"A Dame to Kill For" is pretty much straight-up film noir, and is the most straight-forward of the Sin City stories. I'll give it it's day in court though.

Not a must see now that the cgi'd stylized noirish novelty is gone

Eva Green's clothes are gone a lot too but overall the flick is still pretty doo doo

On the bright side Powers Boothe probably hasn't been this bad (as in good) since Deadwood

She put 300 sequel on her back and quiet has kept has been killing her role in genre films.

I figure even if it sucks, its going to be entertaining watching her ham it up to pure perfection.

Making her a focal point of the film (as an actress tho, Alba's still much better eyecandy) would be a wise choice.

On some white trash, family tree doesn't fork type shit.

She looks extremely off-putting to me in general, but especially in this. I'm not watching *for* her looks, buuuuuut that odd look is so damn hard for me to ignore. There's a few actors that do that to me. Something about the visual of her, Ann Hathaway, Maggie Gyllenhal, and Rene Zellweger just doesn't sit right with me.

It's not limited to actresses, of course. Rob Schnieder, DJ Qualls, and Gary Busey are all equally off putting.

Agreed, but the visuals of this are just so pronounced it's going to be hard for me to get past it.

Liked A Dame to Kill For mostly for Eva Green. I still don't understand why they didn't get Clive Owen to come in and do a day's worth of work after the transformation cause Josh Brolin looked awful. And trust me when I say ADTKF is one of my favorite Sin City stories. Just Another Saturday Night opened the movie and was dope. The new story with JGL I enjoyed up until the ending which made the whole story stupid and had me and others scratching my head on why that didn't happen earlier. That whole story was pointless. And the new Nancy story was trash.

3D was good.

Rent this shit y'all.

In an hour 40 movie.

Structure's a mess. Dialogue is awful.

You get Eva Green nudity and Stacy Keach as a big slug man for like two seconds. That's about it in terms of quality.

In response to Reply # 0

The only slight disappointment was JGL's segment, which seemed a bit...pointless? It was the one story that didn't seem to go anywhere.

Otherwise, it was good. About as good as the first. The dude they got to replace the big dude was good (although I didn't get how he was shot up in this movie but is still around in the earlier movie, which seemed to take place after the events of this one).

I mean, the same problems with the last movie are here. I can see how it can be seen as kind of sexist bordering on misogynist. And the dialogue is all crime noir stuff that somehow works in comics but comes off as hella corny on the big screen.

I enjoyed it, but you could say the biggest problem was that there didn't seem to be much of a reason for this to be made sooo many years after the first one. It would have been a worthy follow up if it was made within a couple years of the first (and with 100% of the original cast).

But I think years from now, when nobody cares about that, back-to-back I think they'll age well together.

In response to Reply # 50

Prequels: I don't care how characters got the way that they are when I first encountered them.

Sequels: the characters need something emotionally investing to do; they can't just show up and have us love them solely because we liked the first.

I don't care how Dwight got to Old Town or Marv got his coat or homeboy got his glass eye. So all the prequel stuff did zippy for me.

The sequel stuff primarily follows JGL on a pointless side story for at least 20 minutes of run time. The only character we care about is Marv, as Alba can't really act as Nancy and Willis seems mostly embarrassed to re-appear. But Marv doesn't really have a story like he did in the first one-- he's just there.

Man, I didn't care for this movie. The more I talk about it... sigh.

I went with a "Sin City" fanatic (the comic as well as the first film) and he had all kinds of borderline nitpicky complaints. If you want to see an action movie with heavy sexual overtones, here it is. I thought Old Town was captured spot on. Much blood was splattered. Femme fatales got their fatal on. I turned my brain off and dug it like I would an 80s action flick (Commando, et al).

Peace,

It wasn't as good as the first one is. But some of these complaints...
Dialogue? Did ya'll even see the first one -- the dialogue was terrible there too, but it's comic book dialogue not Tarantino.

I wasn't really sure how Allstate guy apparently dies in this one and is alive later in the first one. But as someone who hasn't read the books it was cool that there are connections between he, Dwight, and Marv.

Dwight was one of my favs in the first one, and Josh Brolin didn't play him as well as Clive Owen, to me.

It lacked something the original had... but it was okay.

Michael Clark Duncan's (Gold eye guy) story in this one is a prequel. And he seems to die. But he's alive and well in Sin City (the original) which takes place later.
