"Is this Nic Cage's rock bottom? Now starring in "Left Behind" film"

Taking the lead role in the film based on the end-of-days uber Christion book series, (also a "reboot" of Kirk Cameron's straight DVD opus) is not a good look. At all.

Christian movies are doing well in the box office lately so they'll be gaining more traction. I wouldn't be surprised to see more bigger budgeted Christian features with recognizable names.

which made me realize, oh, their families actually paid to go see the movie.

left behind is an interesting move because it really has been played out as a franchise. there can't be anything new to this to the audience...they're literally just paying to go see a film because jesus.

if it does okay in theaters, that says a lot about the market potential.

This is actually a good marriage for both sides, at least on paper, as he legitimizes the franchise as something that can actually make money as a mainstream franchise and it gives him a chance to helm a potential tentpole. If he can take this past 100 million, it may lead to some better mainstream opportunities for him.

I know Christians tend to consume anything labeled Christian, but big time tentpoles with mainstream appeal aren't exactly a hallmark of the industry. His presence definitely ups the ante. He'll bring out more of the Christian audience and attract more mainstream viewers as well.

It definitely has potential to crash and burn, but the upside is big for everyone involved, especially Cage.

which is horrible considering how big the following was for that series when it was at one point.

That movie should've been a big summer blockbuster on some 2012/Armageddon shit.

Where's Roland Emmerich when you actually need him?

Three weeks since its release and it hasn't made back it's extremely modest budget; it's made $13 million and it cost $16 million to make). It never found any audience, much less the "Christian Movie" audience: it's not even sniffing "Heaven is for Real" or "God's Not Dead" numbers. And many reviews said the film somehow managed to be worse than the version starring Kirk Cameron.

Ain't nowhere to go from here but up for Cage. "The Runner" may end up being a critical darling. But I'm guessing he's going to need the "Croods" sequel or a third "National Treasure" movie to make him a box office draw again.

i did not even know he was starring in that til about a week ago. Damn He is not quite at rock bottom but he is on his way. I don't keep up with celebrity gossip that much but imo i think that white lady got something to do with it.

This type of thing in't new, just look at Brando. That guy was all washed up before he made his magnificent comeback in The Godfather. At that point Marlon was only working for the money. He cared little about the art. He could still be great even when he was slumming tho, Apocalypse Now is proof of this.

I think Cage is just taking whatever comes along for the money. At this point i would bet against him making a comeback.
