Wasn't expecting much after the commercials either. It's a little long for a comedy, and gets a little cameo-heavy at one point, but other than that it's great. Actually sticks to a story for the most part too.

I liked this one better personally and I didn't mind the cameos, but it was a little long like stated above. The story was better this time around and didn't feel like a scattershot of sketches. *edit* Brick's love story felt forced. It seemed like they added that as an after thought because Steve Carrell is a star now.

My favorite Anchorman thing is still the "Wake Up Ron Burgundy" film.

My audience ate this shit though. It's about to make a fucking grip.

There are momentary laughs, obviously, a few great cameos, and some killer one-liners (nothing truly classic that I left the theater quoting though).

But there's a lot that left me incredibly silent. The entire subplot with Meagan Good was... not good. The Brick romance subplot was brutally unfunny. The CNN satire was clever (and necessary), but it felt like totally different humor than the original and the one-liners being spouted throughout this one.

You can feel it working hard to try to work. Whereas the first one, plot be damned, was effortless and floated by on chemistry and a very free-form absurdity. This time, it feels tied to its story, so all of the set pieces feel injected, meticulously straining to try the maintain the energy of the first (this movie also feels a hell of a lot longer than the original).

So... yeah. It's not Caddyshack 2/Fletch 2 bad, because you'll mos def get some laughs... but it's another in a long line of Hollywood comedy sequels that really don't manage to sniff the success of the first.

Felt like they tried to make amends by forcing all the cameos at the end. It almost worked.

Didn't mind them trying something new w/ that news spin. The shots @ CNN & Fox were spot on...the nose maybe but I didn't care

Yep. The first one didn't have much of a story & didn't need one. Seems like they forced a story this time to make the sequel seem worthy. But then it still ends up recycling a lot of the same jokes from before.

Kinda how I felt as well. Happy it wasn't Hangover poo. I just wish Champ & Fantana were given more lines/time to shine. As much as everyone loves Ron & Brick, it's those other two that surprisingly floored me initially. Wish they would've done more w/ the Marsden rivalry as well.

Yes, it's not as good as the first (and it would have been damn near impossible to pull that off) but I found myself constantly smiling or laughing. The Brick love angle was prob the worst part of the movie and the Meagan Goode subplot was decent but not nearly on par w the rest of the film.

The movie kept me laughin and there are some hilarious scenes (highlighted when Ron returns to Veronica's house in Manhattan...I was in tears)...certainly worth watching, just a lot of fun.

You know who would have made the Meagan Good subplot sing with comedy? Not Meagan Good. You put Tracee Ellis Ross in that slot and you get legit laughs in spite of the subplot petering out...

I really liked the shots fired at Fox News (there were more zingers aimed at them than CNN, imo, and it's not surprising given the people who wrote it - seriously, do a search on Adam McKay and you'll see why him and Ferrell make the jokes they make and produce a Broadway show like the one they did on Dubya a few years back), and didn't care that they were obvious, probably because I can't stand anything Fox fucking News

I thought the cameos for the end news rumble were AWESOME, only problem was they created a huge stall time-wise from the time Ron's son was about to perform to when Ron finally showed up at the recital

A few good jokes (and more that surely will make themselves known upon multiple viewings) but ultimately there was TOO MUCH going on, which resulted in subplots (Meagan Good, James Marsden) falling by the wayside and talented performers like Kristen Wiig getting lost in the sauce...

That was a lot of storylines.

The last rumble was funny but became drawn out. Way too drawn out.

I agree with Frank on this one. Nothing memorable about it but I remember laughing a lot.

i'm out.

The stuff with Steve and Kristen wasn't even painfully unfunny it was just strange

Ferrell had no chemistry with Megan and those jokes came off forced

i did laugh, but most of the time i was saying what the fuck is goin on

Go the tickets, popcorn, everything. About 20 minutes in someone starts smoking weed in the theater.

I had to leave - the place smelled like a walrus's cunt.

...and we all knew it was a forced movie going in, so i wasn't surprised at how many places it tried to go to make the movie better

...it was funny and i honestly think it had more heart than the first which i think is basically all jokes and a really thin story....

...the only truly memorable scene to me is when Ron meets Megan Good's family...dude had me bout to cry

otherwise, the jokes are funny but forced in most places and most fall pretty flat....

i honestly felt like Ron should have knocked up MG's character cause i woulda laughed at Ron's "baby mama" jokes and it kinda woulda been interesting...

...this movie spent so much time trying to go big that it wasted alot of time...glad i waited til the cheapo theater to see it...

absolutely perfect.
unlike everyone else i know, i didn't go too apeshit over the first Anchorman film. thought it was funny but i didn't lose my shit like i did with the sequel (surprisingly).
actually the lack of expectations (not 'low' cos i didnt care either way if i ever saw this flick or not) helped SO MUCH. everyones right in that theres a tighter story at work and everyones sticking to it, but i dug it.
like i said on FB, the movie felt like "Network" on LUDES.
it started off a bit slow but man did it build up into some SURREAL SHIT lol.
those ridiculously enormous explosions during the fight scenes for instance lol. Brick's "gun from the future" (and when he's asked how he got one, simply laughs hysterically in response). DOBY. the goofy adorableness of Ron's son. the ballad dedicated to Doby. Baxter banishing Doby to the sea. Baxter biting sumones arm during the slo mo car crash. basically anything to do with Doby, Baxter and Ron's kid (Walter, right?) was highlarious.
was thoroughly expecting it to be kinda lame and not that funny but so glad i was wrong.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=115145

The trailer for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues: Super-Sized R-Rated Version is here and you can check it out in the player below, courtesy of iTunes Movie Trailers. What's more, below that is a clip (via Break.com) showcasing a new scene from the surprise theatrical release, hitting the big screen for one week only beginning February 28!

Rumors of a big screen return for Anchorman 2 began last fall when ComingSoon.net visited writer/director Adam McKay and editor Brent White in the sequel's editing bay. They offered up their hopes for a big screen release of a very different Anchorman 2 cut. It's full history begins, however, quite some time ago.

Back when the original Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was in post-production, McKay and White discovered that they had so many deleted scenes, alternate jokes and otherwise outtakes from the cast's often improvisational brand of humor that they were able to assemble a full "sequel" to Anchorman. Titled, Wake Up, Ron Burgundy, the feature length film was, for years, only available in a "Best Buy" exclusive DVD set, and was later given a wide release as a blu-ray special feature.

"This time I came to the editing room and I went, 'Well, Brent, do we have a second movie?'" McKay told us. "Brent goes, 'Actually, you don't have a second movie, but you have a whole other movie with all-new jokes.' I go, 'What do you mean?' He goes, 'You can replace every single joke with a different one.' They're all quality alts... If you saw the movie and then they said, 'Hey, come back and see 'Anchorman 2' again with 240 new jokes, would you pay cash and go see the movie again? ...The advantage you get is that these jokes don't have to pass by an audience and you get some stranger jokes."

The good news for Anchorman fans is that this new cut apparently more than doubles down on McKay's original numerical figure and, as the trailer below boasts, it will feature exactly 763 brand new jokes!

TOO much plot and TOO grounded in self-awareness ("hey, here's a callback to the first movie!"), lol.

I figure a fucked up spliced movie with random jokes might improve the original cut; Anchorman's strength was how absurd it was yet was VERY true to the universe it built up...a modern update on "Airplane", hopefully this brings the ruckus.
