the first season was irritated because they went the tried, true and typical serial killer route...

and it was clear for the most part, fans weren't interested.

well this season, they seem to be going more for the atmospherics and have totally dropped the serial killer story line from season 1 and so far, it's been good.

Franka Potente IS AMAZING...I can't wait to see what she does this season...

But when the serial killer angle became the route I started tuning out, specially since characters on the Mexican side became cartoony, and the wife became a main character

I'm hoping they ditch all references to last year's serial subplot, and the last scene of the first season in particular.

I saw Episode 2 last night (Comcast had it up for an advance showing)...

and OMG Eleanor Nacht (Potente) as the Cartel's Fixer is fucking insane....sheesh, like her mere presence is terrifying as hell.

But, damn, Franka is so good in this....

But was it fully explained how the cross dresser/reporters storyline was tied into the main storyline? Or is the cross dresser storyline pertaining to the missing sister from last season?

The cross-dresser/reporter storyline pertains to the dead old lady that they found in the last season finale. She apparently died of natural causes (I think), but had $600 million stashed in her house. The cross-dressing guy is one of her relatives. The reporters discovered that all of her relatives were granted asylum in the U.S., but were then kicked out as soon as the woman died.

It ties to the main story because the woman was helping transport/launder the money for Fausto's drug cartel. Her dying and the DEA seizing the money is why they sent the assasssin and her assistant across the border to talk to the banker to find out what happened, then kill the guy who was supposed to take the money out of the house, but didn't.

..chock full of gratuitous violence, but its damn-near poetic in its presentation.

marco ruiz and sonya cross continue to deliver.

as a matter of fact, the only thing annoying about this show are the reporters. then again, reporters are like flies, so that makes perfect sense.

Folk *STAY* sleeping on The Bridge. It's been quietly killing it this season. i.e. arguably one of the stronger dark and atmospheric suspense thrillers on tv right now....

if this incantation of the second season on FX mirrors the second season of the Euro version of the show? This season is much better than the first in that I don't have much of a clue how things will resolve themsevles, outside of the Sonya Cross character somehow getting rescued.

i suppose their point is to help us piece the connections together but they're mostly just an annoyance to everyone.

i like everything else. with Fausto, Elanor, Sebastian, Marco, etc..

also, it sucks that Charlotte Milfwright is gone but her jerk-off boyfriend gets to live

I'd like to see more of marblemouth and Eva. he's an interesting character who's really being underused this season.

First, let me say that I really enjoy this show, especially this season. It's definitely improved from Season 1 to Season 2. The problem is, as you alluded to, that they don't know what to do with about half the cast.

Charlotte had about zero to do except briefly "inform" on Fausto and then get killed. Marblemouth and Eva haven't appeared on the show in weeks. The reporters haven't really served a purpose beyond showing that there's a CIA conspiracy supporting the Cartel; I assume the season ends with them publishing their story.

And the new characters not named Elanor have been kind of useless too. Agent Kubiak shows up, only to get killed. Jack's only purpose was to get Sonya to show some ass/side-boob and to drive a wedge between her and Hank, which ended up being a narrative dead end.

Elwood Reid has talked about how bored he got with writing the serial killer plotline in Season 1, and I agree, it was dumb and boring and the show is much better off without it. However, the plotline pulled together all of the show's cast in a way that this season has failed to.

So yes, I really like everything involving Fausto and Elanor and the Cartel and the Madrigal stand-in company, but they're kind of all over the place outside that storyline.

suffered very very badly from the choppiness you mentioned in your response. For the first time this season, the episode felt very disjointed to me, especially with the inclusion of the storyline involving Marblemouth as you called him. Also, seeing the female reporter dump her girlfriend missed the mark because the show didn't spend enough time showing how deep two were committed. Felt like a wasted scene for something that was supposed to have some gravity.

With all that said, I'm curious to see how things unfold this season. I'm hoping one of the storylines doesn't get the typical Hollywood ending of the protagonist winning so there some element of surprise there.

she made a big deal of needing to talk to Eleanor and all she does when they meet is tell her that she has the ledger? was there any point to that? I hate when writers resort to making characters do stupid things just to move the plot along.

she seems distant and cold, but underneath she's very emotional and makes dumb decisions, yet both sides aide in her figuring things out within her self and the investigation

the show is as much about low-intensity war on the border, as it is about how people, regardless of race deal with trauma

..every character on this show has some serious demons.

didn't appreciate how neatly wrapped the season finale was, but i understand.

caught upto episode 11 today

they cooked this shit just right. the did away with trying to tie the violence against women on the border to one "psycho" typical thriller story arch BS, and are dealing with a more international and societal ill/exploration of the killings.

they've also done away with much of the cartoonish representations of the Mexican bad guys that began to grate me by the end of season one.

for as much bitching as we do about how women characters are written on most shows, Eleanor and Sonya are two of the most richly developed and dynamic women on tv. mirrors and morally analgous to each other

the shoot out in the house, revealing most of the season was back story, fucn crazy. Glad Hank made it out alive. tuff SOB is one of my favorite characters on the show. sucks sexy ass Charlotte met her death tho

I still don't know what I think of Linder and Eva

we drive up the view and post count bitching about how shitty The Strain is, making fun of SOA, theorizing on what would make Tyrant better, "sticking with it" on The Leftovers, yet we twiddle our thumbs with The Brige, The Americans, and The Knick

but anyway The Bridge > Tyrant > Halt & Catch Fire > The Strain > SOA

But people are always gonna watch what they are gonna watch. It is like staying in a bad relationship and looking forward to bitching about it.

The great ones most times get overlooked

The Good Wife should also be on the list (folk watch it here but literally most twiddle their thumbs at it because it's not "cable prestige", when it's snatching the wigs off of MOST of the shows you listed folk faithfully watch KNOWING how shitty the show is...you can also add Hannibal and Orphan Black to that list (though OB has its detractors and a all over the place second season that tied together but could have been way more tighter than it was)

but, niggas stan HOARD for shows like Continuum, Supernatural and the like so I don't really put much stock in folks opinions here...

Expected, but it still sucks. The numbers, even for basic cable, just weren't there.

Nope. It was getting barely 1.5-2+ million viewers a week.

Newer shows like Tyrant and The Strain were getting twice that and that probably lead to The Bridge being cancelled (or part of the reasons).

Part of me is praying that Netflix swoops in and picks it up for another few seasons...though I doubt it.

Sad, because the show was WAY BETTER AND MARKEDLY IMPROVED this season by miles....

Hopefully Netflix pulls that Hail Mary pass and picks it up for a final season.

If they can do it for that trash called The Killing, then they can definitely do it for this.

I guess I'll have to check out the Euro version of the show now. I think it's on either Hulu or Netflix. Hopefully Netflix does pick up the US version though. I'm curious how the situation in Mexico gets resolved.
