"Christopher Nolan's best film was on TV tonight"

Insomnia.

I've seen the original, so don't preach to me about that. I probably like it more.

But you're buggin if you don't think this remake is a good ass movie. Pacino on POINT, Robin on POINT, excellent script, nice cinematography.

This movie and Batman Begins are the only reasons Nolan's career isn't total poo-poo.

it was screened at my University during a visual arts course. and i was always staying up overnight back then cos i could, and cos i could go at least a couple days before things started getting weird.
SO, seeing it in THAT state, i kinda identified with Al's deteriorating mindstate throughout that film. & the location just helped magnify that feeling x10. performances were all tight. little to no speechifying. pretty much agree with u.

...is one of his greatest flicks. without over-analysing it, i thought it was the most emotionally-resonant film he ever made (in that, it wasnt so cold and procedural and speechy as the Batflicks eventually got to be). i know it certainly came off that way on my first viewing (@ IMAX), but then i saw it another 3 times after that and the minimal amount of speechafying we did get (via explanations of how inception works, which felt like it took up half the movie on the first go) gave way to Cobb's epic struggle and his crazy emotional mindstate.

i really do think its still a kickass moofie. would have no problem making it an interchangeable option for the #1 spot.

TDKR tho? i wish it didnt exist to be honest, but its always gonna be his worst film.

and all the long-winded explanations were a perfect distraction (almost trolling, really) from the only necessary rule. everybody arguing about how many dream levels you can sink into and whatnot...when it doesn't even matter.

I wanna see it, but I'm so on the fence with Nolan as a storyteller (I think he has a lot of talent as a director, I just feel he'd be better served directing something somebody else wrote not named his brother. And I say that as THE PRESTIGE being one of my favorite films of all time). Can you sell it?

with the caveat that I REALLY enjoyed it until the 3rd act. Similar to Inception I loved the concept and visuals but it fell apart under it's own weight to me. The heavy gravity world is one of my favorite strange planet scenes and the rush to get back because time was distorted kept me invested but the ending sucked the life out of it for me. I was cackling at McConaughey pushing books and shit.

Pacino carries the film and does a good job of portraying a man slowly unraveling.

My problem still with the movie is that Robin Williams' character shifts from a complex villain to a pretty typical antagonist in the last half hour or so. In particular when the climax just turns into a typical action thriller I was disappointed.

I feel like his other films throw you curveballs, but this one ended up being pretty straightforward.
