It was good - a departure (short term plot) from the characters and story lines known in the first season and it has a sucker punch of an ending. I can't wait to watch the rest of season two. I'm going to try and not binge watch a show for a change and spread it out.

I liked the depth the writers gave to the story lines and context of Tasty, Poussey and Black Cindy who is hilarious. All their backstories totally line up with their current characters.

Vee Parker - the star of the season, not only brilliantly acted but very believable character who was deeply manipulative and had been doing this for years. Good back story too.

A wasted opportunity with Brooke SoSo, young AsianAmerican in prison - boring story lines.

Pensatucky why did she not mention God at all this season, seems a huge departure for her character to go from being a Jesus freak to rarely mentioning her faith. All the meth heads are so disgusting.

The COs and guards remain strong viewing. Caputo (the gay Edge) has been excellent. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Natalie Figueroa gets jailed and becomes an inmate. That would be amusing and compelling. How she would react to the other girls and how she would be treated by the guards. You just knew her husband was fucking that young twin political consultant.

Pornstache was awesome while he was back, I don't know how he'll feature again but they need to make it happen.

Like Daya says John is a pussy and boring.

Healey, you have to feel sympathy for the dude, he tries hard to get people to like him, yeah he is a loser but he cares.

Piper's family are way too eccentric and Polly and Larry getting together was unbelievable. I hope they don't appear in season three. All the outside of prison characters really slows the story telling of the season down.

I thought the decision to mainly exclude Alex was a mistake - surely she comes back in season three? Alex was essential viewing in season one, why take her out of the action in season two? A mis-step for me.

I forgot to mention Crazy Eyes becoming Vee's enforcer was handled very well and believably; total manipulation. Good partial back story, can't wait to see what she did to end up in jail.

Plus we got to finally see Morello's Christopher. What a nut case Morello is, stalker!

The Figueroa blow job on Caputo was brilliant.

And I'd like to see more of the CO Joel Luschek

even though I started out hating Piper she grew on me towards the end of season 1. But the supporting characters are so good. They really shined out in front this season. The show has really become a show about the prison and not Piper. Really loved the season.

co-sign - once the decision was made to go away from Piper (and by not featuring Alex) and for the show to be multi character based rather than focus on a primary character OITNB became far more interesting to me.

I think the problem this show will have going forward is the same as shows like West Wing, Sopranos, Mad Men have by about season five which is too many characters = too many spinning plates which need to constantly be kept spinning = too much going on with too little screen time. You could see this in the second season with a couple of characters who featured less than they did in the first season e.g Sophia with the prison salon.

or transferred or even killed. It is a legit concern though. Hopefully they handle it well. But this was a solid second season. I think I enjoyed this second season more than I did house of cards.

Vee was too much. Shit didn't seem believable. They were all happy go lucky in jail, and then the next minute shit turned into Oz on estrogen.

I have no idea why the black chicks felt like they needed Vee. Then, needed her to protect them. From what? A wild game of charades. Then all the black broads start turning on each other.

I agree. It wasn't that great. A lot of unbelievable developments in the plots and with some of the characters as well and too convenient storytelling. The overall story arch never seemed riveting or intense. I did enjoy it but I think season 1 was better by a good margin.

Everything to do with Polly, Larry and Pete was ridiculous..

I did really enjoy seeing more of the back stories. But what's going to happen when those run dry? I really enjoyed Gloria's story. And overall I like her character a lot, I thought she'd be more of a power player this season, maybe, hopefully the next one.

I imagine we'll see in the third season a bit more of Piper and Alex and then possibly Piper exit the series by the end of season three. The writers can decide to keep Alex in jail if need be. She can have her own story lines with other females.

It seems to me that once the inmates leave the jail they become less integral to the show. I mean if Red gets out of jail what do they do with her character and why as an audience would we care?

Co-Sign on Tastee, Morello and Caputo. In addition Poussey. I think these characters are mainstays for the series.

I imagine the way they keep the show fresh will be by introducing new characters and having back stories for them too. Though there are quite a few regulars from seasons 1 and 2 whose back stories have not been shown yet and we'll likely see in season three.

Caputo wants a go at running the prison, i guess this will play out over season three. How much can he blame on Fig for misappropriating funds? As I said earlier in the post it really would make a fab storyline if Fig crossed over and became an inmate.

But a lot of 2nd Seasons aren't better than the first.

I think it would help with the writing if they knew there'd only be 4-5 seasons. That way they would be able to take their time creating complete story arcs. But the way things are going, there's probably going to be new prisoners, new stories, repeat.

I also didn't like Suzanne/Crazy Eyes' story this season. In season one I really felt like she was an x factor. Nobody knew what she was going to do. Here, it seemed like they didn't know what to do with her, so they made her the enforcer. I know there's more to her story and maybe that will come in season three, but she seemed like an afterthought in season 2.

Saying that the show needs an end point implies that there's some kind of goal or accomplishment that has to happen to the characters in order for us to care about what's going on, and I'm not sure that's what's going on here.

What we have to me is a series of stories about the humanity of women who have been placed into a situation where humanity is fragile, which means we see a lot of character studies and explorations of human behavior, as opposed to a "plot" that has machinations and beats leading us to root for... whatever the "end point" would be (escape? release?).

And yes, I know that there are story arcs, however they're quite minuscule overall, like the ongoing pregnancy arc with Bennett and Daya, and Alex and Piper. The Vee-Red "arc" as it was was really nothing more than an exploration of the two characters which ultimately led to nothing more than a truce. I'm pretty sure there was an expectation that season 2 would continue with the beef between Piper and Pennsatucky from season 1 but instead it just sorta floated away with their perfunctory hug and it was never really brought up again.

I also disagree about the point regarding Crazy Eyes. The writers had plenty of leeway with her simply because they never established how independent she was or wasn't in season 1. Which is why they gave one of the first season 2 episodes to her backstory and how her behavior then led her to looking up to someone like Vee, who most resembled her mother, or at least her ideal mother. It was a smart move which set up the fact that she was so closely aligned with Vee and was willing to be her "protector." In this case, it's less about the end result of Crazy Eyes being a "protector" than it is understanding what leads that character to become a protector for someone who clearly does not have her best interests in mind.

i was tired of Vee before the middle of the season...she was such a manipulator it seemed crazy that anyone fell for her shit...

i don't care about Piper's family AT ALL...i didn't really mind the story of her ex and bf hooking up, but it wasn't necessary and in retrospect, i would have rather seen more of the ladies in orange

i kinda wanted more Daya, Gloria, and Aleida instead of ANY of the Alex backstory/ stuff with people not at the prison

Rosa's story was awesome....i think that was easily one of the best things about this season...i liked that almost everytime she was involved in a getaway someone died...everything about her story is what makes this show awesome...

...Tastee and Black Cindy's stories were great, and one could clearly see how they were gonna eventually end up in prison, but i thought it was dope how they contrasted that with P's story...

Caputo is is hilarious to me...and the "gay edge" comment never came to mind til i heard it...not even two days on the job and they have to prison breaks...him getting the bj was probably all worth it though LOL....i hate he fired ole girl, hope she'll be back next season....

oh yeah, Boo selling her people out cause she felt she didn't get enough respect was wack....there was no real upside to selling Red out...

...one thing i loved about this season is how unimportant they showed us Piper's problems were compared to her contemporaries...i didn't care at all about her personal life, other than her grandmother dying, cause well..that's just messed up... i hope she makes it less about her next season...

Soso was a pretty great addition, as was bringing out the cuter side of Pensatucky and letting her old crew strut without her....them trying to tell ole girl she stank was hilarious....

i wanna feel bad for Healy, but then he goes and does something shady cause he's in a bad mood that day...


Daya ain't said it yet, but she likes pornstache...he does things she wishes ole boy would do...

Maybe not as much as S1, but quite a bit. I find this show incredibly 'watchable' which is kind of a backhanded compliment I suppose - it's just nearly mindless, fun viewing with great characters.

Fig had to go. Proper send off by Caputo too.

I wish Red had done Vee but what can you do. I'm glad Red isn't dead.

The first episode was great - loved the departure. But is that how far Lori Petty has fallen? She was great I thought.

Overall - really fun season and I cant wait to see next year.

there was a ton of eye candy this season though. overall a good season, the show has always had some over-the-top stuff to it so i wasn't tripping. Vee was def the mad scientist villain everybody is complaining about but the actress did such a great job portraying her that it was fun to watch. she somehow managed to fool me on occasion when she was playing the nice Vee to game people which is impressive. all of the back stories were fun to watch as well. the only things i could have done without is the whole Diaz pregnancy/love story and the Polly and Larry hookup. that was corny although i'm glad they didn't make it too much of a focus and build a ton of tension around them. once they hooked up they hooked up which was kinda nice...hopefully we're done with that for a while now.
