't romantic; they were more like comrades.

I didn't care for their lives and the stakes they were under. Maybe my palatte has changed and I need a more standard reason - loss, grief, hope - to pull for characters, but the way I understood the movie, that didn't click for me.

I still think the film was really well made, I just feel like everyone got the good beer at the party and is all happy and I ended up with Natty Light and am not as buzzed as everyone else and have nothing to look forward to but an unfortunate hangover.

Grief, loss, hope were all there. Just subtext that fueled their actions. Not "let me tell you about why I do what I do" dialogue.

I have a hunch they'll resonate more strongly with you on the second viewing.

I wouldn't have seen this if it wasn't for your insistence in the prior messages. I wonder how long it took for the director to plan out those action sequences and also what grade of drugs he was on. I hope this isn't spoiling too much, but the car hood ornament scenes and the car metronome scenes defy any and all logic in terms of how both scenes were pulled off.

I am fully committed to seeing any sequels this movie brings forth.

**edit**

Did you know this flick was going to be good without seeing any screenings? If so, how did you know it would be high quality?

I've never seen any of the previous Mad Max films and would've felt weird about seeing this one because of it. The ridiculously good reviews this is getting obviously helped, but I probably wouldn't have even checked for the reviews on this if it weren't for how hard he went for this movie.

This isn't the Sports board, but if it was, bwood would have one of the biggest agenda W's ever.

I might have seen five minutes of one of them when I was a kid in the 80's when they played on local broadcast non-cable TV here in NYC, but I'm certain I've never seen any of them to completion. Definitely think I'll hunt down some of them online and watch them later tomorrow.

Well, I've been looking forward to this film for 15 years. When word came out that the studio assistant they sent to set to control George and the budget and he came back and told WB to lay off, I knew this was gonna be crazy.

And then when word came out that the higher up saw the dailies, they gave George an extra $50 million to reshoot and do what he originally wanted to do. That's when I knew.

And then the Comic-Con trailer...

And then when I finally saw it back in December.

For me, it was all about how someone who is blind survives in this place. How does someone weak survive the apocalypse? He survived because he was blind – because he lived deep in an unlit mine, where it was an advantage to be blind."
He then gives a little information regarding where the character came from:

"So, deep in the mine, he would sit there and eat rodents and get the water from the sea bed -- and he would also play his guitar where no one could hear it. One day Immortan Joe came past, and someone heard the music. Then he was called upon when needed a bugler or the bagpipe -- someone who helps call everyone to war."

George Miller Says He Courted Heath Ledger To Lead 'Mad Max' In 2006, Reveals Title For 'Fury Road' Sequel
By Kevin Jagernauth
May 18, 2015 at 2:42PM

Blasting out across the media landscape like an atonal chord blasted from the flamethrowing guitar dude in "Mad Max: Fury Road," the buzz around George Miller's return to the desolate landscape of the future has been electric. Already, folks are wondering what's next. We've long known the director already has two more stories mapped out, and while he hasn't disclosed any plot details, he has teased that he's got a title for what would be the followup.

“We’ve got one screenplay and a novella. It happened because with the delays , and writing all the backstories, they just expanded,” Miller explained on The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith about the genesis of the followup films. And while he hasn't gotten around to storyboarding them —give the guy a break, he only finished 'Fury Road' a few weeks before it opened around the world— he says the next entry will be titled “Mad Max: The Wasteland.” So ruminate on what that might mean for the next adventures of Max Rockatansky. But in an alternate universe, 'Fury Road' would've already been released with a different actor in the lead role.

One of the reasons 'Fury Road' took so long to happen was that it was just one obstacle after another in trying to get it made. The film was originally slated to film in 2001, but the 9/11 attacks drastically affected everything from the power of the American dollar to insurance costs for the production. And not long after Mel Gibson had his well publicized meltdown and the role of Max needed to be recast, one of Hollywood's brightest talents at the time was considered as such.

“Every time Heath would come through Sydney, he’d call in and we’d chat about Max,” Miller told The Daily Beast. “He had that same thing that Mel and Tom Hardy have —that maleness, charisma, and restless energy, which you need to play a relatively still character. The world lost someone great when he went. Tom was the next to walk through the door that had that vibe.” Indeed, Hardy does a lot with very little dialogue-wise in 'Fury Road' and yet still commands the screen.

But what do you think? Could Ledger have pulled it off if everything had worked out? Let us know below.

Though I wanna point out that if anyone shits on the Fast & Furious movies because of the dubious physics, I just wanna say that Tom Hardy gets stabbed in the fucking face and keeps going like nothing happened.

Saw this again with my boy last night at AMC Prime at Times Square high as fuck. It was the best moving going experience I've ever had. They put subwoofers in the seats so the seats rumble. It's OD loud as fuck (Dolby Atmos!!!). The screen is HUGE and the picture is crisp as fuck.

It was awesome!!!

Also, I'm still HAF roughly 16 hours later.

Tommorowland will not end the AMC Prime run for Mad Max, so there isn't any need to rush due to that newer flick.

I saw Mad Max for a second time last week on the IMAX 3D screen and while the sound was good, it is a crying shame this isn't on the IMAX screen at the Lincoln Center location. The screen at the Time Square location was standard size and took away from the experience a little bit. The 3D was pretty good, but the limited screen size detracted a but from the overall experience.

I hope the blu-ray for this is packed to the gills with extra features. I almost wish I had a 3D TV for this blu-ray, despite the fact that technology is dead from my understanding.

That said, I'll definitely be seeing it again. The action was unbelievable, the characters were cool as hell (especially Charlize Theron as Furiosa), but the story was rather basic... A to B, B to A chase scene.

It has grown on me since seeing it though, so maybe that was just a knee jerk reaction.

I guess I'll be in the minority. I just didn't get it. I was bored. The movie was technically beautiful and had a rocking soundtrack. I just didn't care and the action didn't grab me. *kanye shrug*

What's the longest they go without action? Like five minutes maybe? Probably when they meet the old ladies. I love that they just drop you in the world, don't even need to explain it. BOOM. Everything's crazy and people need water.

Good 21st Century update of an action classic that came out fresh and original. They don't make action like this any more. This type of movie deserve support from action flicks fans everywhere because it's a dying breed.

The characters felt very fleshed out despite having minimal dialogue or exposition. This is coming from someone who's never watched a full mad max movie (just bits and pieces) The story is straightforward but the stakes were so high that it worked.

One question I have...what were they spraying into their mouths before they kamikazed themselves? Was it just silver spray paint or something else?

wifey wanted to go see it one more time before it left our local theaters. our daughter was in town and she hadn't seen it yet,

(i've seen it twice already, my wife has seen it three times...)

the only showing was a late showing which would have us not getting home till the wee hours of the AM. since i had done some yard work earlier i was beat and due to eating too much stuff with hot sauce my stomach also wasn't feeling quite right...initially i was like, 'nah, ya'll just go, i've seen it a few times i'm good, and since i'm kinda tired i might fall asleep in the theater'...

but by the time it was time to leave my stomach had righted itself, so i said....'ah what the heck, i'll go one more time for the road'. if i fall asleep in the theater, so be it....

yeah right. like anyone with a pulse is falling asleep in THIS movie!

man, even on this THIRD viewing (for me) this movie STILL had me getting pumped, hyped, cheering and seeing new shit that i missed before...

its official, i am in love with this movie.

pure n solid straight-up un-apologetic n gorgeous thrills & fun that satiates on all levels....

i ride with Furiosa all the way dammit!

do yourself a favor and see this one before it leaves the big screen...its so worth it...

Gonna see this 2 more times b.

http://www.slashfilm.com/mad-max-fury-road-imax-3d-re-release/

Mad Max: Fury Road finally came out on Blu-ray this week, after hitting VOD last month. But as much as we enjoy watching Max and Furiosa battle Immortan Joe from the comfort of our own living room couches, it’s just not the same. This is a film demands to be seen on the big screen if at all possible. And starting next weekend, it will be again. IMAX just has announced that Mad Max: Fury Road will be returning to its theaters for one week only starting Friday, September 11.

The long-gestating sequel from George Miller originally debuted in theaters May 15. To date, it’s made $374 million worldwide — not bad, but not great. It’s been a much bigger hit with critics, including those of us right here at /Film. Whether you missed the train the first time around, or whether you just want to go for another ride, head over to the IMAX website for tickets and information.

and was very very very disappointed the DVD didn't appear to have any commentary tracks on it. I was looking forward to buying this, but no commentary tracks is no bueno. I may look into buying this digitally, but I'm not too keen on doing that since I like to hold onto media in my hands when I spend dollars on it.

...but dayum..i just got the blu ray and am watching the extras .... and these extras are really REALLY well done and EXTREMELY satisfying...they really get into the creative process which i love...creative origins, creative choices, the detail of the world building, the character building, the rationale & motivations. The cars, the stunts....good lawd the STUNTs....

and damn, it all looks SOO friggin good in HD...

i haven't even watched the movie itself yet....just most of the extras.....but its already worth the price.....THIS is how extras on DVDs should be done....

thank you Mr Miller. My favorite most satisfying blu ray purchase in quite some time for sure!

as it was when i saw it in July, Mad Max is madly overrated. OK this is what i think took place. Some babymamas decided to escape from an evil babydaddy, they travel down this long road and then decide to travel back up the same road and overthrow the evil babydaddy's kingdom. This is garbage. See babymamas are not all that smart today and they damn sure will not be any smarter in the future. Oh yeah there is a guy named Max who tags along during the road trip and he makes a few grunts here and there. lol

I could say that Fury Road is an average action film at best. But i would be lying if i did that.
This was some insane shit, lol. I could barely understand what the hell anyone was saying. The plot sucked. The profeminist angle is ridiculous and the movie basically ignores the main character, Max.

SO, in summation, you're a manly man and women are dumb and you're mad that women were portrayed as halfway smart, tough, and capable.

Now, I agree the movie sucked, but that's because it was an overdone train wreck, not because someone actually took some time to create strong female characters. I don't think they did a particularly good job with that aspect but you're a caveman if you take issue with the attempt.

And that's another problem: the only fully realized character here was the action. There's not a single person in the movie who feels like an actual person. They all feel like descriptions of people, not actual people.

I was not pleased with this film because Max appeared too weak. Maybe i am wrong. His character was poorly written. What were the flashbacks about?

I have no problem with strong female leads but let's face facts. Furiosa really did not have much of a plan. Ok she did outrun those thugs. Now if she had really been smart she would have known her childhood home was gone. Shit, the house i grew up in is gone, lol.
Next thing you know they are back on the road, they defeat soldiers and overthrow evil babydaddy.

Can someone please explain how they did this?'nevermind

Oh i get it now. See if you are on the big screen you can be what you want. You can be a strong female rebel leader with no real military strategy ot plan. See on the big screen you can be tough and smart and magically overthrow evil babydaddy kingdom, lol.

I guess i should be grateful that Hollywood creates these characters, lol. See i need these films so i can feel good about myself, lol. See i love seeing a woman do impossible feats on screen and bossing Max around. Oh i feel great.

Hooray for girl power.

i might do a part 2.

I get why people wouldn't like it. With that said this has (strong) themes on survival, slavery, redemption, vengeance, men being the cause of the collapse of the world (the constant asking of the question "Who killed the world?") and of morals.

Also finding peace is Max's main motivation as well as finding a home which is what Furiosa and the five wives are trying to do.

There's so much history that's given that adds to the various characters' backstory. I mean Furiosa's main motivation is her whole backstory.

And the history to the cars as well. I mean Immortan Joe's car says everything about him as a character. Same with Nux and his obsession with going to Valhalla.

I did not hate it though. That is important to understand. I enjoyed the movie, and respect the hell out of George Miller in being able to film a mostly practical stunt and effect action film in the desert. In fact, I hope he pulls a Best Director out of his ass at one of the big award shows. This dude is 70 and previously directed Babe and Happy Feet... And Mad Max. Respect.

But, it did not draw me in like I thought it would. This thing was hyped up to be THE action film of the generation, with a great cast and cool characters. It had that, but it was also missing something... A story.

A lot of the hype surrounding this was that it was a long chase scene. That sounds really cool. But there was no draw. The characters leave point A, run across the desert, to point B. They get there, realize the error of their ways, and go back from point B to point A. That's it. Getting there was fun, acting during that was fun, but I'm supposed to be wowed and put in awe at a situation that simply sees the characters going back and forth across the desert? And rank it among the best action films of all time? Perhaps my expectations were too high, perhaps I do not have a history with the other Mad Max films (I've seen them long ago), perhaps I just don't get it, perhaps I need to give it another spin... Like I said, I enjoy the film, I just would not even rank this as the best movie of the year, not even Top 5, Top 10, or *ducks* Top 15. It's good, not great.

Most of the praise that has been thrown its way stems from the action direction and acting by Theron, both of which I do think stood out.
