"Spinoff: The Quicksilver effect"

One of my first thoughts when I saw DOFP was Avengers 2 has a lot to live up to.

Second thought was Flash could potentially be a dope movie for WB/DC.

Please discuss.

You basically can't have any standoffs because Flash/Quicksilver will be able to just outrun everyone/everything or just throw something at an insanely high speed.

Honestly, I think the Quicksilver scene created more problems than it solved which is why they just said goodbye afterwards and didn't keep him around since most every conflict would have been dealt with... quickly.

It made for an awesome scene but if the character is going to be around for longer, I think he'll be slower than Quicksilver was in that scene.

SPOILER:

He was so fast that he basically froze time. It would be one thing if he achieved what he did running balls to the wall, with barely a pico-second to spare, but he did it casually with no sense of danger.

if his power is like Quicksilver basically slowing time, then it will be very difficult to craft a story around him.

SMH...

I worked on a script for The Flash movie before it became a TV show and no it wan't difficult to craft a story around as I and the othe writers on it had YEARS AND YEARS of stories to cultivate from.

I mean, just saying that you made something that would work on film doesn't say much. Every person whose made a superhero film thinks that and most of them didn't work so well.

We had a whole sequence of him trying to run on ice thwart a threat, having him trying to take care of multiple threats at once while giving him a formidable enemy through the Weather Wizard among other things.

Wouldn't his walking still be pretty damn fast. Quicksilver was pretty damn nonchalant in that scene. It wasn't like he was rushing to stop the bullets.

With X-Men's Quicksilver, use his ego to bait him into a trap-- catch him off guard then restrain him.

Or they could use the old Lose/Weaken Powers storyline-- inject him with a serum or expose him to a chemical that slows him down.

Or they could control the environment of the conflict and do things like make the surface of the ground icy and low-friction.

Or they could take the easiest route, and give the bad guys someone just as fast, and let them chase each other around.

Or just introduce a weakness we don't know about-- he tires out after a certain amount of activity, or he needs to ingest a certain number of calories to sustain his speed, or what have you.

I think since Flash and Quicksilver haven't been mere conflict-ending gods in the comics that they won't be in the movies.

Plus, from the Avengers 2 tease, they'll have to explain how they caught Quicksilver in the first place-- that should introduce some sort of weakness right away.

It looked to me like they had used Loki's staff to create those two.

There are ways around it if the Flash has the same Quicksilver type power but I'm not sure how many conflicts you can have based around ice surrounded areas. And he'd have to have Bond-esque villains who constantly trap him but keep him alive.

But comic book movies have gotten away with a lot of ridiculousness so I'm probably just overthinking it.

It should be relatively easy to set up a "flaw" that can then be exploited so he can't just be godlike at the end.

Quicksilver's top speed is about Mach 3. He can break the sound barrier but he can not do what he did in the movie. Flash can do that.
